It's so hard to get out in the Texas heat! If I miss the early morning hours, I don't want to go outside until near sunset. The storm down south did bring a bit of rain and cooler temps our way, and thankfully nothing worse in our area.
Good morning. Sleeping in once in awhile is okay. Maybe your body and health needed it. So exciting to see the gladiolus planted and the big sunflowers. Enjoy the rest of your day.
I've never gotten gladiolus to bloom the first year. If yours blooms this year then I know I am planting them at the wrong time :D Love the broom! Can't wait to see how you use it in your Halloween decorations.
Hi. I had a tree that did that (gangly straight stems) heading to the sky. A plantsman said sometimes when a tree is stressed out it produces those. Obviously it went through a great deal during the storm. I watched your post-storm video. Hopefully it feels better soon. Maybe by spring…..
Everything is still growing and looking beautiful. Love the idea of the broom! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I’m excited to see you planting Glads & Suns I thought it was too late so I’m going to get them out today. I have some Indian Summer & Priscilla glads I got from Brecks.
I'm committed to never put Yarrow in my garden again. I have few areas with more than 5 hours of sun and it gets so tall and falls over, and I'm tired of staking plants!!
Working outside in the heat makes gardening 40 times harder. I can do about an hour in the morning here in Z8 Upstate South Carolina and that’s it. Mulch saves my garden at this time of year, actually most times of year. How are other gardeners doing?
The witch's broom is so cool and fun!!! My gladiolus some are blooming and others not so much, do they like lots of water? I was able to get a lot of perennials over the Holiday for $4 each super excited, getting ready for a heat wave though so not sure when they will get planted 😅
It’s super hot for planting right now, so only plant if you can water them regularly. My glads typically bloom within about 6 weeks of each other no matter the variety. You could step up your water to see what happens!
@shesamadgardener thanks! Yes, I plan on only planting a couple of the more heat tolerant perennials tomorrow right before a cool down and more rain. We have another heat wave starting this weekend and for next week.
I'm waiting to see the gladioli in bloom. Wonderful varieties you have chosen. Amanda, take care of your hands from soil and fertilizers. Maybe you should wear gloves.❤
I didn't go as deep with my glads and now that you mention deep for water retention I'm worried. Don't want to overrated and rot bulbs! Oh well will know better and did mulch. I read smoke bush is in poison ivy family and be warry of its juice. I am really allergic to poison ivy and had already bought two for shrubs. Will see what happens!!!😮
Toss some mulch on top of your bulbs if you want to help with water retention in this heat! I’ve never run into issues with the smokebush regarding rash and I’ve used it for years as a florist … but that doesn’t mean you would t have a reaction, so be careful!
🧹 💚. Some of those branches for a flower drying rack. After your last storm, staking the smoke bush. Rebar stakes are not pricey, are strong and are brown.
Love watching❤.
Thanks Michelle!
Sometimes, work in my garden seems overwhelming, too. You are so right; it is hot in Texas.
Agreed, it feels like such a heavy weight to work outside when it’s so hot.
Girl you are the answer to my problem with my smoke bush😊 I love what you are doing with the limbs💕💕💕💕
I'm so glad!
I love your channel cause you’re very practical and matter of fact about gardening.
Aww thanks!

Yes, the early morning and the late evening are the best times to go out.
Love the broom!
Thanks!

Mine usually bloom the first year … I typically plant them in early spring but this year and am doing succession planting to get blooms for the fall.

Mine always falls over as well, EVERY YEAR!

So stinking hot already this year!

I struggle with gloves … I don’t like the feel of them.

@@shesamadgardener I did mulch. Keeping fingers crossed. Hope you all survived heavy rains. Now comes the steam!

Great idea about the flower drying rack!
I have the exact issue happening on the back of my sunflower leaves. I was wondering what was happening.
I’m thinking aphids … but I’d rather them be on this sunflower plant than something else!
Love Gladiolus. If you don’t have drip how often would you water the bulbs. ☺️
In my climate, at least every other day and probably every day during our brutal temps.
@@shesamadgardener thank you. I’m just down the road from you. Plano.
