xitah7 I think she’s made the most improvement of all of them. I remember watching them on the sing-off and thinking she was the weakest link. Now her voice is amazing.
Yes! I'm a choir director who is also a very empathic person. When I was in college we would listen to the other singers in our voice studio and offer critique, suggestions, and advice. As I practiced and grew in my technique I began to be able to physically feel where tension was in other singers bodies just by listening/ watching them sing. I still use this when I am teaching teenagers how to sing. It appears he has this skill as well. There are several singers I just can't listen to because they have so much tension... usually in their jaw.
Scott's range is even bigger. He goes a minior third higher than mitch in falsetto (c6 vs a5) and can sing much lower... All the way down to a c2 c#2. Mitch has sang down to an f2 before but it's been in joke videos where tone doeant matter. To be fair the c6 Scott but was in a joke video too but he's sang the a5 note that mitch does a lot too. Mitch is awesome but let's give Scott credit for having the biggest range.
@@chrispavlich9656 sure, but if you mention someone in the same groups range as being extraordinary it would make sense to mention another singer's range. if you notice i didn't say that one thing was better than the other...i'm just stating facts.
As I watch more and more of your videos, I can actually start to hear differences in voices as you explain things. You're one of the few voice teachers who can explain things simply for everyone to understand cause I know NOTHING about voice but you're awesome!
Ditto. I know very little about music or about voice, but you've managed to demystify a lot of how singing happens and where the sound's coming from (or should be coming from).
I cannot begin to say how happy I am to hear someone talk about Kristen. Everyone always focuses just on Mitch -- not that I can completely blame them because his range and control is out of this world, but it's so great to see her recognized for having a great voice too. As usual your reactions are great. I always feel like I come away learning something or reinforcing some new bit of knowledge.
Yeah her voice is just...wow. Then again ALL of them are, but ive always had a weak spot for female vocals. probably 70% of the music i listen to is female fronted. That isnt to say there arnt a TON of male fronted groups i love, but i do find myself drawn to female vocals more. That said the whole group is just..insane. They have covered SO many songs i dont like that i LOVE when they do. No joke my least favorite song of all time is Hallelujah. The original, or ANY cover is just horrid to me. I want to plug myself so i dont have to hear that song ever again...then they cover it. Im like well...theres only like 2 songs they have ever released i didnt like...might as well give it a try....and just holy shit. It literally brings tears to my eyes every time i listen to it there is so much beauty in it. That said....Rather be is just MMMMMMMMMM her voice throughout that whole song is to die for.
Kirstin--not Kristen. (Sorry, but her name gets butchered so often by so many people. Her first name rhymes with Thurston, not Tristan.) And you are right, Kirstin does not get enough credit for some of her performances.
caitidid I totally agree they are all so good I think Mitch is such a new sound for people. Her talent and effortlessness is wonderful and fascinating to watch.
Kirstin is the dark horse champion of Pentatonix, she's so smooth and blends so well and so effortlessly that what she's doing doesn't _seem_ as flashy as Scott and Mitch, but she's always on key, always melded, always perfect tone, excelling at backup vocals (which itself is an amazingly hard separate singing talent) but with an amazing voice in her own right. If you took her out of the mix the harmony vocals wouldn't hold together as they do - but I guess that's the point of any acapella group! I think she doesn't sing lead as often because she's almost indispensable as the top note of the harmony structure (alto, mezzo, smack in the middle overall) and pulling her up to the melody (as with Avi and Kevin who have super-specialized roles in the mix) loses something from the overall "Pentatonix Sound". Scott and Mitch _can_ and _do_ sing her parts based on the arrangement when necessary, but it doesn't sound as "right".
When you were talking about her having an even singing voice and that there weren't many extremes in the vocal ranges, it made me realize that that's the nature of their performances. They have a broad vocal range covered by several different people so they don't have to ask any particular person to sing outside their comfortable range. I'm not saying they can't, but it probably makes for easier performances overall.
I heard that after they come up with arrangements, they decide who would be the best option for singing the solo parts and each of the other parts, which I think helps with that.
There isn't much choice when we talk about blending voices cause one shouldn't, in an acapella group, overpower the other. They do have more dynamics individually, but I find very well thought how they work on performances
Scott (the blonde) does tend to have his jaw forward a lot even when he talks so it's mostly just his natural movement. Avi (the deep one) isn't with the group anymore but there's a ton of music that he did with them over the years and when a song does call for him to take the lead what comes out is just incredible. Kevin (the beatboxer) has a really soft voice though he's usually busy keeping the steady beat going to round out the group's sound. Kirstin has an exceptional voice that she uses effortlessly. I don't think I've ever seen her really struggle with a song. She does tend to make a really cute kind of smirk when she's singing which always just makes me smile. Mitch has a really unique voice that is naturally high and he doesn't really struggle to use his either. He's done some really incredible parts in their covers and in their own original stuff. I haven't seen much that they've done with the guy that replaced Avi but they still sound great. One thing I really like about them is that they all bring something different to the table, they all get their moments to take over a song and shine, and they work really well to make all their voices come together withiut sounding disjointed. I'd like to see you check out some of their other performances and songs in the future!
