Is Merciless really better than Linear Fusions for DPS? (Merciless Buff Testing)

- Merciless has recently been getting more popular as a DPS option, especially when it topped the rankings in Aztecross's damage testing video. In this video I test to see if Merciless is actually a top contender for DPS or not.
Thanks for Watching!

The beauty of merciless is that it's a special weapon, so you can still use the stuff mentioned in this video for damage and switch to merciless if you don't have enough heavy ammo by the time the next dps phase comes around
Yeah, people don't be realizing that it's ammo is so much easier to get
But then you have to not use Witherhoard.
@@JoelHernandez-tz3vk yeah but you can't use witherhoard if literally anyone else in your fireteam is
@@ammonbergevin5302 Which is... Deceptively rare.
@@JoelHernandez-tz3vk One of the most used weapons is deceptively rare?
This video was actually rather helpful in combination with the one from Aztecross, because yours has more specific/niche details that his DPS testing on Templar can't achieve. Merciless hits hard, shoots damn quick now, and is absolutely something that can hang near the dps numbers of Linears for a hot second, but it also runs out of ammo blazing fast and most boss damage phases aren't going to be close enough to you to see Merciless inside its optimal range. Though on the other side of the coin, it is a Special ammo weapon, able to hit with that much burst damage and not even need to crit. I can't imagine it finding a place in raid boss DPS strategies in Master modes, but as a fuck around and find out kind of weapon? I think it'll do more than enough to make things fun for people, especially in basic Strikes, being able to take your big target focused weapon and turn it into melting a fair chunk of a boss' health.
Merciless is probably a pretty good backup DPS once u run out of ammo
There's nothing "niche" about this video. This is the precise DPS data for the weapons in question. Both in a best case scenario sense and a realistic sense.
I cannot appreciate your effort enough.
That said, we need a new tribute hall like place.
The floating circles in the back of the enclave are a good starting point.
Its also important to note.... this is a special weapon, using special ammo, and not heavy ammo. And it is competitive with heavy ammo weapons until it runs out of ammo.
And lets be real; the more likely scenario with bait and switch is you miss a random bullet on one of your other weapons and fail to proc the perk because the game hates you. Or flinch.
Most direct and to the point vids while still being great and informing. Thank you you're amazing !
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your work, it really helps us
Bro I love ur DPS testings
Please we need more of this
Great job 👍
personally i think that merciless is for short damage phases like a dungeon bosses where you can just pour out damage in the limited duration available. we won't be able to do much against raid bosses because of the longer damage phase and less "effective ammo economy"
Right? This dude didnt mention that once. This video is basically worthless lol
I knew it was good, but this seems incredible for a special weapon. Definitely gonna keep mine infused now for a swap option when I'm out of heavy ammo. I bet it's really good in gambit too. Anyone who's not on anti-invader duty brings a rocket + Merciless.
Thank you for this
the good thing about merciless is you can pair it with lfr's or rockets and fill in dmg when your out of heavy
Its a pretty good champion melter as well, Id use it with cataclysmic bait and switch. Unload a clip of merciless shots first then proc bait and switch on cataclysmic.
This guy is the biggest Chad of giving us the best numbers, in the best way, with the best visuals, and not wasting our time. Thanks man
Merciless is really good for short dps phases, like Persys.
But it also shines in being a special weapon which is able to compete with linears.
If you really want to, you can just use the best of both worlds, by using Merciless and LFRs
combine it with fusion leg loader mod with auto loading lfr
Merciless is just in a weird spot because it's like a burst weapon but not. It might just be a perfect option to run as back up damage. Basically run double special. Witherhoard and a trace with linear. Once out of linear ammo and in between dos phases swap out witherhoard for another kinetic gl and the trace for merciless? Maybe?
So basically its REALLY good to pair along side these heavy options, as it can either serve as a back up damage option when your out of ammo or you can use it in short term damage phases sense it does similar damage in a shorter period of time
Once again all the relevant information packed into a short time window. This is why you're the best
If you dont have hothead what would be the next few rankings of legendary rockets in your opinion?
probably bump in the night, hezen vengeance, basically any adaptive or aggressive frame with a good reload/mag perk and damage perk.
@@PrelapseYT Alright thanks for the feedback! Your now my go to guy for the meta!
Hey idk if youll see this comment or not, but since your the best dps tester I can think of, could you do a video going over what you think the best dps options are right now?
so good content.
