This seems like a great alternative for someone who has health issues and can't do a lot of strenuous raking. Raking is definitely hard work. Seems like a great tool, never heard of it before. Thanks for doing this video.
We were taught old school to leave them on the lawn for nutrients for the soil. But as you all know. This leads to abnormal amount of Thatch build up. Now you are killing your yard and feeding the weeds. I love my lawn sweeper. It picks up the neighbors sweet gum balls, twigs, and some peoples trash they toss out. But I do have a burn pit for all that. Thanks for your videos. Sam, your yard looks amazing, it's hard to believe what you started with till now. Thanks again.
Hey Kell, thanks alot for the kind words, really appreciate it. I have to say, I actually considered the lawn sweeper a luxury thing, but after 2 seasons with it I really like it, makes it so easy to keep the lawn clean. Don't get a lot of leaves but loads of pine needles. As you say, I saw several articles this year where they recommended to leave everything on the lawn for the sake of the nutrients, but thatch build up and it will make the soil more acidic, also if it piles up it will kill the grass under it, so I am having a hard time to see how they justify leaving everything on there. I will continue to sweep it away :) thanks again mate.
if it works it's neither stupid or a waste of money. I've enjoyed your channel over the past few months as I too am always on the lookout for an easier way to tackle lawn care. keep it up bud!
Had a similar machine back in the 1960’s. But with the amount of leaves we get here in the Northeast US, it would fill up every 10 feet. This guy’s lawn looked clean to me before he started. I do love the fact that it is manual and requires no fuel.
Hey Matthew, for sure, my lawn usually doesn't get that much leaves, I mostly get pine needles. Wanted to try next year to find somewhere where I really can show how it does when there is much more to clean up. But I agree, in those cases the bagger would have driven me nuts, it is waaaay too small.
If you had a cordless mower, you can use the mower to cut or as a vacuum cleaner. the problem with this tool is that it wont get down into ruts or unto the edges of bushes, but your lawn is like a snooker table! Kudos... Thats the lawn we all dream about 🙂 I've been raking a lawn today by hand and it is ball busting sweaty work. But it was also so uneven that I'd love to know if the gardena would even be able to pick anything up? Whereas the manual rake, bends and flex's to the shape as I push on it.. Would be amazing it it does, i'd get one in a heartbeat. I scarified a public lawn today and the amount of rubbish that came out all had to be raked by hand, as even the lawnmower was struggling to pick it up. Have you tried this thing on a really uneven lawn since making this video?
Hey mate, thanks, I think mine is too uneven actually, I would not mind if it was juuuust a bit more flat, never enough 😉 If you are using the Gardena on an uneven surface I don´t think it would work as well. Even on my lawn it misses some spots because it´s not 100% flat, you could work around that and adjust the height all of the time and run it over in different angles but that´s quite the hassle. If you are doing uneven lawns then I would stick to the manual rake or as you say, run over it with a normal mower that has lift, so you get everything. The Gardena is good, but it is definitely one of those tools you really don´t need unless you have extra cash burning holes in your pocket :)
Thank you Finally a video showing how it works on pavement not just lawn Would be good to show how to empty it in bags or whatever to dispose the pickings
Hey mate, thanks alot, glad you found it helpful. Good suggestion, completely forgot about it, I usually just empty it near the edge of my property, so it feels trivial to me, but may not be for others, so good point to actually show what to do with all that.
Hi there. Love your lawn. It's almost perfect. The sweeper on the other hand, yeah, it doesn't cut it for leaf pick-up. It cleaned your lawn, but it was pretty much clean as a whistle before you started. It picked up the pine needles and that's good. The container is so small. I'd have to stop every hundred feet to empty it. Thumbs down on the sweeper and thumbs up to you and your lawn. Cheers!
Hey Peter, thanks so much, appreciate it. I do agree that the container is too small, I have a lot of pine needles and two weeks ago I ran the collector and I had to empty that thing 3-4 times, just with pine needles, don't really get why they made it so small, as you say I don't have that much leaves, but I can imagine if you do you would have to stop and empty it all the time. Thanks again for the kind words and thanks for dropping by mate.
Okay - IKEA desk and IKEA shelves - I bought three queen sized beds for my house - drove an hour to pick them up - they would not fit up the stairs - so I used the chainsaw to cut out the floor between two floor joists! Sam, you need a chainsaw!
