You are a natural teacher. Thank you for great content (and not using distracting music in the background).
It is GORGEOUS 😍 amazing work!!
After watching at least 25 videos, I think I’m ready to try. You’re my favorite amongst to many tutorials I’ve seen. Love what you did with the table. Your beginners video is where I’ll start. I’ll let you know how it goes. 😀
Beautiful table!
Thank you for all your helpful videos!
Great video! Thank you! Very detailed. Your table is beautiful 👍
Amazing job taking a piece heading for the dump and making it a showpiece. Great job, great video.
Thanks, John!
Very nice finished product. I have refinished old and new stuff for many years. Another way to knock off the varnish between coats is with 400 grit wet or dry (black) using water. The water lubricates and removed the particles from the surface of the project. The paper can be dipped in the water to wash off the abrasive.
Beautiful piece, thanks for showing the before and after at the end
In this table you just got done doing it is beautiful and I learned a lot by watching you thank you
Omg after finding ur channel I think I found my passion. For years I wanted to do this kind of projects but I’m always thinking if I can actually do it. So today watching like 3 hours I realize I will do it no matter what Thank you for inspire me 👀
That is great! Happy Painting!
Well done, I just love how you show the product for a long time that was a plus. So many utube don’t do that.
They hold it so quickly and then shake it in their hands and so we can’t read it or see it well or take a pic of it.
Looks fantastic . I was waiting for a close up shot of the grain weathered look I think u forgot to put that.
Would love to see it closer. Thanks....
Sorry I didn’t get a close up. Go follow me on Instagram. I put one on my stories today! @pretty_distressed
Currently re-finishing an old chest of drawers and looking for ideas. Loved the tabletop stain finish, never been big on the distressed look but as you say that's a personal preference.
Thanks. Good luck on your project.
Stunning! Love the table and your home is beautiful. I am doing a vintage swing-leg, drop leaf table and this is the look I wanted to achieve. Thanks for posting!
Good morning, this is what amazing video I am going to venture out into redoing a piece of furniture and I was just looking for someone how to videos. This gave me all the information I need your very knowledgeable with refinishing furniture. Thanks for sharing and cross your fingers that my project goes well.
Please let me know how it goes!
Love it! I’ve never stopped at just one coat but I love how it turned out. Definitely going to try it.
Nice!

Amazing job 🥰👍👍
Thank you 🤗
Like your table,nice job👍👍👍👍👍
I love your work!!!
Thank you so much!
Turned out so good! So funny, when you started the video I thought you said “I’m pretty and stressed” instead of “from pretty distressed” lol!!🤪💕
😂 That too!
Lol hahaha
I’m totally trying it👍🏼
Very well done and very informative for me. Our farmhouse style table was originally finished with Minwax Polycrylic and in less than 2 years the surface became tacky when because of the high traffic it started breaking down. I have been researching trying to find a top coat I can use that will last longer without yellowing and withstand the use of our primary everyday table. I also want to preserve the original stain color of the table. How has the General Finishes top coat held up for you over these past 3-4 years? Do you think I could I apply it over the original Poly with just a little sanding first?
Wow! Love how it turned out. Thank you for sharing this tutorial! 😁
a very organized video! love it
Очень красиво!
Thank you
Love your videos!
I haave a metal black frame table with wiod on top that I don’t like. I was wondering what to do, this will be it! Thanks!
You're videos are so helpful. You break it down so beginners can really learn the process. One question tho -- what does "keep a wet edge" mean? Table turned out great. And I agree with the comment about your videos stand out amongst the hundred of furniture upcyclers. Great job
Love this table. I’m gonna try it
You should!
Very pretty!!
Absolutely beautiful! What a transformation! I love this driftwood look and the different look on the top and sides! Do you have any tutorials with blue distressed look? Thank you for the tutorial!
Adorable! Good job!
Hi Christina, Your table turned out pretty. I want to do my table with a white wash on the legs, but I am afraid the moment I put the poly, it will get yellowish. I have had that happened before. but I do not want to use wax. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
We are in the process of doing this to our kitchen table. It had a cherry-like finish on top (now sanded and stained with three coats of Sunbleached….it doesn’t seem to cover the table very well) and the apron is painted black. I had on keeping the black but it does not have a good balanced…the top is soooo light. What do you suggest we do with the apron?? If we do the Annie Sloan white in the video the black will show through and might look bad. Halp!
