- In this quick day trip, myself and Jack work an old gold mining creek for placer gold deposits. I wouldn’t say this is an overland video but at one point we did engage four wheel drive, so you can say we did a little off-roading. Planning to start incorporating the overland hobby with gold mining throughout Arizona.
You are amazing son, and just think I brought you up. You are all about the outdoors just like I am. I guess some day you'll just have to bury me out there. Now I know where you got it from. Ed and I were just across the road from you scouting for our pig hunt coming up. You sure got a lot accomplished in one day. Amazing. Love you, Pa!!❤
i can certainly credit you for my knowledge and love of everything outdoors. you and i need to make a special trip out to see grandad soon.
This is awesome! This is my back yard and was just there on Saturday!
🎶 track? It’s *An Old Shadow of Mine* by *Headlund* - and yes we are THRILLED to be your trusted provider.

I carry a pan in my Jeep TJ. A few years ago a buddy got a small sluice and we went out by the lost Dutchman mine. We found a bunch of old bullets and took them to an expert and he said they were old Calvary era bullets. No gold but pretty cool pieces of history.
No kidding, even if it has no real value, I see it’s beauty
Cool vid. Looks like a fun way to spend a day exploring promising places.
Definitely, we still need to get out Doug!
Good video!
I went prospecting in Box Canyon a few weeks ago. I found a flake of silver in some ore rock and a bunch of copper ore minerals like Bornite, Pyrite, citrine and even amethyst. It was close to the abandoned Arrastra Mine. Greaterville has a lot of gold and it’s not far from Rosemont which makes sense why it’s so mineral rich. The Santa Ritas also have one of the largest deposits of copper in North America.
It’s definitely mineral rich. I’ll be heading back out there to chase that deposit again. Do you have a metal detector?
@@Whitedogoverland Awesome! Sadly I don’t. :( I pulled over on a pullout on Box Canyon road and chiseled a cliff face with a rock pick and got some really cool ore rocks. I wish I could go out to Gardner canyon and check out that creek and mine! I’ll have to go soon!
@@Whitedogoverland If it’s accessible to 2WD vehicles I’ll have to go check it out!
Love this! Love to see Mt. Wrightson with snow on it. What a thrill! Thanks Cody.
Always wanted to try gold panning since our field trip to Sutters Mill in the 4th grade was cut short.
I like these videos. Never had a thought to get out and pan, until now I live in Northern California near the Oregon border we have some pretty epic places where they used to mine for gold I might have to pick up some gear and try it out.
You live in prime gold panning country. California still has huge deposits. I’m more of a detector type of prospector but panning is a ton of fun
what is the Superbowl lol
you choose wisely
I've prospected that area in the 90s and the early 2000s. Good area. Wish I could get out there again.
Yo, me and my kiddos were in that same exact spot last summer, had no idea the Santa Rita's produced gold. We missed you by a day (day before the superbowl) we were on the westside of the range in madera canyon. Never seen that much snow on the Santa Rita's.
it was pretty insane to see snow in such low elevation. wonderful area thoug!
Great videos. This is my backyard. We should do a camp!
Always down! You in instragram?
@@Whitedogoverland I am not. You can get my email on the bio page.
Hey Cody would it be possible to share the route you took, we were actually out in that area last weekend. The area you went to looks pretty cool.
Not much to the this route man, just followed gardener canyon along cave creek all the way to the end!
@@Whitedogoverland okay buddy, thank you!! Great video as always!
This is exciting different and
Is there alot of dispersed camping in Chiricahao national Monument area? I'll be out there end of February.
not in that area specifically but further south and up turkey creek rd!
You guys don't use metal detectors to help you in finding the gold? That is another of my hobbies when I am not exploring, camping, fishing and shooting. Are you a member of GPAA? or any of the local MD clubs?
Actually just picked up a minelab gpx 800 today. Just got myself a membership to desert gold diggers, next up with be gpaa. Pretty stoked to get this detector out
Very cool. I have the Minelab Equinox 800, I am learning how to use it for gold. Right now I am more of a coin and relics hunter.
Im a geologist and im currently studying the santa rita mountains, do you look for fossils too?
No but I should keep my eyes out, I’m sure they’re everywhere I just don’t usually look
It would be funny if you cut the filming short. Say you didn't find any gold and the next episode your in your new Earth Roamer. 😂
if only...