Hi Sam, Another great and enjoyable video mate, the build stories made me LOL! 😂 I have a petrol rotary mower which tends to pick up the majority of leaves and other debris, depending on how low I set it. On the scarifying though, I don't mind the raking afterwards as I enjoy the exercise to get the heart pumping and keep the bingo wings at bay! I have to say though my lawns aren't as big as your rear lawn but the raking is still time consuming. I've just invested in a battery powered leaf blower though to assist in gathering up the detritus and a set of leaf grabbers to pick it up to save all that bending over. Keep up the brilliant videos, I'm off to watch another 😁 Mick
Hey Mick, thanks! I honestly was thinking about getting a rotary mower to just pick up leaves and stuff, but then I came across this thing, works really well. I have tried it after scarifying and it does not work at all for that, the debris is just too heavy, so a normal mower would be better for that, so I might get one anyways or a leaf blower actually, anything but the normal rake 😁 Really glad you like the videos, makes my day mate!
I have that thing too and it's doing a great job of getting rid of the leaves which I have 10x what you have there. Definetely better than raking! As you said it does not collect 100% but close enough. You could use a rake for the left overs, that would not take long since there would be just a few leaves here and there.. but I don't do it since new ones are falling all the time so there's no point.
Yes, I saw that one browsing Amazon, I think that one is even better, since it has more width and a bigger bag, but unfortunately not available in Sweden. If it were, I may have gone for that one instead. Thanks for watching Richard, and thanks for the kind words, really means a lot :)
This lawn is beautiful but looks already clean. I'd like to see how the sweeper works on a lawn "COVERED" with leaves as in pretty much any New England state.
Hey, I agree, I would also like to try it on a lawn that is just full of leaves, never done that. my lawn usually gets covered mostly by pine needles, last week I emptied 3-4 bags of just pine needles from the lawn with the leaf collector. I am trying to find a leaf covered lawn to try it on, just haven't found one, at least not one where I know the people, don't want to be the weirdo with a camera asking random home owners :D
Just come across your channel Sam, keep up the good work. As a much older guy I have had my own gardens for 47 years(2 homes) I have been fully retired now for 13 years and obviously when I am not taking/collecting my lovely grandsons on the school run I have more time than younger busy parents to better look after my lawns. I have kept them neatly mowed etc, however I have never scarified, reseeded, top dressed and the rest, is it because I have been lazy or just bamboozled by watching far too many lawncare videos that can become very technical.Cheers from the UK.
Hey Mate, glad you found my channel and dropped a comment. I think you have your priorities just right, family always comes first :) I try not to get too technical about things, I really do think too many youtube videos just complicates things. As you say, you are keeping it to the basics and it works for you, if you would want to crank it up a notch you could add maybe top dress one year, scarifying another. No need to go nuts on the lawn, like myself or some others, you can have a decent lawn without doing all that, so good for you mate!
Way back in the late 1950's - early '60's we used those to "sweep up" the leaves! In fact, as a kid, we use to take turns sitting in the basket section and getting the leaves "swept" into our face! LOL So that's hardly a "new" item, just an old idea "recycled"!
Have used a lawn sweeper extensively. The results for this one seem substandard, actually. And that seems to do with that it uses a plastic comb, i.e. plastic teeth with gaps between them (like a rake), which is going to miss a lot, versus other sweepers, like mine (Agri-fab), which has brushes for more complete coverage. Also seems like it should be wider...but maybe that's just the European thing with their preference for tiny things.
Yeah, there you goI have a ZT mower & hitch up my Ohio Steel lawn sweeper. All I need to do is take my backpack leaf blower & get it all out in the open & 1-2-3❗I don't kill myself, got a lot of ground to cover. Those come in 2 basic sizes: 42" (22 cu. ft) & 50" (26 cu.). If you dump it @ the curb & the town scoops it up, you can't beat it.🏆🎰
Hey mate, not sure, can't really say if this one is better or worse than the ones with a brush, never tried one of those. Meanwhile this one actually works pretty well, I do agree about the width, not sure why they didn't make it wider or the bagger larger, just stupid if you ask me. But still it works for my small lawn. I think most lawns in europe are about this size, at least a majority of them, so maybe that's why they go for the smaller size, just a guess though.
I bought an inexpensive lawn sweeper for $130, because it was the only brand sold locally. It came with that comb-like design. I have to make a lot of passes to get all the leaves picked-up, and you have to set it to nearly drag on the ground to get adequate (at all) pickup for the small leaves we have. Dragging equates to a lot of effort to push. This device is better than raking, but I'm trading one kind of strain for another. I remember my parents (in the 1960's) having a sweeper that worked well and had brushes/bristles rather than this lousy plastic comb design. Plus the bag falls off intermittently from dragging on the ground! I'm going to investigate if that brush design is still manufactured.
Hey John, I agree, that would be the best way to not waste all that good stuff from the leaves, alas I don't have a mower that can mulch, I only have a manual reel mower. If I had another mower, I might have just done that.