I casually watched a few of your videos last night before I went to bed...Woke up and had to watch one more before work....And now I'm subbed. You are so informative and easy to watch. I never knew I wanted to know about air, muscle, and vowel. Also-best shirt ever.
I can't tell what's more impressive: listening to Mitch perform that high E at 10:05 and Sam replicating it a few seconds later, or hearing Sam's replication done so effortlessly and purely for the sake of demonstration. Either way, I am floored.
I have little interest in singing. I just love listening to an expert explain their craft. I don't understand most of the stuff you're talking about but it's very entertaining regardless.
That's why I am here. It is an extremely interesting subject. One that he is so passionate about. His channel also keeps introducing different artists I can listen to.
Honestly I sang a lot in chorus but never had actual voice lessons so I understand what he's talking about but how to apply it to my own singing evades me.
Did no one answer his question as to whether Mitch's voice is biological or something deliberate? Of course it's biological. Mitch was born as a fabulous unicorn.
is mitch transgender? not that it matters or that its really any of my business lol...but that would be a genetic benfit to a "man" natualy singing that high. i know mitch and scott are a thing. i am a major fan tho i dont follow them as closely as id like.
Hell Houndz Productions they aren’t actually a thing Mitch has a boyfriend he’s been dating for 8 months and he’s called Beau, but in other news what he does is deliberate with slight biological advantage and no he’s not transgender
scott's jaw is usually jutted like that even when he isn't singing, so I'm guessing its just a natural thing? I'm not too sure haha. Mitch is the one vocalist you liked a lot. His vocal range video is quite impressive, and I wouldn't mind if you were react to more pentatonix in the future.
It just so happens that I taught voice to Scott his freshman year while he, Mitch and Kirstie were at Martin high school, and I identified the vocal tension that the jutting out of his jaw caused. This is a choice that he made in developing his vocal style. I was teaching him classical vocal style, so that jaw tension was very evident, and effected the tone negatively, but if you are not diagnosing like I was, or like Sam is in this video, it's not as distracting. I think it's very effective for the R&B style that Scott does so well. BTW, Mitch is a true countertenor, his actual singing range is ridiculous! He has a super smooth break, so he can just float all over the place. These guys are so talented! That MTV gig is not even their best performance.
Your knowledge and passion is inspiring. So many comments from people who don’t typically have an interest for the subject matter but watching you is almost captivating.
@@hadassah6563 totally! So many good ones! I was thinking Scott hoyings mary did you know in that church aswell (one of my faves from solo them) but you can't unfortunately see him.
He gave Scott such a hard time... Dude is a beast can sing male bass notes all the way to falsetto higher than mitch! The really light voiced guy he liked.
@@johnnyjumbuck7795 actually he can, look up their range videos. scotts falsetto goes higher than mitches. mitch has gotten up to an a5 but scott goes up to a c6.
RIP English. I’m laughing so hard!!! Your recent videos have been amazing. The American Idol one shows what a kind person you are. When I was in 3rd grade, I performed in a talent show. After I sang, my chorus teacher told me that I had to realize that I wasn’t born to sing and should stick to singing in the car. Needless to say, I was mortified and never sang in public again. I would write songs after I began to play the alto sax, as I deeply desired to express myself musically. I wanted to feel it coming from my soul. I sadly relegated myself to what I thought was the truth. You have to be born with a fantastic voice and I had no chance of carrying a song anywhere but to the trash. After watching so many of your videos, hearing you say that anyone can sound decent with the right training, I cried. My daughter has been trying so hard to sing and I had actually told her that she just wasn’t born with a good voice for pop music. I feel terrible for saying it now that I know better. I just may try to restore her confidence and book a few lessons with you. Perhaps as a Christmas gift. Thank you for being so informative and changing the way I look at singing. Your content is top notch!
Oh dear. Your chorus teacher should NEVER have been teaching if they destroy young peoples passion like this ... You are WAY ahead of many other people, as you can play an instrument and thus have an understanding of rhythm and what sounds right and good. Please do yourself and your daughter a favor and book some lessons now if possible in any way - release your soul and enjoy singing, enjoy the music together with your girl.
