About Nep..
Neps are those little fluffy cotton bits that pop up on the surface of denim. To make a neppy denim, you've gotta weave it using neppy yarn. This yarn isn't perfect and has these little cotton flecks, knots, and bumps all over. And when woven, they show up as neps in the fabric, adding some visual appeal.
Back in the day, these neps were considered defects, and with better yarn spinning and finishing techniques, they got phased out. But now, intentionally creating neppy denim is what you’ll find among specialty denim producers. They purposely use "imperfect" yarns to create a fabric that's unique, full of character, and possesses a quality that for the most part has been lost over time.

Drew, for the Okinawa's try hot washing them to shrink them. I'm not sure if you bought sanforized or not but you can hot wash them to shrink them about an 1" or more. Also for sizing, it's a weird game since it depends on if they are one wash or not + how much they stretch since every fabric is different.
Yooo Nana is my all time favourite manga/anime!! Absolutely amazing characters. Brace yourself for some of the coolest fashion in manga eveeer, so much Vivienne Westwood (Ai Yazawa’s characters always have great styling imo)

The samurai jeans are top tier! Cuffing any selvedge jeans is of course optional but even a tiny bit looks very nice!

Loved the video. I've been wanting to start my Selvedge denim journey and there are so many cool brands out there, like the ones you mentioned, Benzak, Momotaro, Onidenim and a very long etc. i'll probably start with a couple of Benzak pick ups (a pair of denim jeans an a pair of Chinos).

13:10 you are correct. I tried that pair of Samurai’s on at their flagship store in Osaka. They’re made with a blend of cotton that includes some grown by Samurai themselves. What a lovely pair! I would’ve copped, but I wasn’t on board with only 50% natural indigo.

Just wanted to say thank you, Drew. I’ve got a similar body type to you, not as tall, but I’ve got more happening in the thighs and butt (from weightlifting, being black lol). And seeing you struggle and finding fits of denim that suit and complement your body type has encouraged me to do the same.

You killed it this time drew!! You really pulled a surprise on me. I was following your shorts, and I believe you only showed the Samurai jeans so expecting one or two maximum, but four?!! my favorite looking jean is probably the Samurai although I like how the Strong Guy fits more. All and all great pick ups dude.
Also about the manga Takehiko Inoue is one of the best mangakas period. You gotta read Vagabond, also he has another manga/anime called Slam Dunk, which you would probably know what its about from the title its one of my favorites (Guys have very cool fits too, they always dripping lol). NANA I believe is Musical manga but the fits are hard in it. The Mangaka uses Vivienne Westwood and other punk/grungy brands and aesthetics of the time as reference. A great pick for a fashion enthusiast like you.

I picked up a Samurai type 2 denim jacket from the same Indigo Plus line! The material is insane, gonna be interesting to see how it fades.
Those Samurai’s are dope. My gf recently bought me a pair of the Old Blue Co. x Samurai collab from Standard and Strange. They’re amazing!

Great pickups! I wouldn't say I am true denim head but here are some brands you should check out! Samurai's are great, but I like these brand a tad better as they break into your body well:

Id love to see you explore more into a fade honeycomb type of denim. Wear a pair of jeans as much as possible but wash it as less as possible to create those beautiful fade lines. Also maybe do like an update every 6 month or so, i think itd be an interesting thing to talk about

Love the selvedge, ive got a few from a brand called korra in india. Buying 4 at once is not a great idea tho, id commit to fading one pair before moving to another but if you like the raw look and youre looking for more, get a pair of visvim raw denim, the cuts are more fashion forward like your yohjis.
I don't advise anyone to buy 4 at once that's for sure, but! I think the value I can gain from actually owning the denim vs just passively knowing about them is far greater
I back Korra 100%. You can choose the exact dimensions you want & materials. It's not pricey either. Also, @DrewJoiner don't worry about your pairs fitting large, they'll shrink 5%ish after the first few washes
Do remember, even on a cold wash soak/wash these can shrink a full size! had mine for a full year before first wash, and they shrunk a size and a half.

Best month for me is a toss up, either October because my Birthday or December because i love Christmas and the whole build up for Christmas. Worst month or months is honestly from Jan-Sep because i have to wait he whole first half of the year to get close to the dates i really like 😂

The same situation happened to me too, where I had to get mine tailored after 1-2 days of wear. My issue was the hip was getting too loose so it looks like I am wearing a diaper

Hi Drew DO NOT TAILOR THE OKINAWAs YET, do a hot soak first and then if they are not to your size then definitely get them tailored after 👍
my most fav month is December bc it’s my bday month & bc Christmas is my fav holiday!! & my least fav month has been October since 2021 bc i lost one of my fav cousins that year at the beginning of that month & so every time that date comes, it gets pretty tough for me & i just be ready for that month to be over already… sorry to be so dark but yea lol

Watched the 100 days same denim video too. Did the Sugar Canes fit better on you eventually? I bought the same pair, also at Self Edge, also sized up 2 on the waist. They fit kinda like they're on you around the hip (some extra fabric puffing up). Did they eventually get better, or did you get them tailored? They looked great on you on your other video.

The organic cotton is organic Japan grown! Dude literally got a field and grew cotton! I’ve got the samurai book of 5 rings water denim and I’m going for high contrast fades with it. Really interesting denim at 17 oz. But where samurai stand out is the insane hardware I watched mine for 2 years before pulling the trigger one them when they went on special

Momotaro natural indigo hand loom denim. Made on an old kimono loom by hand with a hand woven sashiko patch. With Silver buttons it’s the most hilariously over the top thing ever

Yo! I remember desperately wanting that Lego set as a kid. I would go down to the toy store in Granville island (Vancouver) and beg my parents to get it, but they were like nah, its way too big you would never finish building it (true). Might just have to get back into Legos now as an adult lol

thanks for the interesting commentary, but, and perhaps this was addressed somewhere already, I found it confusing when you were speaking of the pair of Naked and Famous jeans, and you do not differentiate between the style/fit (which were Strong Guy), and the fabric (which was Dirty Fade). That might have been formatted in another way.
Raw denim has a tendency to stretch a little especially in the waist, and then shrink back on a wash. I'd rock a belt and wait for the first wash before getting your jeans tailored.