I loved the building stories...I have been there with measurements Best line...I am here to build stuff not read aaaaahahahahahahahaha... Very charming and honest... I agree about raking!
You do know that is old school! They remodeled it however they had that type device way, way back in the late 1960s!!!! Yes, they used to be common in the USA!
Hey mate, yes I have been made aware of that :) But a lot of things are just recycled ideas in a new package or it may be trending again, same with clothes or music or movies. Very rarely does an original idea come up, but I still think it's useful, even now :)
I just seen a tip for a mod, so to limit/ Stop debris shooting out in front of the lawn sweeper ! Triple layer(for strength) Duct Tape, to the front / Bottom edge of the sweeper, about 2 or so inches wide ! It was done on a very similar sweeper, as they all look pretty much the same ! Seemed to work well ! Video should be found here on RUclips, under : " How To, with Doc " Hope that helps !
Hey mate, for sure, if you have a lot of leaves then I really wouldn't recommend this one, then you are better off blowing it or mulching it, would be way faster. Imagine emptying the tiny bag on this thing if you have A LOT of leaves, would drive you crazy. But for smaller lawns with less debris it works just fine. Thanks for watching Reverend :)
Hey mate, they sure should, actually thought about that too, I know the more expensive reel mowers come with a sweeper attachment, why not these home made cheaper dethatchers, doesn't seem it would be that expensive of an attachment to add to it. Good point mate.
Hey Mate, some have said the same thing, I might actually get a leaf blower and see for myself. I think it's pretty ok to push around, but then again I only compare it to raking manually, never owned or even used a leaf blower.
I don't know about this thing.... It definitely wouldn't work on a bigger yard with more leaves... Which means it's only realistic on a small yard, which also makes it easier to just rake it up or use a mulching/bagging capable mower... Which you definitely should consider investing in. The good news is your yard looks great, and it functions about 80%ish.
Hey Alex, for sure, if you have a bigger lawn then this thing would drive you crazy, mostly because of the small bagger, it's actually so stupid that it is made for picking up leaves but the bagger is super small. But for my yard which is small and I mostly get pine needles, it works great. Otherwise I agree it would be better to just mulch it.
I used to use a sweeper similar to this but the brushes went the same way as the wheels (over, down and flicked to the rear) where this one flicks the debris forward first. They are handy on small lawns/ paths and drives, but I get better results using a blower. Most of my lawns I work on I mow the leaves up mulching them but keeping blades high. This debris is collected and stored them used as leaf mulch. That said, your lawn looks 👍👍
Hey mate, many people said that a blower works great, never tried one to be honest, I don't even know a single person who has one haha, not that common in Sweden it seems, maybe I will borrow one an try it, see how it compares. Thanks for dropping by dude, appreciate it :)
haha that's how it starts! Just this ONE thing, next thing you know, the shed is full of gear and lawn care stuff! :) As long as you enjoy it, go for it mate! :)
Personally, I LOVE raking. I just came on here to say that. What's annoying about fresh air and free exercise in the great outdoors? Wear gloves and learn to meditate while raking!
hahaha great comment! I actually 100% agree with you, love being outdoors and especially in the lawn, it's just that raking and me don't go well together. I have actually even bought gloves with extra protection around those areas but still it chafes for some reason. Maybe I am doing it wrong :) My meditation is usually going around pulling weeds, I can get stuck doing it for hours, not sure why but it really is soothing for some reason :)
Thanks for sharing this Sam. Its super useful to see how effective it can be. I'm also looking to buy one, but I'm not sure if it would be able to pick up pine cones that are lying on the lawn as well?
Hey mate, thanks for dropping by. I have a lot of pine cones as well and as long as it hasn't really dug into the ground it does pick them up. But smaller ones that really quickly goes down under the grass it will not pick up. But all in all it does a great job and I really love how "tidy" the lawn looks after using it :)
Hey Richard, wow, that's a huge price difference, I almost don't think it's worth the price we have, for what it does, but 300 is crazy, hopefully the prices go down now that Gardena set up shop in NA.
Corners are fine as long as you don't have some kind of edging that gets in the way, I just put in some stone edges, which makes me have to manually rake the edges 🤦♂
Hey Paul, hmm not sure, never tried it, but I would imagine it would work as long as they are not pushed down into the lawn, if they are just laying loosely on the lawn it would probably go into the collector, but if they have been on there for a while and dug themselves in I think it would be hard.
Hey mate, probably it would be better but for a small lawn like mine, it seems a bit too much. Think this works fine on lawns this size, if you would have a bigger lawn, then for sure riding mower would be better.
Tom Flowers has a video on this platform showing the use of double sided tape and some rubber like material to stop the clippings being pushed out front of your taking machine while retaining the warranty. Titled something like: Gardena lawn sweeper made 99% efficient or near that.
