@@theperfectmix2 I disagree that it's on the voters. If someone lost someone on 9/11, or in the Holocaust, it's poor taste to say "prove it". Or to actually look it up because the implication is they are lying. Of course the press SHOULD fact check this. And other things like being on Hannah Montana are easy to fact check, but depending on what he claim he did on the show, if he was a background perform may not be listed so it's easy to dismiss.

Say what you will about Republican, but at least they're willing to throw out the trash. Granted thinking about it. If you are talking about the guy shown talking to the press in the video, I think he is a member of Congress? In that case, the Constitution affords him the power to vote however he wishes, and thus he may apply any standards of evidence/process he wishes in making his decision (because the Constitution does not put forth any standard, as explained in the video). I interpreted his remarks as explaining his vote: he was saying that, for him, he requires that the person considered for expulsion receive the same level of due process that a criminal defendant receives. The Constitution does not require this, but nor does it disallow a voting member of Congress from requiring it (as their own personal standard for expulsion cases).

"Due process under the law, not due process under an Ethics committee" is such a silly line and I appreciate you highlighting it. It's like saying your boss can't fire you without a criminal trial. If they were sending him to jail without a trial, that would be denying him due process under the law. They're not. His trial is next year. The Ethics committee was supposed to determine if he had violated the ethical standards of the House. He was expelled from congress, not sent to jail. I'm so tired of people who know nothing about the law speaking so sanctimoniously about the law.

    • @threenumbnuts

Same with "innocent until proven guilty" aka the presumption of innocence. It's an absolutely fantastic standard *in the courtroom*, but stans of the accused party try to enforce it on others everywhere- in conversation, on online forums, wherever. If you want to go about life that way, that's your choice- though it's usually a bad faith argument, too many will say an accused sexual predator is 'innocent until proven guilty' but imply that their accusers are 'lying sluts' who are guilty of perjury, slander or libel by accusing him- but it's not a universal standard by any means.

    • @jaelwyn

The better part is that he got due process under law. The law (Constitution) lets the House decide how it wants to handle such things. It did, and to all accounts it then handled this according to those procedures. Thus due process under law - the process was followed.

Right? I'd start looking at the Democrats that voted against it (though one already has...a history). Republicans were likely to try to keep him there because they need all the numbers they can get before elections start because they aren't likely to keep the house then.
Not siding with anyone, but voting against ousting an opponent with a clear open and shut case of fraud...isn't the best of optics, while voting to keep someone from your side regardless of...issues (especially in the post Trump-era GOP party) is...normal.

So they kept him in as long as they could when they already have more members of the house retiring/resigning throwing their shrinking majority into jeopardy.

Say what you will about Republican, but at least they're willing to throw out the trash. Granted thinking about it. Point of note: stealing puppies from the Amish is NOT a bad thing. I guarantee that was an amish puppy mill where dogs are kept in cramped filthy abusive conditions, in metal cages stacked outside in all weather, and where unwanted litters and no breeding dogs are shot or drowned, where probably the adult dogs' vocal cords are cut to keep down on the noise probably by a non-vet, and all of this is legal in PA and OH.
A few months ago I saw this rescue documented the conditions, and offered to take the dogs that the owners were getting ready to kill (some that were 8 months to a year old) and even though the bastards were going to shoot these dogs anyways, they still made the rescue PAY for the pups instead of just giving them up; and apparently it's like that with a lot of other places the rescue went to. They'd rather kill puppies than let them go freely to a good home.
So stealing puppies might be the only good thing Santos even if his intent was probably dickish af.

8:05: I love how one of Nick Lalota's arguments is that George Santos is far from rich. He is admitting that being rich is something the Republican party and that Republican voters expect their politicians to be.
Also, 105 Republicans voted not to expel George Santos, some under the excuse that he hadn't been convicted in a court of law yet despite the fact that not only is that not a requirement for impeachment or expulsion, but the Republican party regularly votes to impeach Democrat presidents based only on the fact that they don't like them (like the repeated votes to impeach President Barrack Obama or the ONGOING IMPEACHMENT PROCESS against President Biden despite the fact that Biden has yet to be even accused of committing any crimes himself yet. EVERY HOUSE SINGLE REPUBLICAN voted to proceed with impeachment proceedings.

Due process only applies to the justice system. Being expelled isn't part of that. It's like how an employee gets fired for criminal behavior outside of work. The justice system will give him due process for the crime and the employer can fire him because his behavior doesn't represent their values or public image. An employer can fire you for misconduct or poor behavior. That's what happened to Santos. He was fired, not convicted. The conviction is still coming.
