Edwin, you might revisit this one, but chain the oxygen tanks in an upright position and to the back of the front seats. And scatter the propane tanks around in the rest of the back of the van. Then shoot towards the rear area of the van to put holes in some of the propane tanks. Once they start venting, shoot the area where the oxygen tanks are. This method should get you the results you were looking for.

OXY and acetylene tanks have a plug in the valve, before the valve itself, that's designed to melt at a certain temperature as a controlled failure point. So instead of building up enough pressure to bust the tank itself it lets the contents out before it gets to that temperature. That's why the oxygen tank randomly let loose after they stopped shooting.

I have seen this effect before.
The rapid expansion of the gas generates a massive cooling effect plus it effectively "blows out" any potential flame.
With no steady or effective ignition source present, the odd "spark" just isnt enough to light the gas on fire.
Think ....like in the movies when someone throws a cigarette into a pool of petrol ..... in reality the petrol puts out the cigarette ember.
This being said, I absolutely respect you firing 50cals at a van full of gas cylinders.

So, as a certified propane technician, I can say that you are quite lucky. Not your time to go. Propane at atmospheric pressure, will boil at -44 degrees F. That also means that when there are holes (like from bullets) in a propane tank, the pressure is basically atmospheric. That means the temperature of any liquid propane is at or very near -44 degrees F. There will be very little vapor at that point because the surface area exposed to any air above -44 degrees is very small and thus not much of the propane is boiling off as vapor. To ignite, the vapor must mix with oxygen at a 24:1 ratio. That is about 4%. It will ignite between 2.1% and 9.6% but combustion is considered incomplete, but not for the purposes of your "experiment." With this and your previous propane tank demolition, you note that the propane will vent but needs a spark (ignition). Also, the initial deflagration (below sound barrier propagation of ignition) burned the available vapor mixture. Then only the venting that provided the proper mixture given above would burn the the jets coming from the holes. Eventually there were alot of holes in the tanks. The pressure was nearly zero in the tanks. There was still a lot of liquid propane in the tanks. The temperature of the liquid was nearly -44 degrees F. It was not producing much vapor at that temperature having cooled the air and metal around it down to it's boiling point. Every time a bullet displaced the liquid and introduced warmer air, more vapor was produced. This then when mixed enough to achieve the 4% mixture was ignited by the flames and a new deflagration (burst of flames) was seen. The problem with your latest experiment, was that since there was likely propane vapor filling the truck when you approached, and a source of ignition with the flames you were going to extinguish, as soon as you disturb the liquid still left in the propane cylinders and mix enough air in the propane vapor, the flames would ignite the mixture, or even a slight spark from something you did like open a door. And the resulting deflagration (or even detonation, ie explosion) would have likely been extremely painful or fatal. Luck is a very fickle wench!

You need the smaller aluminum O2 tanks to detonate. Steel doesnt react with O2.. but even then itll probably go off one at a time. Each cylinder is difficult to penetrate by shrapnel or explosion. Now a tub of liquid O2, super fine charcoal, and gasoline.. thatll be interesting! Ps. 150 yards would no longer be far enough. It would be a jdam equivalent.

So glad Marks there ❤ I'd want him on the .50 if that gets loose..... And OMG Royal N polishing Marks barrel with Ed just plugging away like a pro 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣☠ End was so good. I fired through 4x 100 round belts and 2x barrels on the F89 passing into a zone of no live ammo one day, soooooo much fun.

And..in Hollywood, one shot from a .22, completely explodes any vehicle, and.. it flips over, with just people in it, where ever it is shot, first try, while in a high speed chase. Amazing, the difference.