For a level lawn with minimal leaves a sweeper is Ok but otherwise useless in my book. Takes up too much storage area for what it is worth. I had one for a couple season then sold it for like 1/4 what I paid for it. Not a big fan.
Yeah really is, that's why I placed this one in the luxury item list, really is too expensive over here, but if you really really don't like raking then its worth every penny :) But a really good purchase, you are going to love it, makes it so easy.
Hey mate, I actually tried it in the video where I kill off my lawn. But in short: the "combs" on the Gardena are just too weak to handle that amount of material unfortunately . You will need to rake off the worst by hand. If I were to get one for the purpose of cleanups after scarifying, then a more powerful one with a brush instead of these combs would be better I think.
I wish you showed in details the unboxing instead of the chatter, this way you could get more subscribers and more likes, I didn't know what was the purpose of the video, just wasted 15 minutes !!
Hey Margo, well there aren't really any details in the unboxing, just a couple of bars and screws, not much to show. I do like to keep it almost like a vlog and that's the style I like so if that doesn't suit you then you are welcome to check out other channels. best thing about videos, you don't have to watch them if you don't like them.
@@SamsLawn May be for you, it is easy, luck you but if you read the reviews most people complain about putting together, I was looking for unboxing video, and your video came in the top, and I was waiting to see how to put it together and got frustrated, but still don't understand the point of the video. In the future if I look for entertainment, I will watch your video, but for unboxing I will look else where, and by the way the company has sucky instruction also, not your fault :)
Ahhh now I understand what you mean. The point of the video was to review the product itself and see how well it actually picks up leaves, pine needles debris, does it work, pros & cons. It was never meant to be an unboxing video or how to assemble. In retrospect I definitely could have shown how to assemble it too, but since I just wanted to show how it works I never thought about the assembly, it was only meant to be a review video.
@@SamsLawn Thank you, comprehensive UNBOXING videos are so valuable and needed, most of us have hard time reading the instructions and someone like yourself who find it easy can give great unboxing videos, it took me 2 days to figure it out, and I actually cried from frustration, all fairness to you didn't put UNBOXING in the title, but this collector did not have any good video for unboxing and the company put some video show how well it work, thank you for your reply, and I am a subscriber now :)
@@m27238 I agree, most instructions are terrible, almost as if the companies never tried to follow them themselves. So from that perspective I should definitely have done the assembly part. I will try to remember that for the next product review :) By the way, if you ever come across something like that again, don't get frustrated, just send me a message and I can try to help as best as I can, always willing to help if I am able. Thanks a lot for the sub, appreciate it :)
Well, if I compare to the Gardena manual reel mower, it works 10 times better, but then again, that grass catcher is one of the worst ones I have seen. Otherwise it's pretty similar I would say, maybe the average mower works slightly better.
We get a lot of acorns too on our lawn, it will pick up the smaller ones that are on top of the grass. If they have been pushed down into the lawn then it won't. So I wouldn't say it's the best at picking them up unfortunately.
Hey Francesco, I was actually a bit worried about that too, but so far it does work, only if you haven't stepped on the leaves and really stuck them to the ground, but if they are wet and just laying on the grass, it will pick it up, no problem.
Hi Sam Greetings from Scotland. I have just found your channel. Have watched a few of your videos. I am impressed with your English. One question, with such a large lawn and seeing you have several lawn care tools how come you don't have a petrol or cordless lawn mower?. I have 3 mowers, an old Qualcast 35s classic petrol, an Allett Kensington 14k and a Mountfield HP414 petrol rotary mower as a backup and when the grass is too long for the cylinder mower. Looking forward to your next video.
Hey Ray, thanks alot for watching, really appreciate it. I kinda like the gardena push mower, I think a cylinder mower gives such a great cut. So I'm pretty much saving up for a power driven reel mower at some point, really want an Allet Kensington,. Before I got all into lawn care I just used the robomower. Btw, I love Scotland, I go every year, even got married near Fort William, I consider Scotland my second home :)
This is nothing new. My grandfather bought a leaf sweeper back in the 60's from Sears. When my mother died in 2011 the leaf sweeper was still in working order and I had used it in the fall to collect the leaves from the back yard of grandpa's old house.
Hey Matthew, a lot of people actually said the same thing, had no idea this was already an old "invention", but I guess most things are remakes or stuff starts to trend again. Good thing you are still using your old one, I also tend to use things as long as they run and work, don't see a need of changing things out just for the sake of changing :)
@@mikeo8890 when you step on them the dirt they popped up will cover the grass and it will die off underneath so it's always nice to just go over it with a rake. But we are into super nerd territory here, your lawn will be just fine if you don't do anything about it :D
Are these more for artificial grass! Like you i hate raking, but sometimes that's what you have to do. Fair play though and it does make the lawn look good. Keep up the good work.
