Holden, I swear, 1998 I’m watching this in the theater with my girlfriend. The scene at a the beginning when they’re chasing Jason Lee’s character and he gets on the bike. (The intensity of the scene has the theater dead quiet). He’s almost escaped on bike, and stupidly crosses over the median and gets hit by the fire engine… I burst out laughing so hard and embarrassed the crap out of everyone I’m with! So when you started laughing at it, you took me back 25 years!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣
The fact that Holden only knows Jason Lee from Alvin and the Chipmunks tells me he needs to watch some Kevin Smith movies. Specifically Mall Rats. I think he will very much relate to Jason Lee’s character 😂
This is one of those films that I enjoy a lot but don't really think about that often. However, Regina King's delivery of "I picked those drapes" has lived in my head rent-free since this movie came out, and will remain there until the day I die 🤣
A little correction: Michael Bay was heavily influenced by Tony Scott. “Bad Boys” and “The Rock” are the only films of Bay that didn’t use a green screen. Also, Tony Scott used very little special effects or CGI, unlike Bay (which is what he’s known for). Scott was a painter before he became a director (he started out doing a lot of commercial advertisements, along with his brother, Ridley), and he considered his films as paintings (the use of certain colors, etc). After “True Romance,” Scott has shown he can do character-driven films that were still commercially successful (crimson tide, enemy of the state, Deja vu, Man on fire, all whom were made by Disney). His collaborations with Don Simpson & Jerry Bruckheimer goes all the way to “Too Gun.” While Michael Bay is a great popcorn entertainment filmmaker, Scott was a action director whose films had substance.
Born and raise in DC, and yep, it definitely rains a ton here. We have a higher annual rainfall than Seattle, even though reputations might suggest otherwise. It’s probably the most accurate part of this movie’s representation of DC. A lot of it was shot here, but mostly establishing shots (outside of the bike/fire truck incident, which looks like it was filmed near DuPont Circle). Love this movie!
This and The Conversation from 1974 also with Gene Hackman make a great double feature. Then you get led down the conspiracy/thriller rabbit hole from the 70's, love them all. The Parallax View, Three Days of the Condor, All the Presidents Men, Capricorn One.
Jen, you did a great job hosting. Holden, it’s made clear during the film that Smith’s character is trying to just get his left back. And he succeeded.
Jen loves her government shadow group story lines... Consider reacting to the Richard Donner's 1997 action thriller "Conspiracy Theory" starring Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts, and Patrick Stewart.
I agree, I always thought this was an underrated movie. I remember seeing it in the theater. I didn't know that Will Smith agreed to do it for less than his usual pay because he wanted to work with Gene Hackman. I love it when actors have that much respect for another actor. Supposedly, Ocean's 11 was able to be made only because all the A-listers in the movie were so excited to be working together that they all agreed to work for less than their usual salary. You guys should watch Ocean's 11, if you haven't seen it yet. And, yes, definitely watch Air Force One.
I was lucky enough to watch this in the theaters. It was definitely ahead of its time, especially with regards to how omnipresent mass surveillance is now. I grew up before the Internet was a thing, so I was always old-fashioned when it came to giving out any information. Now people just post everything online, without a second thought... During the pandemic, I went back to college remotely and earned a couple more degrees, one of which was in Environmental Science. My favorite aspect was Remote Sensing, which basically involves using satellite images and the electromagnetic spectrum to analyze the Earth's surface. Spy stuff aside, this can be used to monitor the health of forests and crops, impact of climate change, etc. Currently, the highest resolution for a commercial satellite is 30 cm. Just imagine what the government has.
Man, I love this movie. It’s one I always forget about when asked about favorite movies but it really is up there on my list. Just excellent all around!
This is one of the movies of my childhood. We had cable on and off but a few VHS/DVD that stick out to me and I watched this one quite a bit. Hadn’t seen in 20 years tho and just watched because of your reaction. Still so good but that ending in the restaurant is just ridiculous
Fantastic pick Jen! This movie was really good. Great reaction guys 💪😎 If you guys haven’t seen The Island from Michael Bay, that’s another good one for a possible reaction.
We didn’t know it at the time, but this movie was foretelling the future. All of that, plus a ton, is more than possible now. As for the right to privacy, all humans have a fundamentally innate right to it, the US Constitution commits that to US law.
