Chigger Buddy, I'm so excited! This is only the beginning of my second year in the metal detecting hobby and i found a 30 lb parrott shell yesterday hunting around an old church. Its a couple hundred yards off of the river that travels through here and the shell is almost completely intact. Its only missing the skirt around the bottom and has just a little bit of surface rust. This thing is BEAUTIFUL! I almost feel underserving considering im still a newb. Love ya brother!

I have quite a few shell casings from the first world War. My great aunt brought back the shells, a German helmet with a bullet hole through the front and back also a bayonet. Took them to a historical war museum in Canada and got all items appraised. Decided to keep them as they might actually be worth something in the future. Being over 100 years old the massive shell casings now hold our umbrellas. The biggest casing was 9.5 inches across the casing and the projectile was over 880lbs when it was shot. I believe it was called big bertha shot by the Germans. Will post a video of them if anyone is interested. Also have a Russian 9mm unfired bullet in its casing. Kinda odd possessing over 100 years of the first word war. Somehow fascinating. Tried to find the largest casing on eBay and Amazon but it's been converted into trench art. I believe that I have probably a one and a million find thats a fully intact casing. All the research I've done I've only been able to find one other casing that has not been cut or turned into art. My grandmother's aunt was a medic in the first world war. If anyone has any other information it would be greatly appreciated!

Found a lot of those ends to shotgun shells around Ghost towns in Arizona. They were made of paper cardboard type material and the brass is always the only thing left. Clean it up Chig and there’s sites online that have excellent pictures and you can actually date the shell. It’s pretty awesome actually. People actually collect the stamped brass ends, especially if it’s one they don’t have.

I stopped hunting in that field years ago... There was so much case shot many you could see where balls had hit each other... My buddy and Myself had coffee can full and overflowing... You should have hit the Ohio camp in the field just North of that... The original road bed can be seen along the top of the hill... Hunt southwest of where the red barn stood - Joslyn bullets in abundance, and I dug a few plates in there... My favorite that I dug at that spot was the prettiest little burnside breastplate... It came from the fence row along the interstate... I hit a Confederate spot towards the bottom of the slope, in a little hollow/ravine... gardners and Block "I" button... There are a few more spots nearby - two are CS only relics...

Hello Dr. Chiggles--- Kinda thinking all the round balls are from a heavy concentration of case shot or canister rounds. That rock shaped like a clam shell, could have been a petrified clam shell. Someone in my family found a petrified cabbage, no joke. You could see the leaves, the veins, and the tips of the leaves were curled back. you could tell it was a cabbage, the leaves looked slightly thicker than lettuce. No, it was not man made, they found it on property my grandfather once had.