SO good content! Sad that nearly nobody else is able to analyse numbers and just throws around wrong or very limited scope information, especially the bigger content creators.
for me, i find alot of success pairing merciless with a bipod apex predator. it gives excellent dps for an extremely long period. paired with triple reserves you have 30 rounds of merciless and 18 rockets
Nice dude
Can you do a video explaining chill clip rockets and why people are freaking out over them? Or link one if you already have… I feel like I’ve seen one from you but I can’t remember.
Merciless stops me from using witherhoard and rockets like bump in the night are stasis which stasis supers kinda suck so you can’t feed into font of might so that leaves me back to cataclysmic being king. Hothead is good IF you have it but can’t be obtained currently.
i generate tons of special/heavy ammo and pick it up with my StL/ExPL Perses-D, Vulpecula, or Fel Taradiddle personally
Wanted to suggest a dps comparison between Touch of Malice w/ catalyst vs Hierarchy of Needs w/catalyst vs Outbreak perfected w/catalyst vs Revision zero w/ vorpal + fourth times
hey prelapse not sure if you're ever going to see this but would it be worth testing out revenant (bakris) dps with the following: first super then use demo vorpal bump in the night for 4 consecutive shots - so pop super to get font and charged, then rocket, bakris dodge, rocket, demo, rocket, shuriken reload, rocket AND then swapping to merciless and spamming it out for 15 seconds.
I'm guessing the graph dps would be really high at first, then dips a bit while pulling out merciless and shooting the first few shots, then jumps back up after conservative momentum is charged. I think it would do quite well but can't test it right now. This also has the advantage of conserving rocket ammo and special for merciless comes back faster anyway. Would be sick to test :)
Try recombination +vorpal seventh seraph revolver with lucky pants +anarchy.
Solo Spire with Bakris. Cool.
We need all precision based special weapons to be on merciless level
Can you dps test iza and roar of the bear swapping with demo and auto loading on a starfire warlock with two rockets shot for every iza shot? Compared to what linears can do rn.
Good video, accurate(unlike cross), and to the point.
Then what kind of weapon to use for dps phases with randomness?
Will you be DPS testing Retrofit Escapade? Curious what your own review stacks up compared to other content creators
Yes i am currently working on that video
@@PrelapseYT W
I'd like to see merciless compared for total damage and DPS against other special weapons, it'd be interesting to see it up against the likes of cloudstrike/other snipers and slug shotguns or 4th horseman
As well as which bosses this would be ideal against.
I'd assume all you're doing from the middle is just tickling Oryx and Warpriest.
And against which you're close enough that Lord of Wolves would overtake Merciless.
Persys looks like the kind of boss you'd use Merciless against due to the sheer inconsistency of landing precision shots. Assuming someone's already using the presumably more optimal Witherhoard+auto-loading/clown cartridge rocket.
@@JoelHernandez-tz3vk I didn't know Lord of Wolves would overtake Merciless in DPS, that'd be good to know. It is definitely a good choice against Persys, as most people I've run into have had issues with not having enough heavy by the time we get to DPS (just run aeons kek lmao) but special ammo is much more plentiful than heavy, so it'd definitely help with damage there
@@JoelHernandez-tz3vk Also, what'd you be pairing with an auto loading rocket using witherhoard? Wouldn't it be better to use fusion grenades if you've got witherhoard because Persys takes almost double damage from abilities?
@@ammonbergevin5302 actually not sure what it had but it was definitely a Witherhoard, Bump in the Night and Starfire Protocol for damage.
Edit: On a solo SotW run.
@@JoelHernandez-tz3vk yeah that's looking like a fat demolitionist roll right there, especially if they were throwing constant fusion grenades.
You’re one of the few RUclipsrs who doesn’t shitpost and hand out shitty advice and suggestions, thank you
Does cataclysmic have the highest total damage for the whole reserves
most of merciless damage comes from turning your entire reserve into diahrea, and the rest requires an enemy to survive until its time to damage
What are your thoughts about grand overture?
Seems solid but I don't know if it's worth to run over linears.
It's actually really good! But then even if it is slightly below linears now it's definitely going to be better than linears soon when linears get there inevitable nerf
It shines on shorter damage phases with missile preloading.
I think that alone makes me want to eventually get it. Just not sure if there's other legacy exotic weapons I should get first.
bump vorpal is 10% isn't it, wouldn't it be best to do the graphs with frenzy instead for the 15% buff?
Vorpal is still 15% on special so it's fine
Frenzy is better yea, it just takes more work to keep activated
the annoying thing is, you can test dps for more stuff. because the community, if someone with a good amount of fame doesn’t bring any out, barely anyone listens
Pog
idk, but could you check coldheart?