Hey Dustin, sure that would be a way of doing it, especially if you could mulch it, that would be the best thing, get the nutrients back, but I don't own a regular mower, I only have a manual reel mower and it does pick up some of the leaves but not even close to getting all.
Hey, not sure actually, never tried it for cores. If I were to guess I would think you can get some of them out, but if the "rakes" get too many cores at once it might be too heavy. I will try it when I do core aeration, curious myself since getting all those "turds" off take forever :D
Hey John, probably could, but I imagine that it would be harder to get the leaves where you want them, or blowing up mulch from the beds, or even being able to blow away all the wet pine needles. But I've never tried it, think this is a great way and no power involved, also a good thing in my book.
I know these are designed around picking up leaves, grass, mulch, and small branches, but does anyone know if any kinds of sweepers are good with picking up larger items with more mass like aeration cores, acorns, rocks, bits of asphalt, etc?
Hey mate, good question, this particular one wouldn't be able to I think, it's just too weak, it struggled even taking upp debris after scarifying. But a sweeper with a brush might, that would be interesting to see actually.
Hey Donald, weird thing is that I do use gloves and i still get them, I even got gloves with extra protective fabric around that area and I still got them, must be doing it wrong :D
Thanks mate. I know I do talk a lot 😂 I try to think about it EVERY video I make and I always end up still talking too much, guess I am just a talker :)
No I have purchased 5acres in clare michigan my last home had 30 9" dia trunks maples oaks hickory a few walnuts we have leaves but I made wood area and blow or dump them in the woods and if I can use my snapper lawn mower I chop some up about 3'deep in my garden you want manicure lawn I cut mine with a triplex Locke reel mower maybe you should look for a gas powered parker walk behind sweeper or a towbehind one with a tractor then just blow away from the hard to reach and ride by and sweep or a vacuum trailer and suck them leaves up and shreds then up
Haha yeah I don't have that much leaves, at least not when I made the video, that's the problem with filming everything all the time, sometimes you have to do it early to be able to edit and do everything before the leaves have actually fallen down. But I do have alot of pine needles, just released a reel on IG showing that, i filled 3 full bags on the leaf collector just with pine needles.
Hey mate, not terrible at all actually, I would say it's way to expensive for what it does, but it does not destroy the grass, it actually works pretty well I would say.
@@SamsLawn From all the grass in the bag, it seems like it tears your grass. This is bad for it. The only scenario where I could see it being OK is if you raked with the lawn long, then mow after.
@@BigBrotherIsTooBig I mowed the lawn just before so that's just clippings that the godawfull grass catcher from the Gardena mower didn't catch. But I'm not here to change anyone's mind, it's just to give a review and my opinion, I can only say I haven't experienced it tearing any grass.
Hey Tim, actually was looking for one of those just before I got the leaf collector, they look pretty awesome, maybe I get one anyways, since I still do use the rake from time to time, and as you saw, it's time to replace it :) thanks for the tip!
Hey Paul, yeah if you are anything like me and hate raking and have a lot of pine needles, then it's really worth the money, at least if around that $100 mark or so.
I have two oak trees that are always dropping small twigs. Some of them get covered by grass over time. Would the sweeper or power rack be a better options for twigs that have settled between the grass? Thanks and I like 👍🏾 your content.
Hey John, if they are covered by grass and really stuck, you would need a power rake to get to those I would say. But if they are just on top then the sweeper would work just fine. Only thing is that the power rake will stress the grass and it's much much more aggressive compared to the sweeper.
This seems like a great alternative for someone who has health issues and can't do a lot of strenuous raking. Raking is definitely hard work. Seems like a great tool, never heard of it before. Thanks for doing this video.
Hey mate, 100% agree, it really does help a lot and make the work a lot easier, very good point! Thanks for dropping by mate

I will continue to sweep it away :)
thanks again mate.

Had a similar machine back in the 1960’s. But with the amount of leaves we get here in the Northeast US, it would fill up every 10 feet. This guy’s lawn looked clean to me before he started. I do love the fact that it is manual and requires no fuel.

@matthew jonesWhat is it w/this "no fuel" business❔ What do you cut your grass with, one of thosepush mowers w/spiral blades⁉
@@prestonweitersjr.9460 yes, where applicable. Less noise, less smoke, less smell, more exercise.
Great review. Purchased a Gardena leaf collector based on your review, thanks!
Awesome mate, hope you enjoy it as much as I am :)
I just mulch them up with my mower. Works great and with no problems ever.