Caramelia M you touched my heart so deeply! I’ve always looked back on that memory as one of the most humiliating situations I’ve ever been in. I’m so sorry to have perpetuated that fallacy with my daughter, but I have the chance to fix that! I am absolutely getting her some lessons. I can’t wait to see her joy! ❤️
You're very welcome. I can't stand when people lose confidence in themselves because someone else decided they're not good enough. I wish I could play an instrument, but I simply have a non-musical ear. Both my piano teacher (at age 5) and my music teacher in school told me I'm simply not made for music. I love to sing (and still do, very grateful for at-home-Karaoke with friends), but my own Dad told me "Daughter, I love you dearly. When you sing, the milk in the next cow goes sour." and I sadly have to agree ... but to tell someone who can play the alto sax, which is NOT an easy instrument, that they better never sing again, is pure madness. You have breath control, you haven an ear for the right notes, please start singing again, with your daughter. Shared music is a bond for life and who knows what the two of you can do together?
Caramelia M I’m so saddened that we’ve had similar experiences. I’m sorry that you had to feel that pain and humiliation. Nobody should ever crush a child’s dreams, even if they seem unattainable. I know our parents were trying to protect us, but they unknowingly missed the mark. After watching Sam so often, I believe that we all can improve! I got my daughter a keyboard so she can hear what individual notes sound like and give her a concept of octaves. I give her tips on breath control and hopefully I can set her up for a life of enjoying her voice. We always sing in the car together. I’m looking forward to getting her a few lessons. I too had my parents tell me that I wasn’t born to sing. I can’t wait to apply Sam’s advice and blow them away the next time we karaoke! I’m sure you can improve too! Let’s prove everyone wrong! Thank you for your kind words. You have truly touched my heart and I’ll never forget this. ❤️
Didn't Avi "break" the sound system at that performance? It's fan recorded but actually pretty high quality for being so. They were on fire that night, every song I've watched from it was among the best I've seen them do it.
I just recently found your channel, I'm not a singer at all and I don't understand music the way you do by any means but my god I have to say I'm completely fascinated with your breakdowns. Even while I'm not a musician whatsoever I found this extremely interesting and entertaining, really good stuff dude, hope your channel blows up.
YES! AHA... OMG... I can’t even tell you how many times I watched the one from I believe Japan, where Mitch is in all black! That was the best version for me!
live, Singapore, The Star Vista, dunno how many times I have suggested it to reactors, or how many reactors I have seen with their eyebrows at the ceiling while reacting to it...
I would be so happy if you did one for Michael Jackson. I would love to have more insight on his vocals especially when he started to shift towards a more raspy sound during the Bad era and on. People like to concentrate on his performance more, which is totally justified, but tend to forget he was known more for his vocal abilities when he was a kid.
Michael was known for his vocal abilities all through out his age. Not just when he was a kid. No one can match Michael's vocal range. It was truly unique. And he kept getting better and better through out the years.
I don't really know how I stumbled upon your videos, but I'm SO glad I did. Sam, I am not a singer (outside of goofing around in private), but I find listening to your knowledge and insights so so interesting! It really gives me even greater appreciation for music.Thank you for sharing your clear and incredible expertise!!!
Gonna like the video mostly because I found it interesting seeing how a vocal coach has a certain level of knowledge regarding how our temporomandibular joints (the jaw) works. He got it right, he just doesn't know the correct medical terminology for it but its interesting to see how invested he is in his craft for him to be able to explain joint movement in his own words and for it to line up physiologically as well.
I never gave a sh*t about this kind of stuff. Stumbled upon your videos, don't even recall how, and now I can't stop watching them. Not only do I find you interesting, engaging and enjoyable, you're talent, skill, and obvious passion for the subject, has made me more passionate for the subject/content as well. Good job!
Since you like Mitch’s voice so much, I really think you should check out his Beyoncé melody or Evolution of lady Gaga melody with Scott on their channel superfruit
Anything Mitch sings is awesome. Aha, especially the one in Singapore was the best presentation. There r so many that they do that it is hard to pick out as they r all good.
you should react to pentatonix's cover of gold by kiiara! mitch (the one with purple hair) sings so effortlessly and flawlessly in it, and he sings the chorus with such ease! if you want to hear more of his voice, i'd definitely recommend this cover. i also wanna recommend superfruit's ANTI medley because it showcases both scott (the blond guy) and mitch's voices really well :)
I do enjoy your approach to each singer. I’ve noticed you don’t negatively critique the person as much as their technique, even offering advice. Very respectful.
