    It's interesting in the beginnings of the show, stargates were an explosion hazard whose naquadah would amplify a nuke several times. By the end, they had become nearly indestructible and special gate-buster nukes were needed to even try to destroy one.

    • @Ragitsu
      @Ragitsu  Год назад +11

      I think the final form of naquadah in a stargate is different from raw/elementary naquadah.

    • @Elydir
      @Elydir Год назад +8

      I don't think the gates were ever a hazard when explosion happened near them. Remember that from the start they had self-destruct system that would blow up the entire base. If the gate amplified that, it would do a lot more than collapse the mountain. When the Earth gate did explode, it was because the gate itself was overcharged.

    • @ThorX89
      @ThorX89 Год назад +1

      @@Elydir Gates seemed a lot easier to destroy in the first season. In the Singularity episode, the Goaul'd had a gate-destroying explosive device that they'd plant inside of a living person. Nothing as big as the Mark IX supernuke used in season 9 or the ancient superweapon that Anubis tried to destroy the Earth gate with in season 6.

      @@ThorX89 Fair, though in season 2 they redirected the black hole wormhole by detonating a bomb next to the gate while directing all of the explosion at it. So it seems they decided pretty quickly that the gates are in fact borderline indestructible (makes one wonder what happened to the gate aboard Klorel's ship).

    • @alexmckee4683
      @alexmckee4683 Год назад +1

      @@ThorX89 the potassium-Naquadah bomb that self-assembled in Cassandra might be superior technology. A bigger bomb is not necessarily a more powerful bomb. Nirrti was very technologically advanced even for a Goa'uld. Anubis's gate buster had to dump huge amounts of power into the gate to cause an overload, the gate was capable of supercapacitance and superconduction so Anubis's weapon needed to dump more power into the target gate than it could store or conduct to cause an explosion. So neither of those examples really proves a retcon, but obviously I do agree that there was a retcon but it was very well done overall.

    I always thought the chain of command was awkward in latter seasons. Carter and Mitchell were the same rank and T, Vala, and Jackson weren't military.

    In this case Vala was right. They should have listened to her when she said run away! The Ori knew that the pride of their enemies wouldn't stop feeding them energy.

    • @DrakeOola
      @DrakeOola Год назад

      Still doesn't make any sense, the ori could've powered it themselves... We've seen the sg teams transport massive nukes through the stargates, even transported some ZPM's through the wormholes so if a single nuke just about provided all the power the ori needed to construct the beachhead then why didn't the ori just send their own nukes through the wormhole instead of relying on the humans to power it for them? Why did they wait that long and why didn't they just open multiple gates like that, strategically invaluable compared to funneling all your forces through a single gate the enemies are already aware of...

  • @Korohpu
    @Korohpu Год назад +58

    If the Ori can build forceshields that can absorb the energy of enemy weapon's fire to strengthen themselves, why didn't their ships have shields like that (not that they weren't overpowered enough already)?

    • @battleboat12
      @battleboat12 Год назад +5

      Maybe they did didn’t basically the same thing happen when attacking our ships they kept detecting weakpoints in them like they did here and wanted to transport a nuke over to one of their ships thru the weak part which is how Daniel got off the Korolev before it exploded

    • @TheAgamemnon911
      @TheAgamemnon911 Год назад +27

      The shield didn't get stronger, it got wider. It would be not ideal if your ship-shield would expand past the attackers in a dogfight...

    • @ash470
      @ash470 Год назад +8

      While I doubt it is explained in the the canon lore... my theory would be that while it is possible, it's not very feasible.
      Perhaps the equipment to create and maintain the field is either too large, or requires too much effort to set up and maintain. Heck maybe the device or its projections are harmful to be used nearby people. But most likely it was just a convenient throwaway plot device never meant to be spun into a bigger element.

    • @jiriseidl4376
      @jiriseidl4376 Год назад +5

      But that is exactly what they had. That’s why normal blast weapons didn’t work, and why the new Asgard beam weapons, which overloaded this capacity, worked.

    • @toddkes5890
      @toddkes5890 Год назад +4

      The Ori could have had something similar to the Dakara device on their side projecting that shield. Too big to be ship-mounted, but very useful to make sure you can get a beachhead in the target galaxy. So there would be a slight delay between the planetary shield absorbing the weapons fire and the planetary shield expanding, reflecting the need for the energy to go from the planet, through the stargate, into the Ori-Dakara setup, projected back as a planetary shield, sent back through the Stargate, and expanding over the planet. And a second shield to protect the gate from the Mk IX detonation, feeding that back into the planetary shield system as well.
      There would have been an impressive CGI/matte painting to show the device, but we never got to see it.