Hey Terry, yeah I would say that's is the best way of doing it actually, to get the nutrients back, if only I had a mower that could do that :)
If you had a cordless mower, you can use the mower to cut or as a vacuum cleaner. the problem with this tool is that it wont get down into ruts or unto the edges of bushes, but your lawn is like a snooker table! Kudos... Thats the lawn we all dream about 🙂
I've been raking a lawn today by hand and it is ball busting sweaty work.
Hey mate, thanks, I think mine is too uneven actually, I would not mind if it was juuuust a bit more flat, never enough 😉
If you are using the Gardena on an uneven surface I don´t think it would work as well. Even on my lawn it misses some spots because it´s not 100% flat, you could work around that and adjust the height all of the time and run it over in different angles but that´s quite the hassle. The Gardena is good, but it is definitely one of those tools you really don´t need unless you have extra cash burning holes in your pocket :)
Thank you
Finally a video showing how it works on pavement not just lawn
Would be good to show how to empty it in bags or whatever to dispose the pickings
Hey mate, thanks alot, glad you found it helpful. Good suggestion, completely forgot about it, I usually just empty it near the edge of my property, so it feels trivial to me, but may not be for others, so good point to actually show what to do with all that.
Yard looks great!! Looks like great exercise, too.
Thanks man, appreciate it. Yeah, I need to invest in some petrol or battery driven stuff, I'm getting too much exercise with the stuff I have haha 😂
I love how much he belabors his hatred of raking
I really dislike it ;)
Sam, you need a chainsaw!
hahaha sounds like I do Gregory, if only someone had told me sooner! Would have saved me a lot of trouble :)
Keep up the brilliant videos, I'm off to watch another 😁
Mick
Hey Mick, thanks! I honestly was thinking about getting a rotary mower to just pick up leaves and stuff, but then I came across this thing, works really well. I have tried it after scarifying and it does not work at all for that, the debris is just too heavy, so a normal mower would be better for that, so I might get one anyways or a leaf blower actually, anything but the normal rake 😁
Really glad you like the videos, makes my day mate!
Hey Petri, I know, I really like it, was surprised how well it worked. If anything can cut raking time, I'm going for it :D
I think "Scott's" makes a machine like this in the USA.
Your videos are fun and helpful !
I'd like to see how the sweeper works on a lawn
"COVERED" with leaves as in pretty much any New England state.
I think you have your priorities just right, family always comes first :)
I try not to get too technical about things, I really do think too many youtube videos just complicates things. As you say, you are keeping it to the basics and it works for you, if you would want to crank it up a notch you could add maybe top dress one year, scarifying another. No need to go nuts on the lawn, like myself or some others, you can have a decent lawn without doing all that, so good for you mate!
Cheers Sam, and I do like the fact that you don't make your channel too technical. Have a great year.
Way back in the late 1950's - early '60's we used those to "sweep up" the leaves! In fact, as a kid, we use to take turns sitting in the basket section and getting the leaves "swept" into our face! LOL
So that's hardly a "new" item, just an old idea "recycled"!
haha sounds like fun! For sure most things are usually older stuff trending again or slightly rebuilt or reshaped but essentially the same.
I just mow my leaves. Why remove the nutrients by hauling them away?
Hey John, I agree, that would be the best way to not waste all that good stuff from the leaves, alas I don't have a mower that can mulch, I only have a manual reel mower. If I had another mower, I might have just done that.
Because oak leaves don’t mulch
Great videos and valuable content for northern climate lawn care!
Thanks alot Matthew, glad you find value in it. Sadly our northern climate will put an end to lawn care for some time pretty soon.
I'm with you on the raking
haha thanks, it does suck and takes so much time :D
I loved the building stories...I have been there with measurements
Best line...I am here to build stuff not read aaaaahahahahahahahaha...
Very charming and honest...
I agree about raking!
haha thanks mate, that´s just so typical me, i want to get it done 😂😂
You do know that is old school! They remodeled it however they had that type device way, way back in the late 1960s!!!! Yes, they used to be common in the USA!
Hey mate, yes I have been made aware of that :)
But a lot of things are just recycled ideas in a new package or it may be trending again, same with clothes or music or movies.
Video should be found here on RUclips, under :
" How To, with Doc "
Hope that helps !
Hey mate, awesome! Thanks a lot, definitely going to try that out, hope it works 🤙🏼😁
ruclips.net/video/2yMI9PRxCOI/видео.html
My leaf-buried lawn would simply laugh at this gadget!
Agreed - not a word 😊
haha you GET me dude! :)
Dethatchers should come with a rake attachment.
Hey mate, they sure should, actually thought about that too, I know the more expensive reel mowers come with a sweeper attachment, why not these home made cheaper dethatchers, doesn't seem it would be that expensive of an attachment to add to it. Good point mate.
