  • The 71st Fighter Squadron is one of three fighter squadrons assigned to the 1st Fighter Wing. Its mission is to maintain a combat-ready force able to conduct air-superiority operations anywhere in the world for the United States and its allies.
In 1975, the 71st moved to its current home with the 1st Fighter Wing at Langley Air Force Base, Va., where it was equipped with the F-15 Eagle air superiority fighter in 1976.
The 71st garnered numerous awards in its distinguished career. The 71st Fighter Squadron won the prestigious Hughes Achievement Trophy in 1999, 1993 and 1969, awarded annually to the most outstanding air superiority unit in the Air Force. The 71st received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the Presidential Unit Citation on four occasions each. McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation recognized the 71st in July 1991, for achieving 110,000 flying hours without a serious mishap.
The 71st TFS deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield as part of the first U.S. Air Force contingent in Saudi Arabia. The squadron was integral in establishing allied air-superiority during the operation. More recently the squadron participated in Operation Southern Watch in the Persian Gulf Region. The unit was redesignated the 71st Fighter Squadron Sept. 1, 1991.
In a normal flying day, the 71st Fighter Squadron will launch approximately 25 sorties to fly training missions in air-to-air combat, aerial gunnery, and air defense intercepts.
Done fantastically in diecast in 1:72 scale by Dragon Wings is this McDonnell Douglas F-15C Eagle from the USAF's 1st Tactical Fighter Wing, 71st Tactical Fighter Squadron, Langley AFB, VA

The first Dragon Wing F-15 I bought, I’d say about 10 years ago, was pretty decent with some finicky fitment accessories. Back then, dragon wings were something, but after Hobby Master arrived, now Hobby Master is just a dominator. Great review! 👍🏻

They do present nicely for older models for sure. It's sad that Dragon no longer do the 1:72 military aircraft. So eBay hunting is the only way to find these now, and you just hope you get all the right bits, haha. Yes Hobby Master is just pumping out the models, although its starting to be a lot of the same old same old, just different liveries. Be nice if they made something that no one has made it yet, maybe some Italian WW2 aircraft for something different!! As always thank you for dropping past to check out the video 👍😁

@@heavymetaldiecast not quite sure why these manufacturers suddenly just disappeared from business, not just dragon wings but also witty wings as well as the Gemini Aces line. All those manufacturers are used to doing excellent work. as a collector I always like to share some thoughts i have on any type of category related to those models perhaps we satisfy those topics. thank you.

@@Patriot407 Totally agree. Maybe some of those business went bust, as I think JC Wings took over a lot of the Witty Wings molds. And boy thise Gemini models are top notch. I managed to get some WW2 ones second hand and they have some great detail. Same with Falcon Models, they stopped too and they used to make some of the more obscure types. For me as a collector that likes to get as many different types of military aircraft that's always a plus. I mean I do love an F-4 Phantom but do I need 160 Hobby Master ones, haha I don't think so 🤣 I'm happy with 30 F-4's and then buy different ones aswell. I do have a number of aircraft I have mutlipe liveries off but I do like to get a diverse range of aircraft type as well. 😂 I buy aircraft that at times I don't even like, haha. But they are part of aviation military history. I sort of had it in mind to try and get 1 type of every Hilary aircraft type used... didn't realise how many different types of aircraft there were and how big that list is,haha

      @@heavymetaldiecast "🤣 I'm happy with 30 F-4's and then buy different ones aswell." - You made me laugh 🤣🤣🤣 I have 4 F-4s (2*HM and 2*X-Plus) and I think that's too many, although I want a couple more 😆

HM F-15 is very poor. It has a lot of inconsistencies compared to the real F-15. But if you don't care about that, then it's a decent looking model.

Pretty awesome model! F 15c is my favourite F 15 variant so definitely going to be adding one of these to my collection at somepoint. And wow, how do you get those gear bay doors off?!

    • @heavymetaldiecast
      @heavymetaldiecast  4 месяца назад

Yes these Dragon ones are pretty nice. Good luck in your hunt for some...eBay will be your friend now!! The gear bay doors are on there pretty tight, just use a thin razor blade or hobby blade to slowly pry them off. But I would do this with a box or small tub over the model. As sometimes they can fly off when your leveraging them....and disappear into the never seen again zone.....which happened to me while making this video, haha. Lucky it was the gear up piece as I display mine gear down doesn't affect it, but still peed me off. Glad I had finished the video, haha. But it is somewhere in my 4 car garage!!!! 🤣

All diecast F-15 models have their pros and cons. But I will not write about them now. All I will say is that in my opinion the DW F-15s are the best. Yes, the stand is really bad for them, and the cocpit is a bit too dark. And I don't like the mounting of missiles at DW (unlike bombs and tanks, which are amazing), but everything else is at a very good level. And the shape of the fighter itself is the most realistic. Even if you compare it with HM, there are too many inaccuracies in HM, and those that are even scary to look at!!! Everyone praises HM models, but their F-15 is not very good. I say this because I have both the HM F-15SG and the DW F-15E and can compare them.... Yes, HM has a very good models, but that is not what they are talking about now.
As for the DW F-15C, it is very hard to get. I recently bought one for 5eur. But he misses the cockpit hood and weapons. Everything else is ideal. I really want the DW F-15C and F-15D in my collection, because they are great, even without looking at their cons.
And I'll repeat: it's a shame that DW stopped producing airplane models. With current technology, they could update the F-15, F-16 and F/A-18C,D,E,F (because the shape of the models are really good) like Jc Wings did with the Witty Wings models.
As for the drop tanks, those are from another DW F-15C/D and they fit your model. So you can hang them boldly.
    Great review as always 👍👍👍

I always appreciate your replies and insight and hopefully our viewers do too.I always wondered what DW were thinking with the way they put their missiles on with the tabs. They can be at times awkward to place on, I know they provide that little crimping tool but it is still a weird way and the only manufacturer i have ever seen do it like that. A lot of people also have issue with the HM engine nozzles on the F-15 releases. Checkout this guys channel www.youtube.com/@jhermes2219
He does a nice little video about the engine nozzles. Once again I really do enjoy your comments and it hopefully also helps others out too. Thanks for the support. Cheers 🙂

@@heavymetaldiecast Thanks, I've seen that video before. Those engine nozzles look amazing!!! Why doesn't HM do that? Is it too expensive? It's good that I have the HM F-15SG model with F110-GE-129C engines...
Unfortunately, the HM F-15 has another major drawback. One of them is the unevenness on top of the body. Where there must be a flat place. I saw it only after receiving the model. And it's scary!!! Yes, the HM F-15 has its advantages. For example, His weaponry is amazing. Here HM really did a great job. But elsewhere, everything has already been done very dismissively. And it's confusing because sometimes HM makes really amazing models. But sometimes they just spit on their customers.
Once again, I wrote too much 😂