I’m on day three of binging your videos (a few at a time), and I have to say bravo and congrats on the growth of your channel. Your professionalism, knowledge and overall class is admirable. Thank you for being kind and creative! Hoping good things for you and your channel! Maybe a draw my life or a video on your background in singing. You are a beautiful soul!
That's true. Then again, I have a tendency to raise my chin when I'm singing, but I also raise my chin in everyday life (it's just how I hold my head, not because I'm a snob XD). It would take in-person analysis, I think, to figure out if the jaw placement is a specific issue.
Scott just seemed really off in this performance.... Like maybe he's on drugs/drunk or something. And I'm not saying that to be funny, watch his eyes... 😞
I love how informative every video you post, you stop and explain in a manner that is easily understandable. And good sir your facial expressions are priceless I always look forward to them every video. As an aspiring singer this really helps me know little things to do. Again thank you so much and congrats on your channel growing so much!!!
Same! Though his natural voice when they sing Little Drummer Boy (incredible music video) melts your heart, but his bass is still incredible. I miss him in the group.
Can you pleaseeee react to Avi Kaplan "Change On The Rise"? It's sung by the bass guy in this video, who broke off from the group to chill out and do some solo work. He did the background basslines and percussion that you hear in the song, and I think you'd really really like it.
Agreed. Change on the Rise is my favorite song by Avi. He was so underutilized in Pentatonix because he is by far the best singer, maybe apart from Mitch.
He left for a couple reasons that had nothing to do with solo work. He had major anxiety, had a hard time keeping up with their crazy schedules, and missed his family and friends. He was also flying back and forth between home and shows because his mom had cancer and he wanted to stay close to home..
I would recommend the live acoustic work he is doing during the shelter in place. Any of them he has done from home would be great. To react to. His voice is glorious, especially as a solo bass. Its magic.
Does any other non singers actually try and sing what he's talking about too?.... or just me? I cant sing at aaaalll but He explains things so well that i want to try his advice
They say everyone can sing some just need more practice than others. Apparently I need a heck of a lot of practice because my 2 y/o nephew asks me to stop singing nursery rhymes with him lol
Yo Sam, I'm a music ed major and just wanted to say I love your vids. I'm glad you take time to pause and explain a bit of everything that's going on with clarity. You make it seem so easy to get your point across! Keep on keeping on, I hope to be at your level some day!
No he is not first of all if you listen to there music you will hear how powerful his voice is don't come for him because he sings so much fucking better than you shut the fuck up with'' he's honestly the weak link '' bull shit
Crystal even with you editing the comment this is hardly English. If you want to argue with his opinion at least provide a more compelling argument than attacking him personally.
Yasu Nagasena to add to what you were saying, if people want to argue so much over who has the better voice, then they need to site source material and examples. Otherwise it is simply an opinion, not fact. We can all hold to our personal opinions, but spouting them as truth is a huge mistake.
So happy that you're reacting to Pentatonix. They all have great voices and you definitely should check out more videos of them if you liked this performance.
I don't know much about singing, but you have a real gift for explaining things because I found it so easy to understand what you were saying. Please react to more pentatonix, such as Hallelujah, Bohemian Rhapsody, Rihanna Medley and Imagine. The guy with the high voice is Mitch, and his speaking voice is naturally quite high as well. He's my favourite, and him and Scott (the blonde guy) have their own channel called Superfruit, and you should react to some of the music on their channel such as Anti Medley, Beyonce Medley and their Frozen Medley, which features Kirstie (the girl in pentatonix).
React Brasil OMG you love a-ha, too??? I have loved a-ha since 1985 lol. I don't even know if we have an official fandom name (they didn't do that back then 😂😂).
Another great song that Pentatonix sings is Hallelujah, the Christmas one where they turn in a circle. They each get a turn singing. Beautifully done. My favorite.
"Her vocal chords are very happy right where they are" 😂😂😂😂 i'm dead 😂😂 Anyways, I really like your videos, I can get great advices from them too for my singing. Keep up the good work 😊
I'm definitely not saying you're wrong about Scott (the blond guy) and his jaw, but if you see him in person or see him talking--if you see photos of him in profile--you'll see that he's got a jaw on him all the time. Maybe he can't help it; maybe his natural bone structure interferes with his singing? I'd love so much to put him in a room with you and see if you can help him be even better. (Scott's one of the kindest people I've met, so the two of you ought to hit it off.)
If Scott got better he'd be dimash level.. He already has the biggest range in ptx singing a minior third higher than mitch in falsetto and a perfect fourth lower. He can sing bass.
I don’t know why most coaches talk about jaw movements.. it’s been scientifically proved that moving the jaw forward can even help the sound grow bigger. Scott does a great job with his jaw. It’s a characteristic of his.
