NICTD action on 11th street in Michigan City, Indiana. This is a relatively unique operation with a heavy rail train running down the middle of the street.
The IC/Metra Electric has 160 stainless steel Highliner commuter cars that are fairly identical to those on the South Shore. Both sets of cars are made by a Japanese rail car builder if I'm not mistaken. And since they both run on the Metra mainline into downtown Chicago and utilize 1500 volts d.c. to operate, in emergencies both sets can M.U. with each others equipment.
My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🛤🚊🚂🚃🚄🚅🚇🚈🚉🚝🚞🚋 they're one of his favorite things in the whole world 🌎! He finds those electric bi level cars very interesting and thinks they are highly underrated rail transportation vehicles and that the part of the Virginian Railroad that use to be electrified should be "reelectrified" and the departments of transportation should run these on it and the part of the Milwaukee Road Pacific Extension that was electrified as well.
I think newer, and I don't know. I'm guessing Wikipedia or somewhere online would have a roster. The double deckers are impressive going down the street!
The station shelter is off to the side, but yeah, the platform is in the middle of the street. It's the only street running commuter service in the US so it's really cool to see. I believe they are bypassing that section in a few years so it will be history.

@@woodalexander ok I looked it up the single levels were built in the 80’s 90’s and 2001 and the double decker called highliners were built in 2009