Lots of work
On a small table it would be nice to see somebody do a multi color maybe white with a touch of orange and a touch of red or gray blending it in what do you think
FYI......I have the exact sander and I tried ACE sand paper and it was horrible which is why you needed to use a windshield washer fluid bottle! Then I tried Diablo and Gator which were better but when I purchased Shop Smith (purchased at Lowes) it was like cutting butter with a hot knife!
I just used a Diablo one. I’ll have to check out the Shop Smith.
DO you ever do a matte finish on the top of a piece and satin on the rest? Wondring iff it would look weird. Thank you!
I love how this turned out! I subscribed to your channel. I have a kitchen table also to redo so this really helps!
Love it
Thank you!
Great video with the varathane stain. Such a beautiful transformation. Can this be applied without sanding the wood? Thanks
Love this. Could this be sealed on the top with a water based topcoat or no good because of the oil. Or should you just wait a few days?
love your tutorial. Could I use a cherry table for this look?
Te ha quedado genial,me encanta sobretodo como queda el tablero, lastima que no entienda inglés para saber bien que producto has utilizado.
I’ve used the varathane and didn’t wait 72 hours to polycrylic top coat. Just 24 and it did perfectly. Probably bc it’s so fast drying.
Hi Cristina thanks for you vidéos is helping me a lot We dont have the general finishes here can I use Gator hide Dixie Belle? Is the same result and effect? Thank you
Yes, you can.
Very nice love your work
What a beautiful job! I’m wondering, the top coat you used, I’ve done lots of reading but want to know how does it hold up with heat and water? I have a table now that leaves white rings if anything wet is left on it. I am re doing another table and don’t want this to happen. Thanks!
I still have this table and it's help up well. But I use coasters and placemats. Most tables not matter what finish need to be protected this way. The only thing that can withstand water rings and heat is stone or concrete.
I dont have anni chalk paint I have a krylon I believe..does the stain come in other colors..the table is beautiful thank u for sharing..
The stain comes in lots of colors at Home Depot
Very nice!
Beautiful job.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Been watching a lot of your videos I love your work I have a question I’ve been using Annie Sloan chalk paint using a brush I got me a sprayer and just wondered if you ever sprayed it and if so what is the water to paint ratio thank you
I have sprayed AS. Check out this video, it should help answer your questions.. ruclips.net/video/qCK_Xuf3w4M/видео.html
I loved
Thank you Christina! Do you have a video to accompany refinishing the wooden chairs I have for the kitchen table? Can I just chalk paint the chairs and finish with clear wax or do I need to do something in particular to the chair seat? M.
This video should help...ruclips.net/video/j48Sf8nkCoc/видео.html
The table turned out great! I live in an apartment, and I want to redo my dining room table. My cat has scratched the legs. Taking the table outside isn’t an option. Can you suggest another way I can refinish it. I’ve used Annie Sloan paint in a shiny finish dresser. It came out great. I was thinking of using Annie Sloan chalk paint for the table as well.
Rosalind Dudley it’s already done!😊 The cat scratched it up and now it’s distressed. Voilà!
Love it! Thanks for the video!
How long does one sanding pad last? Mine last 2 minutes and then falls off.
Hello, how do sand at the corners? Just by hand? Because yours is looking so clean
Yes, I usually sand the corners by hand, so I don't wear the edges down.
Did you do your china cabinet and if so is there a video? Love the table wish I could have seen this before I did mine.
I did, but it was before I started doing videos. Here is the blog post on it... www.prettydistressed.com/blog//2014/03/at-last-dining-hutch-reveal.html?rq=Hutch
I started my kitchen table with everything you did and loved how it turned out but then I added the layer of sealer. I waited 24 hours for it to dry and then sanded it I think too much! I did it by hand with 320 grit sandpaper. :( Can I add more stain now to get it back or how should I proceed now? Super bummed! Please don't tell me I have to start over!
Can this stain be applied over a table that has been chalk painted but not sealed yet?
If you have done a piece and waxed it. Decide you do not like it, do you have to sand all the wax off to start again or can you just paint over if you have used clear and dark wax?
Just paint over it. I just did a video on this!
Would you spray paint a table if it had a braided detail around it? Also how would you paint chairs? Spay or brush? Thank you! I want to do my dining Room table so bad but I think I want to stain the top and paint the bottom but the bottom part of my table has a lot of detail in it.
I love painting tables with detail! It will look great. Check out my video on painting legs with detail. ruclips.net/video/j59fUSI_b8U/видео.html
Does your sweatshirt sat Middle Tennessee? We live in Oklahoma but are from Knoxville. I love all your paint videos!
It sure does! I’m a MTSU grad!
Sweet!! We are UT grads!
