Nothing worse than hearing this song on the radio and having it cut out before the extended ending...infuriating. I begin yelling at the DJ as if he can hear me.
Was a DJ/Music Director in the era. Chicago was getting excellent air play on what was called "Adult Contemporary" stations. As a rule, the format avoided anything that had too "hard" an edge. The ending - which was fantastic - kicked like a mule... as a result most stations created an edited version which faded out the powerful conclusion. I also happen to believe Chicago never actually recovered from the death of Terry Kath. Early on the singing was divided between Robert Lamm, Terry Kath, and Peter Cetera. Consider, it was Terry Kath who sang "Color My World" which was arguably Chicago's first universally recognized ballad.
"When we get there gonna jump in the air, no one'll see us 'cause there's nobody there, after all you know we really don't care, hold on I'm gonna take you there!
This song is one of my favorites! The melody sounds really magical which is why I made my own piano cover of this song on my channel. I also placed lyrics so it can serve as an accompaniment for those who'd like to sing with it! I wish more songs like this would still be composed even nowadays.
Thanks for this upload, Johann Christian 0710! You've captured the ears of a bona fide 1980's/Generation Xer here! This was one of my favorite Chicago songs from back in the 1980's!
The first 3:50 is the band Chicago performing a standard Chicago ballad then at about 3:50 members of Earth Wind and Fire and KC and the sunshine band bum rushed into the studio and took over the song with Peter Cetera knowing to just go with it and the rest is history. 😁
When we get back on that jump in the air. Don't wanna see us cause there's nobody there. After all you know we really don't care. Hold on. I'm gonna take you baby.
Erika Because is Hard To Say I'm Sorry Please! Come Back Together I'm Your Kuya in Group Chat of Ay Ey and Your a Ate Then Don't Left Group D' Ay Ey Group Chat. I Need U To Protect Always and I'm Your Friendzone Kapatid.
NEVER understood why they concluded this ballad with that circus at the end!! I literally feel like I am 10 years old again, at Ringling Bros, Barnum & Bailey, or maybe at Sea World, at the Shamu show, silently praying under my breath that the creepy clown that’s maniacally running through the crowd isn’t going to pick me to join him on stage.

Finally - the good version with the rockin' ending.
Even 102.7 WBOW plays the heavy rock ending, YEAH
First, close dancing. Second, Happy Rock and Roll Partytime.
best version is the extended version
Extended version is the only way to go. A masterpiece!
I Love the brass. My dad played trumpet. 1st in trumpet at state. He passed in 2016. He gave me his trumpet, and case. Love you, Dad.
I know I might be three months late but sorry for your loss I wish I could have heard that
possibly the best ending to any song...ever
Hard to say I'm sorry is Chicago's best song. The extended version is awesome! Congratulations!
I hate that they butcher it for the radio. I suppose they have their reasons though.
Always loved this version....pumping ending.
Never understood why the radio stations wouldn't always play the long version. The best part!
The ending makes this song a fricken masterpiece.
The ending is fantastic!

This song is usually followed by "Get Away" for that "rocking ending".

linda show music
This was always a difficult song to dance to. You'd start a slow dance but then end up fast dancing. The transitional part was difficult.
💜
Anyone here cause of the movie SUMMER LOVERS???
Sorry to say I'm hard
Bt Strom lol!
If that feeling lasts longer than 4 hours, consult a doctor
What is Peter singing? "After all the hue you've been through"?
does anybody hv the lyrics for the extended part?

Epic song, but an epic train wreck of an ending from around the 4-min mark onwards.
Wow the ending is incrediable.