@@babyswithrabies I love Scott so much, and he is amazing in some aspects, but he is NOwhere in the same universe as Dimash. No one is, really, when it comes to Dimash. But as good as Scott is, he’s not even as talented as Mitchy (and Scott will readily admit it). I actually think he was a better singer in high school and while on TSO. After PTX won, he tried to be more pop/R&B but lost a good deal of technique and tone. In past year or two, he’s been moving back toward sound vocal practices, but I still prefer his earlier singing overall.
Just recently found your videos and I love them. I'm a music major and plan on being a voice/choir teacher and the information is really helpful not only for my singing but my teaching as well.
The male vocalist with the naturally higher tone is Mitch Grassi. He is a Counter Tenor, and has a voice that naturally sounds like the same tone a woman's voice would sound like. If you were to close your eyes you couldn't tell that it was a man singing. That is his natural sound.. his Timbre. It's VERY pretty. If you watch some other things that they've sung you'll notice that Mitch is very skilled switching from different parts in his range with total control. He can go from chest voice to head voice back to chest back to Natural... just everywhere within his range in a blink with nothing suffering from such a big change being made. This song is obviously showing only a small part of his range, and like you said it's hard to tell if he has skill or if it's all natural from just this example. I am surprised you've never heard of him. A really amazing live performance by Mitch as The Soloist for the group would be '"Aha!" Live Singapore Star Vista' . Even long time fans were wowed with the theatricality and the absolute control and skill he displayed in his higher range. We honestly didn't know he could do that. Mitch can actually sing higher notes then he did in that performance , it was just delivered with so much power that I can literally feel the are pulsing when he goes totally silent and holds that. I think glass would have shattered from the vibrations he created. If you want to see something that has to do with his control switching between different parts of his voice, would recommend an earlier number he did called Defying Gravity. It was a ways back so he's made some differences and how he approaches his vocals but you get a very good idea of the control he has. That can be found on Superfruit which is Scott and Mitch from Pentatonix RUclips channel. They're best friends and decided to do a channel on their friendship and since they both like to have fun there have been a few musical skits that lean towards a lot of Comedy but the vocals are all serious. Mitch even takes the end of Defying Gravity up a notch. The blond vocalist has a VERY strong jawline. You see it immediately, and it naturally juts forward. The female, Kirstin Maldonado, has a beautiful voice and is so often overlooked. I'm glad you took note of her! I thoroughly enjoyed your reflections!
I would love to see more reacts to Pentatonix. They have inspired me to seek more of my vocal range, especially Avi Kaplan. I feel comfortable in his low range so far.
Glad to have found your channel - I’m learning something every day. I’ve been watching Pentatonix since before the we’re on NBC’s The Sing-Off. Avi, the bass, has since left the group to pursue other projects (I miss him). As for Scott, the blonde guy, he has a really large jutting jaw so I believe it’s just the way he’s built rather than him manipulating his jaw for sound.
Mitch and Kirstin together is by far the most beautiful sound my ears have ever heard. It's rare to hear them for more than a line or two, but when they do...it's magic.
Not sure how I came across your channel, but I’m glad I did. It’s very enjoyable and the sheer amount of knowledge you drop is outstanding. I love seeing someone enjoy what they do. That being said, I would like to see you react to Chris Colfer (spelling?) who played the character Kurt Hummel on Glee.
Andrea Merle Howard - same here! I got here from British News bloopers and EllenTube??? 😂😂 (Although I also don’t know how I got started on the British news...so there’s that, lol)
I know nothing about singing, but I’m currently binge watching all your videos. There’s just something about your knowledge & positivity that is polarizing!
Ohmygosh yes! Thank you for reacting to all my favorite vocalists!! Little mix, Mamamoo, and now Pentatonix! I would love to see you react to Superfruit next! It is sort of a subunit of Pentatonix from the two male vocalists, they're voices (in my opinion) are the best in the group, I would love to see you react to Superfruit- Anti (I just rewatched some of their videos and Scott~jaw boy~ does a lot less jaw movement in this one than in others so)
I think part of what makes someone so good and masterful in their field of knowledge, is knowing how to articulate the deeper, more abstract, and more subtle things about the logistics/mechanics of that said field. It's in these underlying details that our hearts and souls can emotionally participate and recognize *instantly*, yet our minds are slower to access how to interpret it. So when someone can shed a newer, brighter light on the interpretation of these details, we understand them better and a richer appreciation emerges...and we can all connect and share the joy of it. I used to write music and sing for years, and I haven't kept up with it out of fear of lack of skill. I just haven't known how to access it within myself. Listening to you speak so eloquently and yet to-the-heart of things has really inspired me to 'get back in the game'. Thank you. I will happily (and gratefully) support you.
