It's never a good idea to anger the judge. Yes, they do have a duty to be as impartial as possible in how they run the trial, but the angrier they get, the harder it is for them to take a charitable view to miststeps. This is what the judge was referencing in terms of credibility as a judge that trusts that they're being given honest answers has the lattitude to relay more on that with less evidence than one that has reason to believe that there's a bunch of lies and BS incoming from just one side.
It's a bit like that case where the only evidence was a written document produced at the last minute that was allegedly decades old. It was printed with settings that are normal now, but were impossible at the time and it went from a trial where there basically was no evidence either way beyond the parties to the contract to one of them very clearly being a liar on that detail.

@@if7723 That, or you take the p***. As in the case of Arkell vs. Pressdram. For those who don't know it, the UK satirical magazine Private Eye published allegations that a Mr Pressdram was taking illicit payments. They received the following solicitors' letter:
"We act for Mr Arkell who is Retail Credit Manager of Granada TV Rental Ltd.
":His attention has been drawn to an article appearing in the issue of Private Eye dated 9th April 1971 on page 4. The statements made about Mr Arkell are entirely untrue and clearly highly defamatory.
"We are therefore instructed to require from you immediately your proposals for dealing with the matter. Mr Arkell's first concern is that there should be a full retraction at the earliest possible date in Private Eye and he will also want his costs paid. His attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of your reply."
Private Eye knew it had a rock solid case, so it replied:
"We acknowledge your letter of 29th April referring to Mr J. Arkell.
"We note that Mr Arkell's attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of our reply and would therefore be grateful if you would inform us what his attitude to damages would be, were he to learn that the nature of our reply is as follows: f*** off." (The original was not censored).
Arkell did sue, but after about a year his case fell apart and he was ordered by the court to pay Private Eye's full costs. At which, Private Eye published "Mr Arkell has now, albeit belatedly, complied with the suggestion made to him at an earlier stage in the proceedings."
No direct profit in playing it that way, but a lot of publicity and status. And I understand that "I refer you to the reply given in the case of Arkell vs. Pressdram" has become a way for UK lawyers to tell each other to f*** off while *just* staying within professional bounds.

Who is to say this was a good outcome?
Its possible tucker was right if you listen to 2016 democrats. Both sides have constantly talked about this issue overall. But do note the amount fox settled for was worth not taking a risk even regardless of if they were in the right.
Remember CNN talked about unsafe voting in 2016 and Steven Colbert did a full episode on those voting machines around the same time saying what tucker said recently but claiming if caused Trump to win.
I would argue there is not enough clear info to determine real truth. Both media sides claim the other lies. Any time people are censored in such a way is a crime in my book. But fox is a business and trials are not about truth but perception. The determining factor as to weather fox would win or loose is almost entirely on the political leanings of the jury. So basically a 50 50 chance of losing over a billion dollars. Those are not chances they want to take.

In my car a couple of weeks ago I heard a caller to a right wing radio show who was furious that the judge at Trump's arraignment had told him to be quiet, "in violation of his 1st Amendment rights." Like a 5-minute rant on how all Americans have "free speech" even in a courtroom, and that the judge was basically being a dictator. (Of course the host agreed with him!) Did I say it was going to change anything? No. I know a lot of others *are* saying that, but I'm not.
My point is just that "house-cleaning" appears to be involved at Fox as part of the settling this lawsuit. And Carlson makes the most sense objectively for Fox to axe. He *is* their biggest money draw, but based on other texts by Carlson criticizing Fox's admin, he was clearly starting to think he ran the show.
Would firing Hannity or Bartiromo bring Tucker to heel? No. But you shitcan Carlson? Everyone else is going to remember who's the actual boss again. At the same time, this will give Fox faux credibility going into the upcoming Smartmatic suit that they are "turning over a new leaf" that might pressure Smartmatic into settling that suit as well just as in this Dominion suit. It should also get rid of some of the other suits against Fox because of Carlson, like I think there's a discrimination/harassment suit against him as well. This likely gets Fox out of that as well.
So no, Fox is not going to stop being absolutely terrible, but them getting rid of Carlson now does make sense.
