- Moe Greene in The Godfather was a hanger-on with the Winter Hill Gang (Whitey Bulger)of the Boston area. His nickname was Bobo Petricone. An unwanted advance toward Petricone's then girlfriend on Labor Day, 1961, touched off the Boston Irish Gang War of the 1960s. Georgie McLaughlin, who made the advance, was beaten by Winter Hill Gang members.
When he returned to the Boston area in 1972 to play a bank robber in the film The Friends of Eddie Coyle, Petricone - now styled "Alex Rocco" - set up a meeting between Robert Mitchum and local Irish-American gangsters to help Mitchum research his part as Eddie Coyle, a low-level Irish-American criminal. Rocco introduced Mitchum to Howie Winter, leader of the Winter Hill Gang.
The series that Alex is talking about lasted one season and was called "SIBS".
Alex died in 2015. The cause was pancreatic cancer.
I’m Moe Greene! I made my bones when you were going out with cheerleaders
That line was a little more raw in the book: "I'm Moe Greene! I killed more men than you before I could jerk off!"
I'm Freeo Corleone! I banged waitresses two at a time while you were making your bones
Think of a price.
CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!
@@ricarleite hey draw chips for everybody in the room so they can gamble on the house
You don't buy Alex Rocco out. He buys you out.
Yeah, he was making his bones in the business while you were out there, banging cheerleaders in high school.
do you know who i am?

@@matminds "I'm moe greene! I've made my bones when you were going out with cheerleaders!"
He has such a terrific screen presence, the voice and charisma that you would remember him even in the tiniest part. Literally everyone who watched the Godfather remembers Mo Greene. Him and John Cazale as Fredo are two most memorable and talked about performances in the movie, naturally aside from Pacino and Brando.
He should go back to the studio and redub the line "i talked to barsini"
Agreed. Why do they dub it like that to begin with, its stupid
@@Vaampe Im guessing when Moe said "I talked to Barzini..." his pronunciation on "talked" sounded too Bostonian, where Mr. Rocco was born and raised, thus the redub. If anything im surprised Coppola didnt fix the mistake where Moe takes the glass of ice water, moves it toward the middle of the table but then in next shot, glass is back where Moe's guy placed it...
@@rockbassrules Damn, ur right :O
@@rockbassrules he was banging cocktail waitresses to at a time players couldn't get a drink!!
Barzini
He should just have his name legally changed to Moe Green
and open a "Moe's Tavern" ?
And there isn't even a plaque, or a signpost or a statue of him in that town
They're talking cryptically of Benjamin (Bugsy) Seigel, the NYC mobster that built the first hotel-casino using mob money. His gf, Virginia Graham, made a habit
of stealing mob money and bugsy paid the price for it.
When he turned up dead, I let it go.
@@colkilgore100 Well known that Moe Greene is based on Siegel, and Johnny Fontaine on Frank Sinatra.
@@DowntownCanon And Don Corleone on Frank Bonanno.
@Rags Rocco Meh. Small potatos
For the few seconds he was on screen in the Godfather that scene was one of the most memorable.
So true. He was a good bit part, very memorable
It's a genius bit of acting from all of them. Cazale Pacino and Alex in particular.
You buy me out?? I buy you out!
jack mayhoffer I’m loving the comment section haha
@jack mayhoffer I talked to Barzini, I can make a deal with him and keep my hotel.
First of all your all done....The Colerone family dont have that kind of muscle anymore
This dude made his bones when I was still going out with cheerleaders.
10 dislikers need to be Straightened out.
And get their ass kicked
What if one of them is Mike's brother?
Make them an offer they can't refuse.
"You goddamn Guineas really make me laugh. I do YOU a favor, and take Freddy in when you're having a bad time, and then you try to push me out!"
Such a great, effortless and thoroughly believable line. That Rocco was Italian-American playing a Jew was lost on me for a moment 😏
Wait a minute, you took Freddy in because the Corleone family bankrolled your casino!
"He was banging two cocktail waitresses at a time! The players in the Casino couldn't get a drink! I have to kick some ass sometimes! "
I am leaving for New York, tomorrow. Think about a price.
And Sonny Corleone was played by a Jewish actor!
Do you know who he is? He's Alex Rocco. He made his acting bones while you were going out with cheerleaders.
Mike! You don't come to Las Vegas and talk to a man like Alex Rocco like that!

The true story - Bobo fled Boston with his life.

