For the record the horrible, bad, terrible, no-good men at the table with her, earned her wrath by firing her, because she A. had them open a branch office in her hometown so she could work conveniently close to home, B. got them involved in a large-scale real estate acquisition program based on a large company preparing a project in the area C. began attempting to sabotage the project (which would hurt the value of her company's new holdings, bought under her advice) D. began using her company's funds to try to manipulate the stock of the large company, despite being warned more than once that the large company was too wealthy & powerful to be beaten that way E. had the large hostile company turn around and crush her employer company in a hostile takeover in self-defense and F. caused two different employees of the company to me murdered by her family's rivals in their mutual criminal activity, the second one in a bomb that destroyed the company's office. So that's why Beth snaps at the waitress, because after all of that horrible incompetence and malfeasance, getting employees killed, an office bombed and the company taken over by an enemy, they are firing her. So polite to people who serve her. And let's not forget her first interaction with a server on the show. Beth, who smashes a bottle on a woman's head, for propositioning her and her husband, with his permission, and gets away with it by having the prosecutor accuse the other woman of assault for making that proposition, will threaten to stab a server for calling her ma'am after she gives him a tedious lecture explaining why any other form of address is incorrect. Because he asked her to stop smoking, which is a. illegal, b. the right of any property owner (try to tell a Dutton that THEY don't have the right to make the rules for THEIR property and see how long before they send Beth's husband to violently correct you) to demand and c. unhealthy and annoying to other people. Beth is as toxic a customer as she is an employee.

First time I've watched any of this and was pleasantly surprised and quite entertained. This actress owns this role and I love her gritty profiles she rattles off to the guys that try to hit on her. Totally interesting and amusing at the same time. I'll have to check out more on this series.
It is amusing to read some of these comments, especially those who are critical of her "character, Beth". But that's just the point that most miss, this talented actress does an amazing job portraying this role of Beth. I doubt if there are many, if any, actresses that could pull off this as well as Kelly Reilly! And for her to be able to hide her native accent, is not easy whatsoever! It's Oscar quality acting for sure. Don't be so hard on her, she's just acting the lines written for her, and she's fantastic at it! Kudos to her. It's 5 o'clock somewhere Beth!
If you've ever watched American Horror Story, I would say Frances Conroy could deff portray Beth as an actor in a more calm demeanor from seeing how shes played her roles In AHS

Beths character is the intersection of a highly intelligent local who has always been highly aware of the “California people”. This is a common theme in Montana locals vs. outsiders - who buy up the land, drive up prices, and treat the locals (esp the women) like hillbillies. Underestimated for her competence her entire life by the outsiders she enjoys the game like a cat toying with a mouse until with one paw smote the mouse it is no more; then deposits the carcass on her fathers doorstep. Proud of the kill waiting for the atta girl from the men around her that never comes. In “Montana Yellowstone” the women are expected to pull their weight just as much, if not more, than the men.

Okay, Beth's career has actually been outside of Montana until the events of the show. There is no indication that she was underestimated. In fact, her first scene they brought her in to verbally abuse a businessman to no real point, clearly valuing her contributions over & above their current worth. "buy up land, drive up prices" - Do you know what that means? It means they are actually DOING something with the land, instead of letting it sit there so cows can stretch their legs and her Daddy can indulge his fear of change & cling to 19th century methods of raising beef. "Drive up prices" BENEFITS the Duttons who already own massive amounts of land, or it would benefit them, if John wasn't so selfish that he values the idea of a ranch above his children's financial future. The idea that this family of criminals speaks for the average Montanan shows how clueless the writers are, or just maybe, if the average Montanan does hold out John Dutton as his hero & champion, the DESERVE to be looked down upon as hillbillies. For all the people without the skills to be useful to the Duttons as slave labor or badge-carrying thugs, John is the worst thing to happen to the state, constantly interfering with other people's attempts to make a living or bring in businesses that will employ licals or improve their quality of life. John Dutton would be the first to say "you can't tell me what to do on my property" while never once extending the same respect, because what you do on YOUR property might expose his obsolete lifestyle as the inefficient, rich man's indulgence it really is. Who are these mice Beth toys with before depositing on Daddy's doorstep? The local criminals who murder her employee after she takes zero steps to protect herself when the explicitly threatened her? The man she famously told "you're the trailer park, I'm the tornado" only to lose a financial war with his company so she had to have her boyfriend huck a rattlesnake at his face? The big corporation who destroyed her employer, hired her to entrap her and she fell right into their trap, only to be saved when Daddy got elected governor and drove them away so they lost interest in prosecutong her? Beth is a clown who coasts on her family's status in the community.

In some ways, her overbearing, high-fashion, and boozy persona actually had likable charm. Her character resonated a bit along the lines of Dean Martin's famously put-on alcoholism schtick. Was she really loaded, or was she putting on? But the writers -- at least in my opinion -- jumped the shark with Beth as the series moved forward. Maybe it was Kelly Reilly's interpretation. But the character's meanness and cruelties became bottomless. When the young boy, Carter, called her "Mom" as she was walking through the barn, she flat-out broke his heart. It was abusiveness which had no underlying redemption. In defense of the earlier form of the character, I'll grant that the writer(s) are at fault. But, still, the character lost all virtue along the way. Anyway, that's one guy's opinion
My favorite Beth scene at a bar is #5 we’re the husband is a total asshole to his wife at the bar. I quote “women” “I’m talking about your husband leaving you here at the bar to buy him a drink and do Kegel exercises where he goes and powders his nose, we’re it should be the other way around”.
Which lovable people? The crime family, that suborns the state government to their private interests, squashing businesses that would improve the local economy, because it would make their inefficient cow business too expensive? The patriarch who brands his son for having a girlfriend he does not approve of, who forces his son's career choices to benefit his ranch, and later on puts the ranch in a conservation trust that will prevent any of his kids from ever being able to sell their inheritance, clearly demonstrating that he values the ranch more than he loves his kids? The dimwitted manual laborers who murder people at the behest of their employers, while letting themselves be exploited by an appeal to a nostalgic myth about their job? The deluded ethnic supremacists who let their leaders run a cult and multi-million dollar business, while leaving their people in squalor and vulnerable to addiction and predators? Tate is literally the only character about whom you could say "He did not deserve that" if he was shot in the head. And maybe his mother, but her hypocrisy and religious delusions make her so tiresome that you want root for the murderers.

