  • Elvis Presley stars as VINCE EVERETT, a walking red flag whose singing is really gonesville. He rises to C-list celebrity status by stepping on people and couches across the nation. Once or twice he gyrates his hips and I'm forced to question things about myself.
    An undeniably entertaining watch.

1956/57 were the turning point years when Elvis recorded few hit songs and did few incredible films which certified him as a super star. Soon after this film was made that same year he bought Grace Land!

Great review. I agree with you. The only saving grace was getting to see him on screen. I was a teenager & he could have read the telephone book - the plot didn't matter. But even for those times the plot seems so weak, unrealistic & disjointed. We simply didn't care. Think you'll enjoy King Creole. Much better film with top notch actors. A serious film (had been meant for James Dean but adapted for Elvis once Dean died).

I laughed every time you called him Hulk Hogan 😂

The movie was supposed to make Elvis a James Dean rebellious type of character & that's why they have him playing someone who's somewhat mean, sarcastic & a bit of a 'punk' as you said.

That scene in which an underage fan tells him of her measurements is not wholely inaccurate either. For example, several fans wrote to President Eisenhower begging him to allow Elvis to retain his sideburns in the army.

I was dying laughing at some of your comments lol! But for sure, there was definitely something hot about Elvis in this movie, even if Vince was a jerk.

Let's face it, women are generally attracted to confidence, and unfortunately, self-assured arrogance is possibly the best sign of it.

It is so funny to watch your reaction to the first recordings session. That was basically what happen to Elvis in real life. . He went to Sun Records and paid to make a single record to take home. ( that was a thing then). Later he was invited to do an audition. It didn’t go well. Sam Phillips was going to wave him off. During a break, he started just jamming with his guitar and bass player. It was not being recorded. That’s when the producer noticed his potential. A few acetates were pressed and sent to local DJs to play on the radio. The rest is history.
FYI: The guitar player and bass player were actually his band members at the time.

Very good review! I totally agree with you. It's hard to like Vince, but he looks so hot in this movie.🥴
I put Loving You story way above this one.
Thank you for your hard work! I enjoyed this review very much!☀️💚

All the women who stared with him all looked about ten years older than him.

We have to remember that this movie was made in 1957. Movie were rarely longer that 90 minutes, so developing characters were not as deep as in a 3 hour movie today. I Ike that Elvis is a jerk in the movie. It’s actual acting. After 1958, all is characters are the good guy. No big stretch. I suggest King Creole. It is his best.
