Florida State is in the same boat as Tennessee, Michigan, Nebraska, Miami, Texas, and USC as 90s/2000s Powerhouses that fell off big time. I hope Norvell succeeds, my high school classmate played for him at Memphis
Your so right about that. And the number one reason why these traditional powerhouse programs that were so dominant in the 90’s and 2000’s is recruiting. High ranked 5 star recruits from Georgia, Ohio, California, Florida and Texas are not going to those schools. They are going to Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Norte Dame primarily. The starting quarterbacks from Clemson and Alabama are from Los Angeles. In the past they would have definitely went to USC.
You idiot I don’t know why y’all keep trying to slide Michigan in with them other schools, Michigan is stable and on track. 5 star True freshman QB, 5 star True Freshman RB ready to take over. Texas, Miami, FSU and Nebraska are a mess. Michigan is light years ahead of them. Whole new Defensive staff just added this year got them boys flying to the ball on the defensive side
@@misterceo2168 Bro I’m not trying to shit on Michigan but the reality of the situation is that they haven’t been dominant since Tom Brady left and for the past 2 decades, they’ve been getting their asses whooped by Ohio State. I want Michigan to be dominant because it’s better for college football. I’m tired of seeing the same teams in the playoff every year.
Tagg’s Era was 21 games, he took over a losing program from Jimbo. He didn’t have the chance to coach his only recruiting class. If FSU go 6-6 Norvell will have the exact same record as Tagg. Jimbo left FSU in bad shape and the last 3 recruiting class of Jimbo was trash
LOL blame Jimbo for everything as usual. Shows the lack of intelligence FSU fans have when they say this. Not like Jimbo won a NC, 3 ACC championships, had a heisman winner, dozens of draft picks and left tons of star recruits behind. Gtfoh with that BS
@@eazye619 I’m not blaming Jimbo for anything, but when he left the program was down. He legitimately downgraded going from Memphis to Florida State. No other person besides those who live in Tallahassee can argue this, and I don't think even they would.
@AmariAntiquity I'm more-so talking about current times. He had a much better chance at success and winning at Memphis than FSU. If we're talking strictly modern times, FSU is only an upgrade over a small handful of schools in the country. It's that bad right now
@AmariAntiquity 2013 was almost a decade ago. Literally nobody but those in Tallahassee care about it. Because it's all FSU has to look back on right now: memories. It is undeniable that they are a bottom 5 program right now in terms of power 5 football, and may even be bottom 3. So yes, going from winning 8-10 games a year and going to a NY6 bowl like he did at Memphis is unequivocally better than going 3-9, if by some miracle 5-7 and being the doormat to the three biggest rivals in Miami, Clemson, and Florida.
@@bay2perry809 He lost with mostly Willie's recruits. Shit Norvell is to blame too but don't act like Willie left Norval with a good culture or talent. If you were even half a Seminoles fan you would know the culture at the end of Fisher and Taggarts tenures were shit. Everyone is to blame for the loss.
Just posting this after finishing 9-3 on the season and likely making the cheez-it bowl or an outside shot at a New years six bowl. Ranked 13 and likely be ranked 8-13 to end the season. Things are looking GREAT
After Fisher you don't hire a Willie Taggart. You need a splash hire in a Bob Stoops or Urban Meyer. "Oh, but they coached for the gators" So the hell what? I am more concerned about FSU winning than I am about where our coaches used to coach at previously! In fact, I would say that we just got a ringer who understands our rivals better than us because he used to be one! Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.
The ignorance from some people. FSU doesn't have the money to fire another head coach. The money to buyout Willie, the money to buyout Norvell, and then pay another big name coach (because let's face it, if FSU has to start from square 1 again, we'd have to go out and get a huge name or we'd be royal screwed) just isn't there. We don't have "F you" money like UGA, Bama, or Texas A&M. Also for a new coach to have to come in, you're restarting the clock of a rebuild. People don't seem to understand that FSU can't just throw coaches at the problem until it's fixed. We don't have the money and things don't work that way anymore. With the transfer portal and recruiting the way it is nowadays, you've got to keep some continuity. If you'd like a good example of this not working, look at Tennessee.