I have that machine and a leaf blower. Leaf blower is 100 percent easier. It’s very strenuous to push around.
Hey Mate, some have said the same thing, I might actually get a leaf blower and see for myself. I think it's pretty ok to push around, but then again I only compare it to raking manually, never owned or even used a leaf blower.
You are the typical guy!! All right.
hahah sure am Dwight 😂
I bought lawn sweeper in yard sale for $10 and I loves it.
Hey Amit, I bet, those things are awesome, it's so much easier than going around hand raking everything, no way I am doing that again :D
@@SamsLawn Totally agree with you. I am young and physically fit but raking is just extremely tiring and boring for me.
Just ordered one... thanks
Awesome dude, glad you found the video helpful!
Thanks for the video. I skipped much of the beginning setup and disliked the music selection, but overall, good video.
Thanks for watching man, appreciate it 🙏
I don't know about this thing....
Sam, I have bought a scarifier so onwards and upwards😂
haha that's how it starts!
Maybe I am doing it wrong :)
My meditation is usually going around pulling weeds, I can get stuck doing it for hours, not sure why but it really is soothing for some reason :)
@@SamsLawn ❤ In any case, you have an awesome lawn (way better than mine, LOL), so keep on keeping on and babying those darling little hands!
Short grass and no stringy weeds makes raking easier
Neighbors' leaves are annoying too
haha, buy him a leaf collector this black friday sale, just as a hint ;)
Besides your lawn looking good, you also got some exercise by pushing it.
I agree, it's harder than people think to push these things around :)
Price is definitely more expensive than you state here. In Canada it is about $300
Hey Richard, wow, that's a huge price difference, I almost don't think it's worth the price we have, for what it does, but 300 is crazy, hopefully the prices go down now that Gardena set up shop in NA.
What about the corners, how do you clean them up?😊
Corners are fine as long as you don't have some kind of edging that gets in the way, I just put in some stone edges, which makes me have to manually rake the edges 🤦♂
Would this pick up nuts from oak trees? Im wondering if this would work
Hey Paul, hmm not sure, never tried it, but I would imagine it would work as long as they are not pushed down into the lawn, if they are just laying loosely on the lawn it would probably go into the collector, but if they have been on there for a while and dug themselves in I think it would be hard.
If this was powered and has suction, it may work even better
For sure, but then it would probably cost too much for what it does. It already is too pricy for what it does :)
Riding mower + giant leaf bag. Way cheaper and works better.
Hey mate, probably it would be better but for a small lawn like mine, it seems a bit too much. Think this works fine on lawns this size, if you would have a bigger lawn, then for sure riding mower would be better.
Dude, you need a Z-turn mower & a sweeper that you hitch up to it.
Hey Preston, for sure, that would make it easier, but I only have just over 2000 sqf, seems a bit too much for that 😅
@@SamsLawn Ahhh, ok.I have 10K sq. ft. of ground to cover.
Hard work is good for you don’t be lazy
Haha true mate true! I do so much in the yard so I don't mind if I find some tools that help along :)
Tom Flowers has a video on this platform showing the use of double sided tape and some rubber like material to stop the clippings being pushed out front of your taking machine while retaining the warranty.
Titled something like: Gardena lawn sweeper made 99% efficient or near that.
Thanks for the tip Wayne, definitely going to do that, looks like an awesome solution! Thanks for that dude!
For a level lawn with minimal leaves a sweeper is Ok but otherwise useless in my book. Takes up too much storage area for what it is worth. I had one for a couple season then sold it for like 1/4 what I paid for it. Not a big fan.
Thanks for sharing
And thank you for watching mate 🤙🏼😊
wow expensive there , i bought one similar tonight amazon $79. US $. been wanting one a while - i hate raking too and tons of leaves and pine straw.
Yeah really is, that's why I placed this one in the luxury item list, really is too expensive over here, but if you really really don't like raking then its worth every penny :)
But a really good purchase, you are going to love it, makes it so easy.
I have an agri fab ..2nd one. Best thing ever made
Hey Joseph, took a look at one of those, it sure does look awesome, that catcher box seems to be way better than the one on the Gardena.
Why did you buy a home with trees around just your home out in the sunshine
haha, I ask myself that question every fall Bruce 😂
Hi, did you already use it after scarifying? That would be the main reason for me to buy one
I will try to remember that for the next product review :)
By the way, if you ever come across something like that again, don't get frustrated, just send me a message and I can try to help as best as I can, always willing to help if I am able. Thanks a lot for the sub, appreciate it :)
It leaves the turf looking very gööd!
Haha, now we're talking Wayne! Thank you very mööch!
my lawn guy user blower to blow out of the landscape then mulches with a bag on mower.
