    Matt, another great lesson. You nailed all the important points. You are wealth of knowledge, with sensible and very honed and practical skills, and your compassion for your students makes you a gifted teacher. You also know that dangerous predators are real, and that self-defense is a serious and potential "life and death" matter. I learned that some years ago myself. So thank you for your many years of dedication and the valuable lessons you give to all of us.

    There is one wonderful thing I can say about you when you and all the other cane people trained and give out such a vicious beating. In a bad spot on occasion or some of your students do the rest of the world sees somebody who didn't train and they have a hesitation and maybe it takes a little time to come over there and decide that maybe they don't want to steal from this one.

    If you are out of condition, your body has about 30 seconds of non-aerobic output, before you are gonna need aerobic performance. Make those first seconds count, for self defense.

    These videos are all excellent, but this one is the best I’ve seen in the collection. So much information is delivered in an understandable way and reinforced with examples. Great Job!
    BTW-Are you still selling the (hard to find ) Rattan canes; they’re not at canemaster and I can’t find the link mentioned in another video. Thanks for your good and needed work in this increasingly dangerous time in America.

    I would imagine the main benefit in regular twirling of the cain is training the hands and brain to adjust and control the cane in unnatural movements required for the actions that occur defending ones self. With out those basics,as a minimum, in cane control,it will be lost from your grip in the 1st minute of action.

    I don't think the spinning is entirely useless. If you practiced it and you could strike from a spin it would be very difficult to predict and see. Also if you had good cane spending habits and you were someplace that was pitch Black, that spinning could be kind of like a sensor and anybody that reach that you at least you know somebody was there before he touched you. I do agree though anything you can do the spinning the handling that makes that cane dance in your hands. Is great for you all around.

    Spins as in other impact weapons are not strikes but can be used to cause an attacker to back off , flinch and can be used to gain momentum and prime or chamber your weapon for a more powerful strike.

    What wood can you please recommend, for a light but durable cane?
    My research says Hickory is lighter and sturdier. But Oak seems like a popular wood to use and mentioned it was lighter.
    Thank you for your time sir/
    Ian

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  3 года назад +5

      Hickory can be stronger but a lot of hickory I have used will break because it is too dry. I like white oak because it takes the oil really well, and if you oil your cane every week it will stay very strong and flexible.

    Seems that many canes are too long, awkward and no credibility for some persons. How to choose best length to trim to? And what oil for various woods? Thanks.

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  3 года назад +1

      Mineral oil is good for all wood. Measure your cane to your wrist as it sits naturally when fully extended next to your body.

    you make some good points. however in other cane youtube videos It was suggested to use small quick motions you say to deliver a powerful swing. but how do you get a powerful swing from a small movement and from the other side how do you not telegraph your strike if you go all out? I think i like the idea of increasing your speed as you continue to strike in training and that might be part of the answer but I don't know enough to be sure

    To what extent is carrying a cane something that might *draw* crooks to you, because they think you’re an easy mark? For someone who isn’t in any way disabled, could it actually increase the chance you’ll get attacked / robbed / whatever?

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  Год назад +1

      Body posture, where your eyes are looking, if you have shoulders drawn forward, are more likely to give off signals to a predator that you are an easy target. More so than carrying the cane. If you move in a confident way, Eyes level with the horizon, shoulders back and down, stomach up and in, then even the cane won’t make you look like an easy victim and you are likely to repel a predator. Many studies show this too.

    Sure would be a nice addition during your tips on where to strike and disable,that we all need to consider what prosecutors will use against you for using the tips. Much like shooting someone. It better be convincing that the weapon, and the,damage(strike areas) you do justify(to the atty and jury) your claim to inflict such damage. The attys will expertly,politically or not,learn if your claim is justified. Right or wrong,I wouldnt want to be subject to the reasoning of the law or the public. So when to be especially careful of using various strikes and when not to. Again,certain strikes will require extra justification by "you" when defending yourself.

    Matt I think a smarter idea would be keep crook facing you below waste keep arm straight drive crook just below belly button. Better they don't see Cain. Important they don't see best to start low shots crook facing out keep Cain low, then follow up doing other hits as secondary. Never let them see the Cain. Or hit nuts or just below belly button. By spearing crook to just below belly button or nuts fast an hard

    WTF, I’d rather use a 12 gauge, works every time, what happens if the bad guy has a 9mm? The stick going to stop that? At the very least I’d carry a shovel, a number 12 shovel will beat the cane every time.