@@rad608 he came into a bad situayion with no real time to save a recruiting class and we suffered from the exact same issues prior to him getting there while trying to install a brand new scheme. Taggert’s gone, move on as he never had a lose like this one. Can’t keep blaming the brother as this is Norvell’s dumpster fire. What does Taggert have to do with loosing to an FCS school????
3 star recruiting and undisciplined play.. unorganized as hell. You can’t change that overnight. But bad execution and play calling lost that game. Cristobal was the coach on that Oregon staff not Taggert.. he’s at best average. But the mess was already underway when he got here. Losing attitude or excepting mediocrity was in place when Norvell arrived. Can he fix it? I don’t know.. I didn’t blame Willie for the mess but I don’t think he was going to turn it around.
Taggert literally lied to the Oregon media like a pos but he had a goodish season but didn’t even stay for the bowl game to do nothing at Florida state
I think Norvell should at least get the rest of this season and be here to start next season, it’s his second season he needs to be able to fully install what he wants and get the guys to run it let him bring in his recruits he was 38-15 at Memphis which is highest in Memphis history and they have some really solid players in the league rn. Let him get another signing class of guys he wants to bring in and another year of experience for the players to be with him now that football is starting to get back to normal after covid
But Willy didn’t get that chance but because his him he gets to stay? That’s what’s wrong with the program right there you guys let certain stuff slide.
@@40CalRod_ Willy had some really good players left from Jimbos era and they either transferred out or weren’t good under him. Willie had no culture at FSU I personally was someone who said he should’ve at least finished the season through but all these points were valid and it’s not like he was a recruiting monster either which prob made it even easier to move on from him.
But you didn't say the same for thr black man....thats why Fl St is going through what they're going through and I love it! White people DONT believe in KARMA is real! Yall did Taggart wrong because he was black!
Great video!! Great insight. I really hope they can right the ship. You are exactly right though, they do need fan support. Maybe soon of the former players like Warwick Dunn, Derrick Brooks, Matt & Todd Frier Charlie Ward etc should make trip back to Tallahassee and provide some mentoring to the players
The fall began with Jimbo. He stopped recruiting OL. He had 4 Qbs that left, 2 of which ended up on Last Chance U. Jimbo aimed the plane at the ground and had enough foresight to jump out. He didn't want to fire his friends. Once TAMU came calling with a truckload of money it bailed him out from firing friends and going through the crash. Then we hired Taggart who is barely qualified to coach HS. Look how much better Oregon got when he left and they promoted Cristobal. Norvell had a decent program at Memphis and kept it going. I felt optimistic at the beginning of the year but the coaching decisions this year have been atrocious. They had ND on the ropes and fucked that up. Then they lose to an FCS team. Even if Norvell continues to suck FSU is stuck with him. They don't want to start over again and I don't think they can afford another buyout and hire another coach. They already swung and missed with Stoops when they settled on Norvell. I dont know if the program can be saved. It is really sad. I have a lot of great memories watching with my dad and also my daughter. the games now are pretty much unwatchable.
I think we spent all our energy on Taggert. No fanbase has the stamina to be angry and demanding forever. Ousting Taggert was meant to be our victory parade, so now that he's gone but the program is just as bad if not worse, we don't have the energy to be mad anymore. Anger and despair don't kill programs. Apathy does.
If some of these writers would a little research before publishing these articles/videos, maybe the loss wouldn't sting quite as bad. Jacksonville State has a history of exceeding expectations when playing these FBS teams. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the FSU V JSU game in 2009, where JSU was leading with just 35 seconds left in the game, only to have FSU score on an interception in the final seconds. In the opening game of 2010, JSU came from down 31-10 at the half, to beat Ole Miss in O/T. In 2015, JSU led most of the game against Auburn, only to fall in O/T. JSU has had a few more FBS opponents these past few years like, GA Tech, Arkansas, LSU, Kentucky, and Mich. State. Those other games resulted in a JSU loss, but a few of those games were more competitive than expected. Sure, FSU should have came out top, but JSU is a top FCS program and these top FCS schools have nothing to lose. If you sleep on them, they will bite you.
Georgia Southern had more than 1 D2 natty when they beat Florida and no one cared. JSU has only the one in 1992 in D2 ball. They have zero FCS championships and it is very much humiliating to lose to them. I forgot to mention that JSU was routed 51-0 the previous week by a very bad UAB.