Mitch, the guy you liked a lot, always teases with the girl (forgot her name) saying that his range is higher than hers. They had a back stage contest once that was very interesting, all caught on camera. The one who juts his jaw forward has had that habit all along. He may have a slight under bite to begin with but the singing shows an extreme. He, and Mitch and the girl went to school together and were in school choir together and decided to form a group when they graduated. They later brought in the bass singer who just left the group in 2017 or the end of 2016 which was a bummer. The young black man was a cello player, who played with them all the time and never sang. He started the beat boxing and when the bass player left they wanted another voice so he took voice lessons and began singing with the group. It was interesting to watch his confidence grow on stage. But they were bringing in bass singers on a temporary basis and none seem to have the range of the bass player here. He quit to be with his family more.
Actually, Kevin (the beatboxer) was getting voice lessons from Avi well before Avi left. It didn’t have anything to do with needing another voice. PTX would need one anyway because there needs to 5 people in the group. When Kevin sings, he’s more of a tenor I believe so his voice couldn’t fill out their sound like a bass can. His cello helped with bass in “Dancing On My Own” but then that’s not pure a capella.
I could watch you analyze every singer on the face of the planet. You’re so good. I’ve watched the pentatonic perform more times than I could count and I’ve never noticed the jaw jutting forward, and you caught it IMMEDIATELY. Dead. On. Please never stop making videos.
4:10 that’s how his voice is. It really is incredible how well he sings. You can really hear his voice in medleys by the duo superfruit which is the blond and the guy with the thin voice. They have done many medleys and also have an album together where his voice is displayed incredibly. He can also actually hit whistle register which may not be a shock when his singing voice is heard
Scott, blonde tall. Mitch, tallish, and his hair changes styles and colors often. So will say the one with high pitch voice. Love the songs from Superfruit.
You know what I like about your videos? You don’t just bash people’s singing. Your explanations are very technical and you can explain why they sing in certain ways which I appreciate. Thanks man. 👍🏻
I was waiting for Sam to re act . Asked him under his Beyonce analysis if he has done a reaction on Pentatonix. Thought it was an appropriate place to ask due to PTX love Beyonce.
Sam, First I have to say, I love that shirt! Also, you have some really great comments. I love comparing what I find to the original videos you are critiquing and then watching your critique to compare. As for the blonde, Scott, when I watched this video, this looked to me more like he was having an off day and manipulating his jaw to get the sound he wanted just to finish the performance. If you watch some of his other videos, you don't notice that nearly as much. I know some people tend to start to develop bad habits as they get fatigued just to accomplish the immediate need of finishing the piece. I think that may be what is happening here. Awesome video though. Really great.
Im 30 and was born severely hearing impaired (I wear hearing aids). I've learned the odds are that my hearing will be completely or nearly diminished in the next few decades. It's a little sobering. I only have a limited time to hear the songs this world has to offer. I thank you deeply for helping me and others appreciate and understand subtle nuances and tricks I've never noticed before. Music has always been special to me because it may just fade away forever. You are doing a a much needed public service by helping to school people on vocals in a relatable, charming way. So therefore, they, like I, will help spread the knowledge. Bravo.
Omfg my music teacher from years ago told me I jut my jaw while I sing and I haven't been able to fix it and honestly I thought I was the only one until I saw this video. I'm so glad you addressed it, I'll be using your suggestions to try to improve myself. I've been obsessed with your channel recently, you're awesome!!
@Roger J Matt is not Avi. They have different abilities, but Matt is extremely effective as a bass (as a percussive bass, he is possibly stronger than Avi, but I think that Avi's singing voice is better.) The group's arrangements have changed a bit since Avi left, but the interplay between Kevin and Matt is very strong and compelling (watch "New Rules x Are You That Somebody" or "Attention" for proof). Avi was able to produce overtone notes, which Matt cannot, but Matt can rap, which was not one of Avi's talents. Comparing the two men is unfair to both of them, and unconstructive to boot. Pentatonix continues to produce awesome music, and Avi is once again in a happy place emotionally. It's a win-win situation.
I don't give a damn if you think my comment was constructive or not. I followed PTX because of Avi. I'm sure the new guy is talented in his own way but I stand by what I said.
Pentatonix are extremely talented at arranging their covers and/or originals, I think that's part of what you discussed at the end. Some of the better recordings for analyzing their live performances would probably be their official music videos for the Evolution of Music/Beyonce/Rihanna, as they're filmed live but rehearsed and in a more relaxed studio type environment. Their cover of Gold - Kiiara is also a good one for that. You may also want to listen to their original song Run to You if you like smooth harmonies and effortless blending.
xScrillAx I believe his name is Ben Bram. I think Scott said he’s been with PTX since the Sing-Off. He also helped with the arrangements for Kevin’s solo work.
