      The only thing I would add Brian would be that the reason why the sort of feasting which you have just described seems to some as not really a feast at all is probably something to do with our lack of rigour with our fasts.
      If we fast properly, then indulging in good food whilst still evading gluttony will be all the more enjoyable. And will feel more like a feast.
      God bless you for the work you are doing. Don't ever stop. Merry Christmas!

    The Catholic Faith is not a religion of just fasting and denial . Its important to Feast and Fast in equal measure . There are times we should enjoy ourselves and just rejoice in the life God has given us and in the knowledge that He is Born and is our Salvation

      I raised 175k and Maria Luisa Clare is to be thanked. I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in dept then told me about her and how to change my life through her. Maria L. Clare is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note!:: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!!

    Brian. Have you considered perhaps that what you describe amounts to no more than a wrestling with the measurement problem and a sign of the times? Everything tends to lean into self-consciousness. The labour of attenuation. Uncomfortable, awkward, and mortifying. A default state reflecting the withdrawal of the Holy Ghost from the world and His withholding from even the faithful, as chastisement.
    Doesn't lend itself well to feasting,
    and yet we must, in gratitude and charity.

  • @christophersnaith6987
    @christophersnaith6987 День назад

    Gluttony is the inordinate attachment to food. This can be expressed in a number of ways, including over eating, preferring to eat only a certain quality of food, not waiting until meal time to eat, eating too quickly, and, also, eating too little.
    So we see that fasting (eating too little, or even eating only a low quality of food) might be considered a form of gluttony, IF we don't have our distinctions correct. And likewise of feasting.
    With the vice of gluttony, there's a certain "out of control-ness" to it. You can't but help to eat too much, or you just can't wait for supper time, you're so hungry, or the food's so good, etc. This is because in our fallen state, we have antecedent pleasure, which is a delight we take in the created good before we receive or possess it. This creates an inordinate desire in us, which leads to taking an action based upon our emotional desire for the thing, rather than the rational desire for it.
    All of our actions should be rationally based, not emotionally based. Thus, if we fast, we should not do so out of revulsion for our fatness, but out of love for God, a desire to complete His will with efficiency, a desire to maintain in health the body that He had given you, to mortify the flesh in order to bring it under control and avoid sin, and in order to prepare for some great event in the liturgical cycle.
    Likewise, when we feast, we may eat more than we ordinarily wouldn't (so long as it's not harmful to your health--so, within reason), we may snack on treats throughout the day, we may eat higher quality foods that we otherwise wouldn't, etc., so long as we're not doing it out of excessive love for the created good, but out of love for God, to celebrate His generous Providence, His divine mercy, and to remind ourselves of the glory and delights that God has prepared for those who love Him.

    2 Timothy 1:8 KJV "Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our LORD, nor of me HIS prisoner: but be partaker of the afflictions of the Gospel according to the power of GOD; 9 WHO HAS SAVED US AND CALLED US with a Holy calling, NOT ACCORDING TO OUR WORKS BUT ACCORDING TO HIS OWN PURPOSE AND GRACE which was given us in CHRIST JESUS before the world began 10 but is now made manifest by the appearing of our SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, Who has abolished death, and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel"

    • @BrewMeister27
      @BrewMeister27 4 часа назад

      Partaking in seasons of feasting/fasting doesn't mean our actions produce our own salvation (which you seem to be implying). We are simply orienting ourselves to receive the graces that God desires to give us. And if we use Christmas as an occasion to indulge in gluttony and drunkenness, our behavior will reject the gift of salvation that Christ has offered us. Our works cannot merit salvation, but they can reject it.

    Every time I open my RUclips feed, it’s nothing but angry or annoyed Catholic influencers in the thumbnails, like a youth group leader cosplaying as Sister Margaret Mary, glaring because I didn’t genuflect before hitting play. And why are all the influencers following the same trend as cable news or bickering comedy podcasts? They’re constantly fighting with one another. I catch myself clicking just to get my blood boiling before hitting the gym. Is this really what evangelization is about? Or have we turned sharing the faith into a spectator sport for online drama?