I love how people just assume the stereotype that Nebraska fans are living in the 90s, we get it we suck, but you don't have to keep accusing us of living in the past. As for Mike norvell I'm beginning to notice a trend with these AAC coaches, lack of discipline and lack of execution through the first three years. Get it fixed norvell, college football is better when these guys are good.
@@purpp6114 oh no I meant AAC..... Because Scott Frost threw his first three years has been the same thing norvel has been lack of execution and lots of penalties. Same has been with most of these AAC coaches when they get to the power 5.

I’m an Oregon fan, and we are very fortunate for two things: 1) discarding Slick Willie. 2) not falling down “the hole” that so many big programs fell down. We were so fortunate for one thing from Willie: he hired Mario Cristobal. I will give him credit for that.

Very surprised by the Jacksonville State loss and you're spot on with the team not taking Jacksonville seriously. But having a first year under CV-19 is a big issue in his first year. Also, recruiting was so far down that it takes time to rebuild the recruiting network. I'd say look at him after 3 years because Year 1 was so problematic. This year other losses will most probably be Clemson and Florida but they do have a chance for most probably 6 wins or 7 wins if they can edge North Carolina. If they lose to Wake Forest, that's a bad sign. Personally, I thought they should have given Taggart another year because Fisher was looking to leave and ticked off at FSU so recruiting really slid. Taggart turned around South Florida in 4 years going 10-2 in his last year before going to Oregon for only 1 year and then to FSU.
Being from the Memphis area this has been a common theme for coaches who show success in the Bluff City. John Calapari should have never left the Univ. Of Memphis basketball program for Kentucky. The players he took that were scheduled to come to Memphis that he stole, helped him win the only national championship he has ever won at Kentucky. Justin Fuentes should’ve never left to go coach Virginia Tech, they have been terrible ever since. Mike Norvell, I can’t understand why this guy would leave a program that was winning 8-10 games a season, nationally ranked in the top 25 when they were winning 2-5 games a year for the previous 20 years prior to Fuentes coming from Arizona. He will be unceremoniously fired from Florida State if he loses one more game and he’ll be relegated to coaching division two football or high school, which is now what he deserves. Never look a gift horse in the mouth.
Honestly Fisher left the program in a not so good state than people care to admit. He got lazy in recruiting, player development dropped off. Anyone with common sense knew that after Dalvin Cook left Florida State would fall off. Oregon's thrashing of them should've shown people how quickly they were falling.
You are clueless FSU was top 3 into 2017 played Bama into late Q3 ..administration drained football...uneducated people that are not cognizant of actusl facts are WORSE than teams play
@@cjcamarda5393 slow your room there now, you're getting too sporty. You claim to have taken a Bama into the 3rd quarter, I give you that. What you ignore, is the fact your O-line was terrible at that point (ask Francois). As far as that game against Oregon in 2015, the luck during the regular season simply ran out. How many comeback games did they need back then? Had they been in a conference with more than two or three legit teams they would've gone 7-5, or 8-4. I say that's declining coming off a national championship the year before. Let's not forget the pounding Louisville gave them in 2016 63-20, that's declining. Is Florida State's decline completely Fisher's fault, absolutely not. But you must admit that before he left they were already headed downward. Taggart only worsened and already declining program.
It's funny how he mentions Mike Norvell was better than Willie Taggart in every aspect including recruiting. But doesn't mention the fact that under Willie Taggart Florida State finish top-15 in recruiting versus Mike Norvell who's finish top 25. Secondly Willie Taggart never lost to a FCS team and norvelle has yet to reach a bowl game and the way they're playing this year they may not go to a bowl game. Thirdly Willie Taggart play-calling was a little bit better than Mike Norvell. Lastly we're seeing the Personnel make the same mistakes as they did under Willie Taggart offensive line is still garbage the secondary is still suspect and more importantly the offense will have a great first half and get neutralized in the second half
I can give up on this team, I can give up on Mike Norvell, tf you mean I can't lol. FSU has given me absolutely no reason to be optimistic since Jimbo left.
Come on man, he probably proposed to his girlfriend after this game because their families were there. The rest of that dude’s life means a lot more than one really awful game.
