I made a mistake with my first walking stick. I was departing a shuttle bus at Gatwick airport and used my suitcase case on wheels as a walking stick. I stand there as the bus pulls away thinking, my walking stick where’s my walking stick. Whoops it’s still on the bus. Lesson learned I now have a cord on my stick with a loop for my hand to pass through so I don’t leave another stick behind.😂

@@CaneMasters-WalkingCanes you misunderstood the course of events I’m afraid. I entered the bus with a suit case on wheels and a walking stick, I departed the bus accidentally leaving my stick on the bus whilst using my suit as a stick. Now I was stuck with having to use the wheeled case to aid my journey to the very expensive airport shop to purchase a substitute walk stick all be it to short 🤬😱😤😂 had I not used the wheeled case in that manner, I’d still have my walking stick🤕

I wish I saw this video before last weekend. My cane was on my weaker right side. My foot dragged me to the sidewalk and I went to the hospital ER had 11 stitches and 3 wounds. Had to get CT-Scan and over night stay. Rehab is scheduled and a reaction to the iodine contrast now.
Well now I know. My mom in law struck her head on her walker and had a hematoma of the brain and died a week later. 😳

For 10 years I've been using my cane wrong. Not a word from my doctor on what side height or how to use it what so ever. I used to do a lot of hiking off-roading and exploring of mines in Az. After being broadsided on my motorcycle 8 breaks in the left leg and foot alone. I was forced to use a cane but could only walk about 100 yards before the got to much for my arms. And it has really been taken a toll on my body. Thank you. I have more confidence in using my cane again. Will definitely try your method. Have a great day.

OK, I don't go along with the idea of using the cane opposite the leg that is weak. If I use it thus then after a very short distance I end up with a leg that screams at me. So I use my cane on the same side as my injury, that way I'm able to help the weak leg by giving it extra support. Your way seems to be taught in PT departments across the land but in my opinion it makes very little sense.

I had to use a cane for more than a year. Your handle is unfamiliar to me. I used a Fritz handle, and with that handle the short end is definitely toward the front. I tried it the other way to compare, and when the hand is forward with the forefinger around the front of the shaft, under the shorter projection, the weight is aligned with the shaft as you correctly state it should be.
One advantage to the Fritz handle which I discovered is that it is comfortable when placed under the armpit. This is important when one's legs are too weak to get up from the floor or ground without an assistive device. A cane alone is sufficient to get to a standing position.

Thank you for sharing your experience with using a cane with the Fritz handle. It's interesting to hear about your preference for the short end being toward the front and the ergonomic advantages it provides. I cannot put any kind of weight or pressure with my hand facing at a 90° angle from my wrist or it is bone on bone on the lunate.

My weak left leg from childhood never needed help till the "good" leg was partially paralyzed from a blood clot un treated till too late to recover. With two legs weak from knee down, my best side to hold the cane seems to be my strongest (right) hand. My favorite cane has a palm rest. I didn't know it was a palm rest and I'll try using it with the "horn" forward. To whom it may concern, my blood clot resulted from my "good" leg filling with waste muscle material, a normal result from over use. After a day cutting firewood, I had severe weakness and pain, after a week becoming total paralysis. Several (so-called) Doctors only provided pain meds. Anyone experiencing similar is advised to find a Doc who didn't sleep thru the lesson about leg clots and compartment syndrome. Medication to dissolve clots and possible surgery is the ONLY hope of full recovery. After a couple weeks it's too late, muscle deteriorates and paralysis becomes permanent. Worst case is gangrene and loss of the limb so don't take it lightly.

I'm quite damaged lately and need a cane in each hand to walk.
A few times I've dropped one of the canes while trying to open a door, answer my phone... whatever.
This is a bad scenario if there is no kind person around to pick up my cane for me.
Picking something up from the ground is a really long, painful and embarrassing experience.
I'm trying to figure out a good solution that doesn't involve me being leashed to my cane and doesn't look I'm walking around with two trash grabbers.
Just some trick little skyhook type thing attached to four feet of one millimeter dyneema cord that takes up little pocket space.
    Just thinking out loud....
    I dunno.

Money is not the consideration. The consideration is the quality of the cane and your ability to use it. A pro doesn't complain about how expensive the golf club is. He chooses the finest tool he can. Let's say you spend 500 dollars. You use your cane for ten years. That's 50 bucks a year. that's 12.50 for three months. That's about four bucks a month. One dollar a week to have the best cane in town. Don't sound so expensive now does it? You spend more on coffee ☕. You get what you pay for. I'm going to have to use a cane because of a disability. I'd like to be able to rely on it in case of emergency. Thank you. Be safe 🙏

Thank you for sharing your perspective. We completely understand the importance of quality when it comes to a tool as essential as a cane, especially for individuals with disabilities who rely on it daily. Investing in a high-quality cane that lasts for years not only ensures reliability but also provides peace of mind, particularly in emergency situations. Your analogy with the cost of a golf club is quite fitting - professionals understand the value of investing in the best tools for their needs. We appreciate your insight and wish you safety and reliability in your cane usage. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. Take care. 🙏

Just discovered your videos. I watched with interest as you describe 3 "mistakes" to avoid. I'm afraid I must throw the BS flag on your reason #2. I have a bad right knee, I carry my cane in my right hand. Why you may ask, because I also have a very serious injury to my left hand. To make onesie fits all comments like "you must Darry the cane in the opposite hand to your impaired leg is, at best, misleading.
Other than that, well done. I'd be interested in seeing more about your self defense canes. Be warned, I may be a bit critical as I was impact weapon certified in a former life. Cheers.

  • @RicksterX-92fs
    @RicksterX-92fs 7 месяцев назад

Nope. The cane must be used on the injured side of the leg or hip. Using it on the opposite side of the injury shifts your torso weight over to the injured leg. I had a bad injury to my right leg and the nurse also thought incorrectly and said to use the cane on the left side. Excruciating pain resulted. Shifting to the injured right leg allows your right arm to bear the weight of your torso. I was on a cane for over a year. I absolutely know what I’m talking about. Stop telling folks to use the cane on the “good” side. That makes zero sense. It’s to be used to support your injured side! If both legs are weak then use your strongest arm.

We appreciate your interest in our Cane Masters! While our canes don't currently come with a shoulder carry strap, we understand the convenience of having one for situations where you don't need to use the cane constantly.
For a DIY solution, you can consider using a universal shoulder strap typically used for bags or cameras. These straps usually have adjustable lengths and can be attached to the cane with clips or loops. Alternatively, you could explore outdoor gear stores for specialized hiking stick shoulder straps or rifle sling adapters, as you mentioned.
When attaching the strap, ensure it's securely fastened to the cane to prevent any accidents. Experiment with different lengths and positions to find what works best for you in terms of comfort and accessibility.

I bought hickory with heart canes from you a few times. Last time I bought three raw stock canes from you and soaked them in pure Tung oil for over a year.
It makes them solid and gives them weight. The last one soaked for over 5 years.
Those were my favorite canes and I was sad to lose the last one.
I read about someone breaking one of your whittled down sword canes in a fight on a bus, and I believe that if I win fight with a wooden sword it could go bad on me in court; so I prefer raw stock.
The only problem I had with your canes is, they all arrived with the hook spread much wider than the cane you used in this video, and the spread keeps growing...
So I've been buying heavy duty oak canes with tourist handles from Fashionable Canes.
I'd rather have hickory and would like to buy a few more canes from you and soak em in oil again.
Can you please help me out with finding raw stock canes with the crooks that are bent like the ones you use?