Not so much foretelling but more like revelation of the method. It's a tactic wherein they show you what they can do and what they are willing to do, oftentimes what they will immediately do. They do that basically to show their cards in the game and if you don't object than that absolves them of responsibility (in their minds) and go ahead with it. Hollywood is part of system that conditions the public mentality. If a movie is to display any faction the government then the government usually gets a say in how it's being presented to the public. As for the Constitution, you'd have to be really specific as to which one since their has been at least four variations of it since the original signing. The most recent was done very recently with the U.S., Canada and Mexico signing a North American Constitution.
This film is a gem. I am glad, it found the way on the channel. Yes, some parts are unbelievable, but the topic is relevant. I love this movie for that. Gene Hackman is my highlight.
This is one of the best spy thriller movies Ive ever seen.... a really great film! Eagle Eye with Shai Lebouf is another great one that reminds me of this one! That's worth a watch too!
Reynolds being burnt by having his credit cards cancelled later in the van and his grudging smile, (personally meaning "fair play you got me, I give you that.") to Will Smiths' burn "Credit card cancelled?" Can be a real pain in the ass." Never ceases to lol even Reynolds was impressed. 😂😂
Hey Holden and Jen! I am loving the idea of showing Holden Jen's favorite movies he hasnt seen. Just wondering if you guys are gonna watch Ant Man and the Wasp Quantumania. I know its not that well recieved but ut would be great to see you guys catch up with the MCU. Keep it up with the epic vids
...so, have you both seen "The Conversation" then? Hackman's character in Enemy of the State is like what he becomes after the end of The Conversation. It's an early Coppola thriller with a lot of great actors including a very young Harrison Ford (hubba hubba). You should check it out if you haven't seen it.
This is a fantastic (& massivly underrated) movie - glad to see someone react to it! Have either of you seen “The Newton Boys”? It’s another movie that gets missed - Matthew McConahay, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ethan Hawke, Skeet Ulrich, Dwight Yokam & Juliana Margulies Hope you give it a try!
This movie is kind of a meta sequel to Coppola's 1974 movie, The Conversation. In fact, the picture the government pulls up of Gene Hackman's character from his government file is actual a picture of Hackman from The Conversation. You should watch it.
Absolutely one of the most underrated movies I agree!! So damn good! If you want another one, not sure if you've seen it before, is Runaway Jury, which also stars Gene Hackman! Should definitely check that one out if you haven't!
I love how technology is portrayed in older movies set in the real world. I always just ignore it and accept “this is the technology available IN THE MOVIE, not necessarily irl”
Nice reaction Mr. Hardman. Watched a several of your videos. Anyway... 20:25 & 21:21 - The GREAT Turbo Grafx Express - the hand held version of the Turbo Grafx 16 console in a movie. I rented this movie outa ExtraVision, completely forgot about it and never left it back. If they never shut down i'd hate to see my bill.... And i'm guessing u guys never seen the series Banshee? Since u never noticed the girl in the lingerie store it seems like a good bet u haven't. It's got Antony (Homelander) Starr in it......sex, guns, violence, cops n robbers....everything u'd expect from Homelander. It got 4 seasons and finished without being cancelled. It's well worth the watch 👍

A movie that turned out to be non fiction
This film is a gem. I am glad, it found the way on the channel. Yes, some parts are unbelievable, but the topic is relevant. I love this movie for that. Gene Hackman is my highlight.
Great choice, Jen. I love this movie!!!
I agree with Jen, this movie is criminally underrated. Such a great movie.
In my elementary school year book this is listed as my favorite movie 😂
The look on Jen's face at 30:11 cracked me up when all hell breaks loose.
Always had a very high opinion of this film. And looking back all these years later it still holds up.
This is one of the best spy thriller movies Ive ever seen.... a really great film! Eagle Eye with Shai Lebouf is another great one that reminds me of this one! That's worth a watch too!
JEN SHOULD SHOW MORE MOVIES TO HOLDEN!
I went to high school with the girl that played Jon Voight's daughter. The girl that jumps on the couch saying "we're on tv!"
I love when Jen hosts!
Enemy of the State is a great film. A total classic 😎
Please Jen, for the love of all that is holy, have Holden watch Con-Air. It's a cinematic masterpiece. "Put... the bunny... back... in... the box."