Are you fucking kidding me? A guy proposes at the end of being upset by Jacksonville St. absolutely laughable, I guess that player needs something to be cheerful about after that abominable loss, haha
I was at this game with my two kids who for them was the first time they’ve ever seen FSU play live. I was a little disappointed and they’re playing performance. They just look lazy and not into the game the whole night.
Good times that you and your kids went to see them play. And by what you said it simply seems the players are simply not in tune. Can't put the whole blame on the coach if that's the case.
U can not fire a coach every 2 years u need to give people Time or your just gonna keep hiring losers cause no one will take this job knowing they will only have 2 years to prove it
Recording Artist from Dallas, but recent graduate of the University of Memphis. I got to see 3 years of Norvell firsthand, where I witnessed how he turned our historically losing program into a somewhat household name, with winning seasons, victories over major programs, AAC championship appearances (those games UCF and Cincinnati are no joke), and successful athletes that he’s helped put in the NFL (I literally have a Tony Pollard jersey hanging above my studio speakers). Nevertheless, some of the same issues that are starting to arise with his tenure at Florida State were already evident at his time in Memphis, where they weren’t necessarily amplified due to the fact that he wasn’t competing against P5 talent week in and week out. My grandfather, who is a former NFL cornerback and one of the first black scholar athletes to integrate FSU, is a proud alum, and even he’s heard some commentary on Norvell’s performance as of late. Between him and Scott Frost, it slightly saddens me that I’ve watched two coaches who’ve I’ve seen firsthand impact smaller programs try to emulate that success at a higher level, only to find themselves humbled by the true reality of big-time Division I football, filled with high amounts of expectations, and a low amount of patience. However, I can’t say that this wasn’t entirely expected. I hope for his sake, the players sake, and that fan base’s sake that he and his staff find a way to turn it around before he gets the “Charlie Strong treatment” real soon.
Florida State has been on a steady decline since 2014. The playoff loss to Oregon was the start of that downward spiral. Don't be fooled by that #3 preseason ranking in 2017. Alabama dusted them by 17. Personally I think Alabama let up. If Alabama wanted to that game would have ended 48-3.
Or... Maybe it's time the rest of college football started giving FCS teams like Jacksonville State the respect we deserve instead of blaming the so-called "better" FBS team.
They fired Taggart, really, before he unpacked. FSU never accepted him and forced him to fire his assistants after just one year. Nobody thought he would last so that just made it harder still. They should not repeat the mistake again. Give this guy and the staff some continuity so that players can learn the system. I once heard that the offensive line at FSU (which has been terrible) at one point had 4 different OL coaches in four years.
I realized that I was a Bobby Bowden fan. As I was even a Steve Spurrier fan (for ten games of the season.) They used to be funny, shocking trick plays, loosey-goosey in interviews. And I could even STAND a loss to Miami, every other year, "Wide Right" became a mantra every bit as weird as "Tebow-ing." Could we maybe dig up Bobby, pump'm full of drugs, sneak it in as a Halloween prank....
3 things: First, you said the DC might need to go? I think it's the OC that needs to go. I think he got confused about which QB was on the field a couple of times. I don't think Dillingham has any idea what he's doing. That leads me to my 2nd point. We need to pick a QB and stick with him. I like both of them, but the team needs to rally behind one guy who isn't worried about getting benched all the time. Lastly, I'm afraid this loss may officially turn the corner for us to the point of no return (if we're not already there.) Who wants to go to a school that is losing games to FCS schools when they could go play for Florida, or Georgia, or even Miami?
Jimbo Fisher jumped ship because the program was on the decline. He was 5-6 overall and 3-5 in the ACC his final season at FSU. He also resigned before the season was over in 2017. He won a title there, but jumped to the SEC as soon as he could. At that time Texas A&M was not considered a better program than FSU.
We have the 3rd ranked recruiting class for 2022. If we want to keep this class we better start winning. I'm scared we are not going to do it and we will loose this class and finish out of the top 25. What's wrong right now. Our Receivers SUCK can't catch anything. Our Coaches SUCK horrible decisions. I and only hope and pray we can keep this class together.