What if someone used Merciless and Cataclysmic.
Merciless, swap to grenade launcher then go to Cataclysmic for cleanup
whats the average damage phase for all the different boss/ mini boss fights in seconds?
im not sure,i'd ballpark it around 20-30 seconds
hey. What are u using to reload ur weapon with a stasis shuriken
is a stasis fragment that says "reload all weapons (including stowed) you are currently holding and gained increased handling for a short duration for those weapons when you hit an enemy with a charged melee ability" paraphasing here ofc but that's what it does. Edit: i forgot to mention that this does sadly have an invisible cooldown. I believe is roughly as long as the duration of the handling buff but i am not entirely sure. I typically only use it once with linears per dps phase . The only time i use it more than once is if i am memeing with say last word lucky pants or 4th horseman. In both of those situations i typically choose to dodge reload or swap to something else after the melee reload rather than try and use the melee again right after so i am not exactly sure what the cd is.
Wish it had cascade instead of impetus
doesn't Kali have an extra crit multiplier
could you test rerofit escapade with volatile rounds?
Yes i will be working on that soon
So can you explain what Aztecross does wrong in his testing? Just curious.
Aztecross does short damage phases, so you get only the first 10s for dps, or however long it takes for templar to wipe. Here, you get a full 30s, which is longer than most damage phases in the game, along with a graph that can show you how a weapon actually performs through that time
Aztec did a real world scenario that happens frequently. This video is a total ammo damage test which tells us basically nothing we didnt already know
@@mateominiati5256aztecross does more realistic testing not perfect damage scenarios
Aztecross takes one scenario of the the infinitely many ways a weapon could be used then tries to apply a blanket statement that says X has more DPS then Y; however, especially if they are close in DPS, this can easily be skewed by each weapon reloading at different times and/or other dps tanks. Most of the time, you can't really test one scenario and expect it to hold true throughout every scenario, so it's a easy way to get inaccurate results
@@gld_ow bruh he doesn’t have to calculate every possible scenario this guy doesn’t either
Everyone keep these numbers in your head when Lightfall hits and LFR's take a major nerf. Mercy is going to be 2nd meta for DPS behind Retrofit and volatile rounds.
Whats the suggested roll for bump in the night dps?
Field prep frenzy or auto loading frenzy. Replace frenzy with vorpal if u dont want to always pay attention to proccing frenzy. Demolitionist might also be good
Unfortunately they removed hot swapping for it
I like to run an auto-loading/chill clip Riptide along with a linear in most cases. Excellent ad clear, great for champs/mini-bosses, and can do at least decent backup DPS in a pinch. It's the 2nd best legendary weapon in the game behind Forbearance IMO.
What would be the numbers if you pair meciless with cataclysmic
Not as good as witherhoard, its long charge time will really lower your dps a lot.
@Prelapse but in a raid team you can only run 1 witherhord, so the rest on merciless?
Pog i see raidibotti
Pog i was noticed
Can we use effectively merciless with a rocket launcher ?
I think its stacks get removed when swapping weapons :(
@@PrelapseYT oh sad, why not sailspy pitchglass's voltshot ? like this we don't need to swap back to sailspy unless we are out of ammo on merciless.
I like the fact that your testing without a Well and 40 other players.
What psycho uses bump in the night with vorpal instead of chill clip
test legend of acrius bro
everyone who is a pve main knows that LFRs are still top dog its not that hard to figure out but the thing with merciless is that its a special weapon and can still be paired with an LFR to still pump out ridiculous damage no matter what tbh this video was pointless
glad you debunked that one
sussy
Eyo, share this video to everyone. Merciless isn’t the shit.
You do know that you can pause for breath in between sentences right? You don’t need to just rattle it off in one long unbroken monotone blast
I know right? Like geez slow down
@@ThePackman627 slowdown the video then :D
I'm sorry, but who are you again?
his name is prelapse
The way Aztecross tests is “quick and dirty” because it’s real world testing.
It is the closest thing to what we would get in a normal situation.
Aztecross' testing is hardly "real world" since never tests actual builds or weapon combinations. He just shoots the gun which is not "real world" damage. There's no Wolfpack rockets, no starfire grenade spam, HOIL Titan, Izanagi swapping etc... His dmg tests just aren't good...
@@Helix8430 You don’t watch much Aztecross do you…..
I would love it if you could time stamp where he tested the damage of what I listed in his damage testing video
@@jasonbisdead bruh, where in the last video did he use other sources of damage
