I'm not entirely sure. I assume this ONU is simply a dumb media converter, but you can buy modules designed for your exact purpose anyway. Some I've seen around aren't tooooo expensive, especially if you get ones pulled from data centers etc during upgrades.
Not really, I assume it is a PON ONU, meaning it has a 1310nm Rx ,1490nmTx,..that's why normally on WDM media converters one side tx is normally opposite the Tx on the other side,(same is true for RX),..there is an experiment am conducting, replacing the BOSA(bidi optical sub assembly) modules on two onus with the ones that match Rx and Tx and test if two onus can work as point to point media converters,..the BOSA in this case is that component attached to the fiber pigtail,,,
what is the name and the serial of the chip ? for the OFN chip and the little chip before the fiber cable (or fiber laser?) please, cause I don't found any datasheet in the web
I'm not sure. I'll have to try mine to see. I have my Softbank router/wi-fi set to pppoe passthrough with wi-fi disabled so it just does the phone connection and passes the internet stuff to my Asus router, which then does my wi-fi and DHCP and all that stuff.
By the way, I'm talking about public Wi-Fi access points. I'm not sure if they have been changed or not, but back when I was there, I couldn't use the internet despite having like 10 of those APs sitting right there.
Ah yep. You need to have a SIM card from the respective provider that isn't a prepaid plan or the like. If you have the option enabled in your phone plan, you can use the wi-fi access point instead of mobile data, helpful in areas where cell reception might be a bit spotty, like the back of a bar in one of the old drinking streets around Tokyo, or out in the countryside etc.
I'm trying to find out if I absolutely HAVE to rent the modem(onu) or modem/router from FLETs Hikari. I don't like the idea of renting a modem, and am curious if its just like the olden days of DSL/ISDN/etc, where I can purchase my own. According to the FLETs English site the end router needs to be PPPoE and CHAP compatible for FLET'S Hikari Next, but I can't find any information on the ONU. Kakaku doesn't sell any cheapy ones either. Sorry, but I'm super new to the world of fiber
I have this fiber unit connected to my own Asus router/modem, but I can't say if I was required to rent the service providers router/modem.. We needed it anyway to provide the telephone connection.
Who downvoted this, this is awesome. Lots of hand waving when it comes to network gear and very little real data available unless you crack one open unfortunately.
You'll need to come to Japan and sign up for a FTTH internet connection to your home to get one from NTT Data. I doubt it would work anywhere but Japan...
Ftth bsnl
I am getting it installed
And this helped me a lot
Hey, I have a question! Could I use an ONU terminal as a media converter to extend my home network to a barn that's a couple of miles away?

Obviously more than a media converter, probably handles protocol translation as well. Looks to be nicely cost reduced.
Thanks for the videos. :-)

Hi
I just want to ask if you know what wavelength it is using.
talk a little about these
HTB-3100 fiber optic media converter
How do it work I will like to know
I want to know why SoftBank Wi-Fi access points cannot be used with Android/Apple devices.

Is it reliable?
Seems to be so far. They are used all through Japan and seem to work well.
Flash memory is not RAM.
It is ROM
@@andersonpyaban8042 Technically it's quite similar to EPROM, except it uses hot electron tunnelling instead of UV light to erase it.

where can i get one
I think you'll have to come to Japan and sign up for an internet connection I guess, unless one can be found on the surplus market?
can anyone type here the codes of the chips he said
