As far as Aussie managers go, Popovic is definitely up with the best. I forgot Luongo retired from international football 😅 For some reason I feel like this could be a great fit for the Socceroos can't forget he did play for them back in his day!!

Would be great to have Luongo back in the national team! Great to see him in the Premier League with Ipswich Town.

So his coaching highlight was 10 years ago!! Surely we deserve better than an unemployed A League coach.

Probably the best Australian available, a very driven person.UNKNOWN at international level and has to hit the ground running.Socceroos needed a fresh approach, the last 2 games were nothing short of disasters.

We should’ve gotten Hervé Renard in my opinion

I can see a vastly improved defensive performance under the former Sydney United and Crystal Palace skipper.
Big Souttar stands to benefit the most under Popa.
May be a place for a Degenek return?
Popa has no issue cutting players if they don't fit his plan.
He's a hard and stern taskmaster. which is the medicine we need.
    Also, good punditry. Cheers.

Australia really lacked aggression in those two games, they need to get it back. To do that, the squad needs to have the 3 '"f's" be Fit, Fast, and (in) Form. I think a 4-3-3 would be much better, using attacking full backs overlapping to provide width and help overload the defence and giving the centre forward some support and options from the inside forwards cutting in from the wing, helping break down teams that 'park the bus'. Push the entire squad up the pitch and force the game to be a physical 1 on 1 contest the entire 90 + minutes.

I hope he does well for the Socceroos, as someone who played for my favourite club, makes it even more so for the fact. Be intrested to see how this goes.

Max Balard and Josh Nisbet need to be in his first squad, both have hit the ground running in Europe

I understand that many passionate Socceroos fans are feeling underwhelmed with this appointment.
However, as James Johnson stated in the press conference, there is a short turnaround time ⏲️ until the October WC Qualifying window 🪟 and so Football Australia 🇦🇺 ⚽️ needed to act quickly and swiftly to make this permanent appointment happen rather than having an interim coach stepping in after Graham Arnold's exit.
I agree that it hasn't been the best start to Round 3, but there's still enough time to turn this around and qualify automatically.
We've all got to back Popa and get behind him rather than being all negative and glum. He'll come into the role with a fresh set of eyes 👀 and a new coaching philosophy.
Don't give up on the Socceroos now, people. They need our support.

He wasn't my first pick, but I don't think he is a bad pick. He will at least know of the players available and not have to rely on others as much for selection.

china will be the best glift to him because they are so weak. but Japan is the most horrible enemy to socceroo as they never lose socceroo 15 years so far as well as they destroied china 7:0 at home and Brahain 5:0 away. It will be most tough game to socceroo if they keep defeating Saudi Arab away next month. By the way, west asian countries weather and referees will become another struggle point to Tony. That's the first time he coaching the national soccer team and only 2 weeks left to next tourments against china and Japan. Honstly, that's the risk decision for soocer association to employ the coach who just have experience to soccer clubs.