I would love to hear someone analyze their cover of Gold. It’s performed live in a studio setting and it’s just stunning. Also very few trained people have reacted to it.
I just came across your videos and I really love how you break everything down and explain what's happening with people's voices and sounds. You have a new subscriber. Kudos on a job well done!
Sam, you have the best reacts videos ever. I watched so many of them, but nobody is able to compete with you. It's so full of information and so professional. Thanks a lot! I would be happy to see more of Pentatonix from you. There is a lot of things to analyse !
IF YOU LIKE THIS BOY ARE YOU IN FOR A TREAT. Binge some Sup3rfruit BUT NOT WITHOUT A CAMERA! I could watch you go over Scott and Mitch's work for literal hours. They're really something. Look at some of their most watched duet covers and compilations. PLEASE.
I found your channel quite recently actually while watching Mitch imitate the squeak of a marker. I have to say I'm hooked. Very very honest and you don't attack the wrongs or mishaps of other and even give examples. Very educational thank you!
I love it that you liked Kirstin she doesn’t get enough credit
xitah7 I think she’s made the most improvement of all of them. I remember watching them on the sing-off and thinking she was the weakest link. Now her voice is amazing.
LJ B Yeah her Time at Broadway has improved her voice so much
She's true mezzo
Watching you move your jaw everytime Scott came on, you can really tell that you feel how they are singing !
Yeah....... I laughed every time.

Mitch has a very impressive range. That E was no where near the top of his range
Speaking that mitch can hit whistle notes easily as well
@@fablesstuff true...mitch imitating a squeaky marker pen gives me life!!

Its kirstin
Thank you for all this info. I'm so sad about Avi though 😞

scott's jaw is usually jutted like that even when he isn't singing, so I'm guessing its just a natural thing? I'm not too sure haha. Mitch is the one vocalist you liked a lot. His vocal range video is quite impressive, and I wouldn't mind if you were react to more pentatonix in the future.
kim yea he’s got a solid amount of underbite
That smile when he first heard Mitch, though
I think he uses it to add a little beef to his lower register singing. He almost always does it toward the end of a run.
It’s his anatomy.

What a horrible teacher! Everyone should sing! Music makes people happy!

Many of us would LOVE Sam to do some videos on Michael. The input on MJ would be so much fun from Sam.

Gonna like the video mostly because I found it interesting seeing how a vocal coach has a certain level of knowledge regarding how our temporomandibular joints (the jaw) works. He got it right, he just doesn't know the correct medical terminology for it but its interesting to see how invested he is in his craft for him to be able to explain joint movement in his own words and for it to line up physiologically as well.

you should react to pentatonix's cover of gold by kiiara! mitch (the one with purple hair) sings so effortlessly and flawlessly in it, and he sings the chorus with such ease! if you want to hear more of his voice, i'd definitely recommend this cover. i also wanna recommend superfruit's ANTI medley because it showcases both scott (the blond guy) and mitch's voices really well :)

That's true. Then again, I have a tendency to raise my chin when I'm singing, but I also raise my chin in everyday life (it's just how I hold my head, not because I'm a snob XD). It would take in-person analysis, I think, to figure out if the jaw placement is a specific issue.

Its magic.

She has the prettiest voice I've ever heard. Stevie Nicks is still my queen when it comes to female vocals...but damn. That is just so soothing.
Also most definitely hallelujah by pentatonix from a pentatonix christmas since it is live! STUNNING!!!
I love and watch your videos consistently...but I must say, I'm diggin your shirt. I see you fellow LOTR lover!
A Pentatonix fan lol
Mitch and Kirstin together is by far the most beautiful sound my ears have ever heard. It's rare to hear them for more than a line or two, but when they do...it's magic.
That boy got me shook with “Dirty Diana” tho, I had goosebumps.
Oh and I love it how Sam bites his lip when he’s enjoying the performance lol 😂
Not sure how I came across your channel, but I’m glad I did. It’s very enjoyable and the sheer amount of knowledge you drop is outstanding. I love seeing someone enjoy what they do.
That being said, I would like to see you react to Chris Colfer (spelling?) who played the character Kurt Hummel on Glee.
Or an analysis of Glee, in general. That would be interesting.
Andrea Merle Howard - same here! I got here from British News bloopers and EllenTube??? 😂😂
(Although I also don’t know how I got started on the British news...so there’s that, lol)
Man I had your video in my recommendation and i watched one and now I am hooked.