Norvell is sustainable for a little while longer but both the OC and DC and maybe OL coaches have to go. Love Odell but the DL needs some modern day coaching. Can’t pin your ears back every single down especially when you’re not getting there half the time. I would hate to see if we didn’t have Johnson this year. What rush, penetration or sacks? And what in the hell are the doing with Amari Gainer? Why isn’t he in the middle running the D? He’s another Telvin Smith. Did you hear the DC explain his “theory” on that last play of what should’ve happened??? Wtf!!? PREVENT, PREVENT, PREVENT. Rush three. No one get behind you, keep everything in front of you. Worst case field goal, play overtime and pull out a win. Damn. My 7-9 year olds told me that. And the OC and his play calling. He can talk penalties all he wants. These stupid as generic plays my pee wees would snuff the fk out. Probably couldn’t make the tackle but shit they’ll call it out and meet at the ball carrier. I love M&M and his story but unless Travis was hurt you let Travis get in there and make the defense prove that they can chase and run him down. We should be in a two QB rotation regardless to mitigate risk for M&M. He’s come way to far to allow this coaching incompetence destroy all the work he and his team (family, doctors, friends, UCF, etc..) have done to get him back on the football field. As suspect as the oline is why would you put him at such risk.
We can’t AFFORD to fire these clowns. FSU-for all intents and purposes-is broke… Sadly, it seems Norvell is a small ball coach. The players are undersized and soft. This isn’t big boy football.
When are we going to get some hockey videos? Also, I’m addition to the NHL, could you do some videos on hockey prospects this season? USHL, NCAA, Major Junior (WHL, OHL & QMJHL), AHL, etc. as well as major international tournaments tournaments like the WJHC & U18WC!
I hope they dont fire Coach Novell. What he inherited was a garbage program that is going to take five years to build back into a contender. It is going to take a couple of high profile recruits to commit to Florida State along with recruiting from the transfer portal to slowly build the program back into a powerhouse. When Coach Saban accepted the HC position at Alabama the program had become a punching bag for many of the SEC schools. The football program had fallen into a mediocre contender category. Coach Saban major recruiting effort was to try and convince Julio Jones a covenant five star WR to come to Alabama and help turn the Tide around. Julio eventually committed and Saban put together a team that started the foundation for today's dynasty. The same can be done at Florida State if they simply let the coach continue to build his program to an acceptable level of performance.
mark stoops would be a great coach for florida state. he specialises in defensive backs example 2010- 2012 fl state .and he's done a great job rebuilding kentucky and establishing an identity he was also the 2008 sec coach of the year. you can even bring norvell back as a oc.
We cant fire this coach. they would have to learn a whole new system. I worry though I don't see any confidence, any anger ... I see panic and sadness. You cant compare any coach at FSU to coach Bowden... However, dont forget the awesome assistant coaches that were on his staff. Mickey Andrews, Chuck Amato, Mark Richt, Brad Scott, Jim Gladen, Dave Vanhallenger. These names are engraved in that stadium. Let's just say I know you would never ever see these looks on any of the coaches. This was the first I saw a video of the player proposing on the sideline after any loss or win. This is inexcusable. There were so many times players were probably cussing these coaches under their breath but in the end we loved them like family because you knew they just wanted you to be better every day. Under Bowden FSU never ever took any team lightly because every day you would hear "this might be the best team we have played all year" no matter who you were playing and you believed that. You would then proceed to score 70 points and coach would say "we had some lucky breaks", but boy that's a good team".Coach Norvel needs to put Odell Haggins (DL coach) right by his side. You see Odell comes from that lineage. Players must buy into this system and if you dont leave. I dont want to be that team that fires a coach every 2 years and thinks things will change overnight. This will come together it just takes time....These are the same athletes we always had.
Seeing how FSU, USC, Texas, Nebraska & LSU are going (maybe even ohio state after losing Justin Fields & Chase Young) Jim Harbaugh is actually doing an epic job at Michigan.
Coaches that struggle all seem to have similar positive traits…and similar struggles…they all are great teachers…but all neglect to teach details and all struggle to hold their players accountable…
So far not terribly impressed with Norvell. However he has a Top 10 recruiting class lined up AS OF NOW for next year. He has to win, keep that class together, and then we will see if he can make it work. One player like #1 prospect Travis Hunter can make a huge difference.