First time I've watched any of this and was pleasantly surprised and quite entertained. This actress owns this role and I love her gritty profiles she rattles off to the guys that try to hit on her. Totally interesting and amusing at the same time. I'll have to check out more on this series.

It is amusing to read some of these comments, especially those who are critical of her "character, Beth". But that's just the point that most miss, this talented actress does an amazing job portraying this role of Beth. I doubt if there are many, if any, actresses that could pull off this as well as Kelly Reilly! And for her to be able to hide her native accent, is not easy whatsoever! It's Oscar quality acting for sure. Don't be so hard on her, she's just acting the lines written for her, and she's fantastic at it! Kudos to her. It's 5 o'clock somewhere Beth!
If you've ever watched American Horror Story, I would say Frances Conroy could deff portray Beth as an actor in a more calm demeanor from seeing how shes played her roles In AHS
She does but her character is a POS honestly and has so much emotional damage that needs worked on and the way she has blamed Jaime for her faults is amusing and it all stems from her being a wuss and having pretty much been the reason her mom passed Jaime became her skape goat ...and not even get started on the emotional damage Mr.Dutton has passed on to all of his kids and has created these monsters.

She really is taking her sterilization trauma to be the be all end all excuse to crucify Jaime for anything. She is the downfall of the family now. Beths character is the intersection of a highly intelligent local who has always been highly aware of the “California people”. This is a common theme in Montana locals vs. outsiders - who buy up the land, drive up prices, and treat the locals (esp the women) like hillbillies. Underestimated for her competence her entire life by the outsiders she enjoys the game like a cat toying with a mouse until with one paw smote the mouse it is no more; then deposits the carcass on her fathers doorstep. Proud of the kill waiting for the atta girl from the men around her that never comes. In “Montana Yellowstone” the women are expected to pull their weight just as much, if not more, than the men.

Okay, Beth's career has actually been outside of Montana until the events of the show. There is no indication that she was underestimated. In fact, her first scene they brought her in to verbally abuse a businessman to no real point, clearly valuing her contributions over & above their current worth.
"buy up land, drive up prices" - Do you know what that means? It means they are actually DOING something with the land, instead of letting it sit there so cows can stretch their legs and her Daddy can indulge his fear of change & cling to 19th century methods of raising beef. "Drive up prices" BENEFITS the Duttons who already own massive amounts of land, or it would benefit them, if John wasn't so selfish that he values the idea of a ranch above his children's financial future. The idea that this family of criminals speaks for the average Montanan shows how clueless the writers are, or just maybe, if the average Montanan does hold out John Dutton as his hero & champion, the DESERVE to be looked down upon as hillbillies. For all the people without the skills to be useful to the Duttons as slave labor or badge-carrying thugs, John is the worst thing to happen to the state, constantly interfering with other people's attempts to make a living or bring in businesses that will employ licals or improve their quality of life. John Dutton would be the first to say "you can't tell me what to do on my property" while never once extending the same respect, because what you do on YOUR property might expose his obsolete lifestyle as the inefficient, rich man's indulgence it really is.
Who are these mice Beth toys with before depositing on Daddy's doorstep? The local criminals who murder her employee after she takes zero steps to protect herself when the explicitly threatened her? The man she famously told "you're the trailer park, I'm the tornado" only to lose a financial war with his company so she had to have her boyfriend huck a rattlesnake at his face? The big corporation who destroyed her employer, hired her to entrap her and she fell right into their trap, only to be saved when Daddy got elected governor and drove them away so they lost interest in prosecutong her?
Beth is a clown who coasts on her family's status in the community.

At first and second seasons, I found the Beth character to have been written as an attractive, interesting, and shrewd personality. In some ways, her overbearing, high-fashion, and boozy persona actually had likable charm. Her character resonated a bit along the lines of Dean Martin's famously put-on alcoholism schtick. Was she really loaded, or was she putting on? But the writers -- at least in my opinion -- jumped the shark with Beth as the series moved forward. Maybe it was Kelly Reilly's interpretation. But the character's meanness and cruelties became bottomless.
When the young boy, Carter, called her "Mom" as she was walking through the barn, she flat-out broke his heart. It was abusiveness which had no underlying redemption.
In defense of the earlier form of the character, I'll grant that the writer(s) are at fault. But, still, the character lost all virtue along the way. Anyway, that's one guy's opinion
My favorite Beth scene at a bar is #5 we’re the husband is a total asshole to his wife at the bar. I quote “women”

The dimwitted manual laborers who murder people at the behest of their employers, while letting themselves be exploited by an appeal to a nostalgic myth about their job? The deluded ethnic supremacists who let their leaders run a cult and multi-million dollar business, while leaving their people in squalor and vulnerable to addiction and predators?
Tate is literally the only character about whom you could say "He did not deserve that" if he was shot in the head. And maybe his mother, but her hypocrisy and religious delusions make her so tiresome that you want root for the murderers.