Please react to Pentatonix aha! In Singapore. You will be able to see some of the most amazing live vocals Mitch and the rest of the group has had.
For sure, best Aha, the one in Singapore.
If you wanna listen more to Mitch (the high voiced dude) search Mitch Grassi Graveyard. That's only him singing, boy what a voice!
It is sort of a subunit of Pentatonix from the two male vocalists, they're voices (in my opinion) are the best in the group, I would love to see you react to Superfruit- Anti
(I just rewatched some of their videos and Scott~jaw boy~ does a lot less jaw movement in this one than in others so)
The one with the thin voice is named Mitch and he's a part of it! You'll get to hear alot more of his voice on it's on
Omg YAS I would love to see him react to superfruit!!! I can’t believe he hasn’t heard pentatonix before though!
Well said!
My new favorite channel!!!! I’m absolutely obsessed!!
Elizabeth Hooper me too! I find him so engaging with his passion for singing
Me too! I should be catching zzz's but can't stop watching!
Kirstin, she's great!
Thanks man. 👍🏻
Haley Smith Yes! And I love that Sam doesn't fawn over the singers either, very objective - love these reactions!
I'm a simple person. I see Pentatonix and Sam Johnson in the same title and I smash the like button!
I was waiting for Sam to re act .
Asked him under his Beyonce analysis if he has done a reaction on Pentatonix.
Thought it was an appropriate place to ask due to PTX love Beyonce.
Sam,
First I have to say, I love that shirt!
I'm currently looking for that shirt online :)
These are the only reaction videos I will watch! Love how thorough and educational you are to what they are doing right or wrong.
the girl = kirstie, the blonde guy = scott, the guy with the high voice = mitch, the beatbox = kevin and the bass is avi.
mfreixiela And know Matt the bass
Uuugh I wasted no time. You’re one of my favs on RUclips.
cia s AGREED
I just found your video and I already love them!! Please react to the voice blind auditions!
Start with Christina Grimmie's blind audition. RIP Christina.
UHHHH THAT WOULD BE AMAZING
I miss Avi (their bass, shown here). He's not with the group anymore.
Shanyetta23 ~ Same. 😢
I haven't listened to PTX since Avi left. I don't think whoever they have now could possibly be as talented as Avi is.
Roger J that was a bit rude. There might have been a better way to phrase that I think.
I LOVE pentatonix and am also beinge watching all of your videos and have been the past couple nights.. 😂.
Same
Pentatonix are extremely talented at arranging their covers and/or originals, I think that's part of what you discussed at the end. Some of the better recordings for analyzing their live performances would probably be their official music videos for the Evolution of Music/Beyonce/Rihanna, as they're filmed live but rehearsed and in a more relaxed studio type environment. Their cover of Gold - Kiiara is also a good one for that. You may also want to listen to their original song Run to You if you like smooth harmonies and effortless blending.
do you know who arranges their covers? i agree that it's a very talented and good work.
xScrillAx I believe his name is Ben Bram. I think Scott said he’s been with PTX since the Sing-Off. He also helped with the arrangements for Kevin’s solo work.
I would love to hear someone analyze their cover of Gold. It’s performed live in a studio setting and it’s just stunning. Also very few trained people have reacted to it.
I love listening to you talk. It’s been a couple years since I’ve taken voice lessons, but you’re reminding me of training i had forgotten
I am so thankful to RUclips to have shown me your channel, your passion and love for music is so inspiring!
I just came across your videos and I really love how you break everything down and explain what's happening with people's voices and sounds. You have a new subscriber. Kudos on a job well done!
Alright, I've watched like 20 of your vids so it's high time I sub.
React to Hozier!! Haha.
Omg yes
@@HeyitsCrystal26 Yes-yes!
Ah, Sauron and the One Ring. The classic example of true friendship.
Sam, you have the best reacts videos ever. I watched so many of them, but nobody is able to compete with you. It's so full of information and so professional. Thanks a lot! I would be happy to see more of Pentatonix from you. There is a lot of things to analyse !
Obviously skilled at what he does, professional, kind AND adorable. What else could we wish for? A pleasure to watch.
REACT TO MORE PENTATONIX. Sorry, I'm a stan
PLEASE.
Shyenne Gitano YES.
And watch for bloopers at the end of most them.
Mitch has insane range. Do just a Mitch reaction vid
I found your channel quite recently actually while watching Mitch imitate the squeak of a marker. I have to say I'm hooked. Very very honest and you don't attack the wrongs or mishaps of other and even give examples. Very educational thank you!
Wow, this is captivating! Their voices are incredible, the female lead especially!