For bigger lawns or if you have a lot of leaves I would say that is a much faster way to go.
how does it compare to using a mower with catcher?
Well, if I compare to the Gardena manual reel mower, it works 10 times better, but then again, that grass catcher is one of the worst ones I have seen. Otherwise it's pretty similar I would say, maybe the average mower works slightly better.
Do you think it’ll pick up acorns?
We get a lot of acorns too on our lawn, it will pick up the smaller ones that are on top of the grass. If they have been pushed down into the lawn then it won't. So I wouldn't say it's the best at picking them up unfortunately.
Does it work well after the rain, when leaves are dump?
Where can I get one in Thailand
Hey Dave, hmm not sure, maybe amazon Australia ships to Thailand? They have it at least.
2:55 ❤️✊🏾👍🏾
Thanks David 😁🤘🏼
Does it fluff the grass up?
It does, works great if you want to do it before mowing to get all the grass that is laid down, or to remove worm casts :)
@@SamsLawn Thank you, what the problem with worm castings?
@@mikeo8890 when you step on them the dirt they popped up will cover the grass and it will die off underneath so it's always nice to just go over it with a rake. But we are into super nerd territory here, your lawn will be just fine if you don't do anything about it :D
Sam,use the EGO POWER + 56VOLTS CORDLESS MOWER BBOTH BAGGING & MULCHING LEAVES OFF LAWNS OR FERTILIZE LAWNS! BONNE CHANCE! MIKE BOND 007!
Thanks for the tip Agent 007, will take into consideration ;)
Are these more for artificial grass! Like you i hate raking, but sometimes that's what you have to do. Fair play though and it does make the lawn look good. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Leon, appreciate it man. I think you can use it on both, and apparently on concrete too! I'm superglad I got that thing.
👍👍👍
Just mow it up?
Hey Dustin, sure that would be a way of doing it, especially if you could mulch it, that would be the best thing, get the nutrients back, but I don't own a regular mower, I only have a manual reel mower and it does pick up some of the leaves but not even close to getting all.
Can I use this to collect cores after lawn aeration ?
Hey, not sure actually, never tried it for cores. If I were to guess I would think you can get some of them out, but if the "rakes" get too many cores at once it might be too heavy. I will try it when I do core aeration, curious myself since getting all those "turds" off take forever :D
Does anyone know if this will pick up mulch?
Hey Clay, I would say it does pick up mulch that gets on to the lawn, but if you have larger pieces and A LOT then maybe it would struggle a bit.
Why not use a blower ??
Put on some gloves and do it manually or use a leaf blower and instead use it to suck up the leaves.
Haha I wish I had the energy to do that, too lazy, this works great though
Get a pair of gloves and voila no more blisters!
Hey Donald, weird thing is that I do use gloves and i still get them, I even got gloves with extra protective fabric around that area and I still got them, must be doing it wrong :D
Great video, good product but too much talking... Best regards.
Thanks mate. I know I do talk a lot 😂
I try to think about it EVERY video I make and I always end up still talking too much, guess I am just a talker :)

haha tack Adam ;)
Hi! What is the Swedish name for the lawn mower with mulching? Is it a separate attachment or a specific mower? Tnx for the demo :)
Buy a condo or move to arizona or Vegas
If only! haha
I think I would like it in Arizona actually, but there you would probably have other issues, the issues never stop :D
No I have purchased 5acres in clare michigan my last home had 30 9" dia trunks maples oaks hickory a few walnuts we have leaves but I made wood area and blow or dump them in the woods and if I can use my snapper lawn mower I chop some up about 3'deep in my garden you want manicure lawn I cut mine with a triplex Locke reel mower maybe you should look for a gas powered parker walk behind sweeper or a towbehind one with a tractor then just blow away from the hard to reach and ride by and sweep or a vacuum trailer and suck them leaves up and shreds then up
You reviewed a leaf sweeper with no leaves to sweep. LMAO
Haha yeah I don't have that much leaves, at least not when I made the video, that's the problem with filming everything all the time, sometimes you have to do it early to be able to edit and do everything before the leaves have actually fallen down. But I do have alot of pine needles, just released a reel on IG showing that, i filled 3 full bags on the leaf collector just with pine needles.

haha yeah, I have a tendency to repeat myself, trying to keep that in mind when recording.
Seems terrible. Destroys your grass

Dual-Tine Leaf Rake….they are awesome
Hey Tim, actually was looking for one of those just before I got the leaf collector, they look pretty awesome, maybe I get one anyways, since I still do use the rake from time to time, and as you saw, it's time to replace it :) thanks for the tip!
Best $ I spent, especially to get those pine tree needles swept up.