LOL HOLDEN LAUGHING AT 9:36!
def. "The Conversation" should be watched as a primer for this film.
This is one of my favourite movies ever! Thank you for react to it.
It's one of my favourite films of all time. Looking back at the cast now and noticing how many familiar faces are all over the place.
Can't wait until they watch GOTG 3
This is one of those movies that I watched a lot on AMC during the cable days.
Such a fun movie def need to checkout the Conversation now : D
One of my fav films ever - really good with a superb cast. Will even recently, has some great films to his credit.
Oh wow. A nice classic. I like this dynamic of "makes sense Holden wouldn't have seen it, but still good Hollywood!"
Was literally writing a comment to ask if you'd seen The Fugitive just as Holden said exactly that 😅
This is a great classic movie, going forward I know Holden has seen 1917 but has Jen?
This is such a great movie, and it makes you think. Movie was made in the mid 90's, and the main villain was born on 9/11??????
"Oh my god, it's Gene Hackman."
One of the most interesting and exact movies in the present time. RIP tony Scott and Tom Sizemore
...so, have you both seen "The Conversation" then? Hackman's character in Enemy of the State is like what he becomes after the end of The Conversation. It's an early Coppola thriller with a lot of great actors including a very young Harrison Ford (hubba hubba). You should check it out if you haven't seen it.
This movie is a gem
This and Eagle Eye with Shia are both really good ..kinda same theme
Yes, Jen is right, an underrated and fantastic movie, RIP Tony Scott. Also one of the best movie shootouts ever. I'd recommend Man on Fire too
GREAT CHOICE JEN!
This movie is awesome. Tony Scott, my favorite director. RIP.
I remember wanting Scott Caan as Wolverine at one point... This is a good movie and a great reaction. .:)
This is a fantastic (& massivly underrated) movie - glad to see someone react to it!
Have either of you seen “The Newton Boys”?
It’s another movie that gets missed - Matthew McConahay, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ethan Hawke, Skeet Ulrich, Dwight Yokam & Juliana Margulies
Hope you give it a try!
Jen, the video game the kids were playing was Jet Moto on Ps1
Love this film. I agree. So underrated…
Fun fact... Arron Sorkin was a script doctor on this.
This movie is kind of a meta sequel to Coppola's 1974 movie, The Conversation. In fact, the picture the government pulls up of Gene Hackman's character from his government file is actual a picture of Hackman from The Conversation. You should watch it.
if you're looking for similar titles, I remember "Conspiracy Theory" being good, it's been a while
This is one of my favorite Will Smith movies. I even consider this a Christmas movie too.
Crazy that you've never seen this...This along with I Robot are a pair of Will's best that are rarely talked about
Yeah, I Robot is a pretty good film. I’d like to see someone do a reaction to that.
Every time I use my blender I think of this movie lol. Such a classic.
Tech the government hasn't acknowledged yet
Ok I hope this is not weird but I have an question to ask you. Are you a boy or a girl?
I don't comment much but WOW Holden hasn't seen this??? Great movie Jen! This will be a fun watch
I'm here for Mrs. Hardman.
Nice reaction Mr. Hardman. Watched a several of your videos. Anyway... 20:25 & 21:21 - The GREAT Turbo Grafx Express - the hand held version of the Turbo Grafx 16 console in a movie. Guessing ONLY a few of your subscribers know this. Haven't looked at your older vids... how about Forbidden Planet (1956) or Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). Take care.
Y'all need to watch Heist, with Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito, Sam Rockwell, Delrey Lindo, Rebecca Pigeon, and Ricky Jay.
Written and directed by David Mamet.
I’ve always loved the ending to this movie. I nvr saw it coming until they got to the restaurant. Brilliant! Top 5 will smith flick
Edit: oh and damn Regina king so fine 😩 and aging like wine
HOLDEN THOMAS HARDMAAAN.... You said she was from Daddy's Dare Care. That's REGINA KING she's An allstar from Boys in The hood, Friday, Watchmen, Ray, Down to Earth, Seven Seconds, AND SHE WAS RILEY AND HUEY in THE BOONDOCKS.
I have seen the movie a few times and it's one of my favorite movies of all time. I had no idea Tom Cruise was supposed to be the main character.
I love the thumbnail ❤️
One of my fav movies, this is probably my most watched film with someone else.
