  • Just an update on my ongoing projects on the layout. No ranting...🙄
    I continue work on my engine depot adding and weathering a set of fuel tanks to the yard, amongst other bits and pieces.

    Hi Graham, thank you for the video, the layout looks amazing, I feel your pain with the glasses thing, I knocked my brew all over my granddaughters work in lockdown working from home🤣, as if things weren't bad enough, keep up the amazing work, Pete.👍

    I am a first time viewer of your channel, I absolutely love the concrete. I'm going to go back through your channel and see t if you showed how to make the concrete like that. It almost reminds me of slate, but you can tell it was concrete right away and having poured concrete for a living in a past life, I appreciate the cuts you made in the concrete. Some people forget to add that part. Aĺl of it is well done!

      It's actually air dry clay, you can buy it from Hobbie Craft. They do a few colours. I used grey. Great to work with. If you look at the update I did called hard standing for the loco shed. You can see how I made the concrete hard standing. Welcome to the channel I hope you enjoy watching. Atb Graham 🙂 👍

    Hi Graham.
    Superb layout.
    Great concrete base, yet to decide how I'm going to do mine.
    Porter cabin set the yard off Great.
    We had lots of workers in our yard at times when track work needed doing. Your figures look brilliant, as does the station they are on.
    Good luck with the weathering.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Hello Graham, I criticised your engine shed in your previous video saying it looked too big. I knew you would find a way of improving the whole area and by moving the porta cabins to a different place and using that area for the storage tanks has been the solution, looks spot on now, Bill.

    • @WHP1980s
      @WHP1980s  5 месяцев назад

      I removed the plinth on the shed after realising it was too high now it's on the hard standing. Porta cabins were only there while the builders were on site. 😉 And I found something better to go in front of the roof truss.😁 nothings built in stone on a layout, all changeable.
      Thanks for watching, cheers 👍

    It's looking great Graham, that hard standing looks excellent and the small depot looks the business.
    There you go, you can tell everyone your a male model now. I do hope that man on the depot, then on the station, was with his missus and not the fancy bit😂😂 unless your in big trouble mate 😮. I was gonna suggest some down lights on the outside of the shed but you wont need them, with the yard light. Maybe consider adding a rubbish skip and some bins but dont over fill that space, less is more in my opinion. Also before I forget, did you add the father n son on the brute, on the end of station platform. I forgot to look. However, Another great watch. Thank you for sharing Graham. I eagerly await the next installment.

      Cheers mate for the great comment. I still have the father and son scene to do once I find the correct candidates in 3d print. But thanks for the reminder. As for the lady next to me on the station she is my first and only love since the age of 18. Will take care not to over clutter the yard. Many thanks Mickey atb Graham 🙂👍

      @@WHP1980sAh good on you putting the love of your life on the layout too. I hope it doesnt sound like I'm hassling you about the brute, I genuinely thought I'd missed it. My apologies, if it comes over that way, it certainly wasnt meant like that.😊

      No problem, Mickey, I was definitely going to add that to the scene as I thought it was a great idea. Thanks for reminding me. I have put wheels in motion now, and it's on the to-do list, mate. Got any suggestions as to where to place them, bearing in mind my station set up? On the main station looking across, engine depot somewhere or at the end of the RM depot platform 🤔 not sure about their view from there, though. Look forward to making this happen, atb Graham 🙂

      @@WHP1980s it has to be the depot end of the platform Graham. Everyones eyes would be peeled to see stuff going on and coming off the depot. The odd photographer would be at that end too. Look at old videos of Crewe and Bristol Temple Meads. There'd be loads at the depot end platforms.

    • @mickeybarrass3625
      @mickeybarrass3625 5 месяцев назад +1

      The middle platform, I think is where most would congregate.

    Graham whilst using the Tamyia weathering powders I have an old egg cup on my modelling desk (in my loft) which I place a small amount of water in to assist with blending in the powders, I done this because I once licked my fingers whilst blending in and it left a horrible taste in mouth (lol) how we learn by our mistakes. Regarding the lighting as soon as you said about reaching and knocking `things` over I thought the same as you about placing it in the area next to the fuel tanks. On the engine/maintenance shed I brought 1.5mm LED's drilled the light fittings on my shed and fitted them with the wiring covered from view inside the shed. Would a matt varnish over the yard area dim the shine reflection, thanks for sharing enjoyed the short running section take care regards Barry. 👍

      Cheers Barry, good idea with the egg cup. As suggested by Concorde the shiny concrete looks like a rainy day. Will still be attempting to tone it down a bit. Thanks for watching mate, atb Graham 🙂👍

    Putting in the false wall works perfectly to give depth whilst hiding the roof truss behind the fuel tanks without drawing the eye away from them. Weathering looks good. Did you prime them when you bought them or just weather over how they came?. Modelu figure looks a good job. Is that a modelU of your wife next to you on the platform?… or did you just buy her online 😆 Keep up the good work.

    • @WHP1980s

      I sprayed the tanks with a grey primer before weathering them. Yep that's the wife by my side, but I sought of did by a new version of her on line via Modelu. Got a backup as well in case she breaks 🤔😁 cheers 👍

    Graham, give everywhere a quick coat of matt varnish from a rattle can, especially where your vegetation is, as it very shiny, but watch the running rail👍

    • @WHP1980s
      @WHP1980s  5 месяцев назад

      It's the PVA I sealed the clay with that gave the shine. I've already taken the shine away by rubbing it down with fine sand paper post filming. But I will add a flat coat of varnish to the vegetation as you are quite right, that's still shiny. In some ways it just looked like a rainy night. And we've had plenty of those lately, 😁 cheers👍