I have watched hours of the amazing things you do, while all the while collecting pieces from everywhere! My spare room is full now so time to get over the fear and just start! I also acquired a beautiful whicker ( I don't know the correct name so) the ladies used to change behind it . Its from Peer one in natural sandy color, any suggestions for a color I would appreciate any help. again you are amazing and thankyou for sharing your gigt!
I always love white! Thank for watching!
did you sand the poly coat at all?
Hi Christina I have a question I am new to projects and I am loving your work. I love your style and I have seen that you use the Dixie Belle gray wax product can you use that to do the top of the table?
Yes, you could. However, I prefer to use a clear coat versus wax on kitchen tables because they are a bit more durable. My dining table is waxed, but it doesn’t get as much use as the kitchen table.
I love your videos! They're very helpful. Why did you use the Purdy paint brush instead of the Annie Sloan chalk paint brush?
I always used to use that brush because it's the one I started out with. The AS brush would work her too.
If you decide to pre treat the wood how long you wait to stain the top?
Très sympa
Beautiful. Great save.
You are inspirational!
Thank you! You’re so sweet!
Hi Christina, I noticed you have bar chairs from restoration hardware (or at least they look like it). These chairs are made of bare wood, right? How can I make them look refreshed, mine are a little worn out. Thank you!
I sold these with my house. Yes they are from RH! Try to return them. My seats got worn and they exchanged them for me!
Great job !!!
Now when u eat on this table cause I have kids and I wanna do this to my kitchen table but not stain just chalk paint and distress n then use the top coat what would u clean ur table of with a wood cleaner or can I just use my dish rag will it mess up the paint or chip the paint
You can use the topcoat in this video with the paint. I use just warm water and mild dish soap to wipe it down spots and stains. For everyday wipe down I just use a warm water. Once a week you can use a Clorox wipe. It’s held up nicely for a year for me.
@@ChristinaMuscari thank you so much I appreciate that I love you videos I got a wood table from Ashley Furniture that I paid $700 for I I only had it for 6 months in the wood is scratched up on the table like as if I took a knife in just sliced on my table it looks terrible and I am upset so I plan on painting my whole table black along with my chairs and distressing it
Love it!
How do you clean the top of the table? I'm wanting to do this to my kitchen table that gets a lot of use.
It’s my kitchen table. I wipe it down daily with a warm, wet paper towel or rag. I use a Clorox wipe once a week or so.
Christina Muscari awesome! Thank you!
Love your videos, have learned a lot watching you, thank you! What color of paint do you have on your walls in this video? Looks like a dining room? Thanks!
Yep. It was my dining room in our IL house. The color is Sherwin Williams Hazel.
Christina Muscari thank you!
It looks beautiful. Wax on the chalk paint would have protected and made it pop even more. That’s my fav step to making it beautiful.
Came out beautiful! I also love your wood floors in your kitchen. Where did you get them?
Thank you! They're from Lumber Liquidators and they're bamboo so very durable.
I LOVE that table. Is Varathane like a polyurethane or do you need to be mindful of water stains?
It is waterproof, but I use coasters and placemats to protect my finish.
Does this varnish smell bad? I have to work indoors...
As a general safety precaution, Please consider removing the draw string from your hoodie before working with any power tool. The ends of the draw string could get caught or tangled in equipment or wick up any chemicals you might be using resulting in skin irritation, burns. Love your videos!
Thanks for the tip!
do you have any advice for kitchen table that has a factory shellac finish on it? I sanded and sanded the finish and then did regular paint and top coat that yellowed :( so then I chalked painted it and waxed it but the table is used so much that it is not holding up. Any recommendations? Could I use a gel stain?
This finish is holding up well. You could also do the gel stain and their gel topcoat. That is a durable finish.
Can i use any water based flat topcoat ?
Yes, but I think General Finishes is the best.
OMG, I love the foam brush saving tip! Thanks!
Do you have a tutorial for the hutch behind you in the video?
I don't. It was one of the first pieces I did. I have a blog post, but it doesn't have step by step directions. I can tell you it is painted in Annie Sloan Paris Grey with a wash of Old White and the interior of the cabinet is Old White as well.
1-is annie sloane removable with cloth or water if dont seal?
2-is waterbased paint and water based sealant removable with water? Can you clean table top with water/cloth? Difference in use between water/oil baded paint and sealant?
THANKYOU sooo much! Wonderful--
You will need a paint stripper to remove the paint.
Yes, you can clean the table top with a cloth. I even use a Clorox wipe now and then.
I use a water based sealant for the flat finish.
How are u supposed to clean off the apron of the table if u didnt even seal it?