You straightened my brother out?
@@ricarleite he was banging cocktail waitresses, two at a time - players couldn't get a drink at the table! What's wrong with you?
Me and Moe are good friends, right Moe.
Im Moe Green i buy you out you dont buy me out..
This dude was a real Mobster from Somerville.....The real reason he left from Boston was because he was fleeing a Gang war......Alessandro petriconi........
they thought they could come to his hotel and take over. but he talked to Barzini. he got to make a deal with him and still keep his hotel.
You dont talk to man like Moe Greene like THAT!
The Chef cooked special for you and the Dancers will kick your tongue out! LOL.. Never heard anyone else say that other than Moe Green.
You goddamn guineas really make me laugh!
Love this actor. How in the world did he not get more good movies or T.V? Wicked good!
He should replace his right eye with a fake glass eye for old time sakes
This guy is an incredible actor
He was making his bones when we were dating cheerleaders!
You guys just killed itchy and scratchy lol
Mo Green seems to juxtapose the film producer at the beginning. Not Italian, says some derogatory stuff about guineas, more hard ass businessman than hoodlum. Maybe doesn't quite understand the hole he's digging for himself.
But unlike the film producer, he's not given a warning. Which is demonstrating that Mike is more ruthless than his father.
".....and your credit is good!"
Barzini got him the part on The Godfather... but got fired!!!
The early 60s, where people had several different jobs within a couple of years.. oh god how the times have changed. I wonder how these old legends wouldve made it in todays society.
Speaking of legends are you in a league of them?
The Corleone family don’t have that kinda muscle anymore!!!
What a charmer. So cool.
Lol at the list of jobs. I was a teamster with Irish hoods while you were going out with jocks.
An Italian....Bahai? I did NOT see that coming.
I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers. Oops sorry wrong movie!
Frankie two times Frankie two times.
Now go home and get your f*cking shinebox...

Nice interview. This man was OUTSTANDING as Moe Green in the Godfather. Frankly, he upstated Al Pacino.
In a shallow grave, southeast of Poughkeepsie…
Leonard Nimoy gave him some logical advice
the best part was the end when he said "we cut" seems like he was about to say the real story to her
It looked to me like he was going to kiss her.
Drinks are on the house and your credit is good!
RIP
"I ate one kilo of lemon pie and talked to Barzini"
I didn't ask who gave the order...because it hadn't NOTHING to do with business.
You don’t come to Las Vegas and talk to a man like Moe Green like that
I'm moe greene , I get shot in the face lol
You think you can come to my casino and take over?!!?!? I TALKED to Barzini...lol
Don't you know who I am ? I’m Moe Greene ! I made my bones when you were going out with cheerleaders , and seriously al Pacino was nobody that time.

He talked to Barzini!
I talked to barzini
Moe Greene? Pfff! There was never a greater Roger Meyers Jr.
Wow Jeremy irons really looks different these days
I thought he lost an eye in the shooting.
He was a former gangster in the Winter Hill Gang with James J Bulger
Not with Bulger, but with Howie Winter who was boss at that time.
Not true either .. when he was in Somerville Buddy McLean was the Boss.. He was never here then
Buddy sent Alex to California because he knew things were really gonna start getting dangerous and he didn’t want Alex to get hurt.
Howie winter only became boss after Buddy was killed in 1965
Alex was long gone and out of that scene by then
@@BillyL1212Buddy and Howie were partners
Don’t think there was a Boss there
The story doesn't make sense he said he got the job on Batman and thought this a good way to make money, then he studied but then when he talks about the telephone call he told her person I study for five years I can handle it... which came first make up your mind
He said he lied
He’s like the guys from Queens but for Boston. Always mentions Boston in everything. Lol. This is great.
Yes, you wait until this gifted actor has died before you make your inflammatory claim. I call B.S.
Boston/NY, either way, this guy always reminded me of one of my HS teachers who took no crap from nobody!
Sometimes I gotta kick asses
Alex Rocco isn't a MarteChristo? He is actually a Paisan?
"I won't watch your show, buy your products or brake if I see you crossing the street!!!"
It's Roger Meyers
I literally just found out about this guy while reading about Whitey Bulger.
There was actually another reason Rocco left Boston too but, we won't talk about that one...
I think he is skimming off the top tbh
Watched The Godfather for the first time now I’m hype
Time for Part II ;)
He talked to Barzini
Roger Myers
This is not Alex Rocco, this is Nick Calabrese
F cancer......RIP great actor

I talk to Barzini . Because it has nothing to do with business
Superb Actor .