How about get the offensive coordinator out of the air condition and get him down on that field!!! He should be getting in those guys faces!!! It's sickening what he's doing to our offense! I had so much hope when we got Mike Norvell and now I'm just defeated.
Lol. They're still blaming Willie. The same people who celebrated every players departure when Mike took over. This guy can't coach. But get used to making excuses for him b/c you're going to probably need 2 more years worth.

Florida State is in the same boat as Tennessee, Michigan, Nebraska, Miami, Texas, and USC as 90s/2000s Powerhouses that fell off big time. I hope Norvell succeeds, my high school classmate played for him at Memphis
It’s more surprising when it happens to a southern school.
He legitimately downgraded going from Memphis to Florida State. No other person besides those who live in Tallahassee can argue this, and I don't think even they would.
@AmariAntiquity but you have the burden of high expectations. At Memphis you don’t got that.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth.
ha!
Honestly Fisher left the program in a not so good state than people care to admit. He got lazy in recruiting, player development dropped off. Anyone with common sense knew that after Dalvin Cook left Florida State would fall off. Oregon's thrashing of them should've shown people how quickly they were falling.

Let me guess! The excuse for the Wake Forrest loss is on Taggart.
They fired Taggart, really, before he unpacked. FSU never accepted him and forced him to fire his assistants after just one year. Nobody thought he would last so that just made it harder still. They should not repeat the mistake again. Give this guy and the staff some continuity so that players can learn the system.

FSU-for all intents and purposes-is broke…
Sadly, it seems Norvell is a small ball coach. The players are undersized and soft. This isn’t big boy football.
There is one guy they could hire and who would win almost immediately: Hugh Freeze.
Deion Sanders was the hire we missed out on, bone head decision by us and now we’re cursed 🤦🏾♂️
As a kid I remember watching Florida State beating Auburn in the National Championship. Now I’m 19 and they just lost to Jacksonville State.
This is like seeing a wounded lion.
A once proud predator that could take down any animal one on one twice it's size up till now not being able to even walk let alone hunt easy prey.
Dude who proposed really said "screw it, I'm raking a W today no matter what"
Just turn the team over to Don jr, rename the stadium DeSantis stadium, stop keeping score and DeSantis will tell you who won.
11/10 comment. Maybe name a stand after Dubya in honour of his Florida election bullshit
Just got Travis Hunter taken away from us this team is a cesspool of depression
I still wear my FSU shorts and hat proudly.
Same if anyone try’s to talk shit I’ll just talk about how good our basketball team is 😅😅😅
I really think Mike norvell is a good coach but this loss is making me think me sceptical if hes really the guy for fsu football
Deion Sanders was the hire even Steve Wonder would have made, now we’re cursed because we didn’t capitalize on it 🤦🏾♂️
I remember the 2016 orange ball game vs Michigan. Ah the good old days
Please talk about the resurrection of SMU under Sonny Dykes!
They think they can repeat the Bobby days by throwing money at the coach and building fancy ridiculous training facilities….it ain’t happening!
All FSU had to do was was upgrade the freaking practice facilities and stadium and we would still have Jimbo.
From a die hard Noles fan, Mike is the right guy and he will turn this around.
Damn do you really hate Willie Taggert or something? Norvell isn't any better than Taggert. Be fair dude.
Double standards
notre dame fan here, the irish's o-line and idiotic decision to take a grad transfer with cinderblocks for feet and the worst offensive line i have EVER SEEN in south bend is ridiculous, i'd rather be florida state right now. ND has no excuse what so ever.
We’re 2-0 despite those problems.
It’s funny that he used to be Arizona State’s offensive coordinator 😯 how much time has flown & it’s kind of a shame this is his current situation…
This is not the worst loss of the program. It was a bad call at the end. I saw the loss to Oregon...snapping our 29 game winning streak with our Heisman quarterback and crushing our back to back championship goals. I saw the loss to Louisville within the next year or two...those were worse.
USC since 2009 has overall been disappointed and Florida st since 2015.
Hire Deion Sanders as head coach!
At least they recognize there's
a problem early in the season.
The players now are not as talented overall as the ones Coach Bowden recruited.
