I want to compliment you on how gracious you were about negative comments (at the beginning of the Jurassic Park video) lol. Not disagreeing with you here, just saying your niceness is one reason people should refrain from making mean comments. XD
Fun fact: The alien is (mostly) portrayed by Bolaji Badejo, a Nigerian graphic designer that a member of the casting team randomly encountered in a Soho pub. He was 6 foot 10 and very slender, so he was considered perfect for the role. This is the only film he ever appeared in. He was offered a role in the sequel, but instead he moved back to Nigeria and opened his own art gallery. Unfortunately he passed away in 1992 from sickle cell disease.
Steven Spielberg said that ALIEN was the first Science Fiction film he ever saw where all of his focus was exclusively on the characters, instead of the Special Effects. All of the sets and effects were practical and utilitarian in service to the story. It's a bit of a slow burn, but truly captures the claustrophobic tension of being trapped in a game of hide and seek with a proficiently deadly alien species while stuck in space. A true modern classic.
Believe it or not- back in 1979 Kenner toys (who just made a fortune on Star Wars toys) released an *18 inch tall* toy of the Alien in time for Christmas. The toy was just as frightening as the R-Rated movie itself! Parents were shocked and outraged so toy stores pulled it from the shelves. It has become a hot collector item and a genuine 1979 Kenner Alien still in the original box is worth a small fortune! While I didn't own one myself (I was 9 years old in 1979) a friend of mine did back then- the toy had a mouth that opened with a lever on the back of the head- and had the little "extra jaw" that extended when the mouth opened. Yeah for a kid it was terrifying!
I was 9 and I can honestly say that movies were scarier back then. They were not scared to show gore violence. Just watch RoboCop one time. lol My mother didn’t want we go too far out on the beach so she took me to see Jaws

The crew ignoring Ripley had nothing to do with her being a woman. Originally, Ripley was written to be a man but got changed. The ‘one person warning of danger and being ignored trope’ was very common in the 70’s. The tiny panties were a perfect distraction from seeing the alien right away. Pure Genius. Even after watching it many times over the years ( including at the theater in 1979) I didn’t realize it until I heard every reactor on RUclips comment on Ripley’s drawers. The dead alien pilot is called Space Jockey a term used by the makers of this film. And it has its own lore explained in various comics.
Impressed you realized Ash was a robot! I know it was about to be revealed, but that’s still an extremely bizarre and puzzling moment for most people (including myself). I hadn’t noticed how Parker, who had been focused on money, was the one who said, “What about our lives??” to Ash(‘s head). Considering what he does throughout the movie (suggesting freezing poor John Hurt’s character and sacrificing himself in an attempt to save another coworker), he really is the second most-level headed on the ship and an all around good guy.
The reason the creature looked so menacing is that the actor who played him, Bolaji Badejo, was 6 feet, 10 inches tall. Alien was his only film credit. Cool review, folks!
Alien is my favorite movie depending on the day of the week I’m asked. On the other days, my favorite is Aliens. In my opinion it’s the greatest sequel ever made, rivaled only by Empire Strikes Back and Terminator 2. Please check it out soon and be sure to watch the Director’s Cut. In my opinion it’s the better version, but you can’t go wrong with the theatrical cut either. Couple points about this movie: the crew might have had guns but they couldn’t risk using them because the alien most likely has acid blood too. Shooting it would surely kill them all when the blood burns a hole through every floor below it. It’s not always clear to viewers, but the alien was initially standing in the hallway leading to the shuttle, so Ripley couldn’t get past it. She was trying to turn off the self destruct so she could find another way to deal with the alien. Since she was too late she had no choice but to go back and try to get past it. I don’t think Ripley hated Dallas at all. In fact, there was a scene in a version of the script where they have sex in the shuttle. Ripley was definitely frustrated with some of his decisions, and the events has her stressed out, but I don’t think she hated him. I also don’t think Ripley was ignored because she was a woman. Parker agreed with her most of the time and Lambert didn’t. It doesn’t seem like a culture of sexism to me when one of the men agrees with her and the other woman doesn’t. Ash was never going to go along with anything that went against his mission to acquire and protect an alien. Dallas and Ripley simply had good old fashioned disagreements. Unfortunately Dallas made the wrong decisions at every turn when he should have listened to Ripley. I think that’s why he insisted on going into the vents when Ripley was prepared to. He knew how dangerous it was and I think he was taking responsibility for the situation he put them in. He wasn’t about to risk any more lives other than his own.
Yeah. My dad let me watch that when I was 10. Scared the ish out of me. My mom was at work. When the movie was over he said, “Don’t tell your mother.” 🤣
It's so great to see you young folks enjoying the classics, it's like the torch being passed to a new generation! Kudos and love ❤️ being old, my favourite 3 movies are The Thing, Alien and The Fly, all from the 80s because I am that old! ❤️
The ending suggested by Ridley Scott ? Sigourney Weaver was beheaded and the alien emulated her voice on the communication dashboard... Fox executives flew right away to the UK to make sure the ending was right on track 😉
They don’t have standard refrigeration to store the body and the cryo tubes don’t work on corpses. So if the body isn’t jettisoned it’ll just keep decomposing.
Yeah, the trick is, is not to take dates literally like they should 100% replicate a timeline that exists outside of the movie. I always find it best to imagine 'alternate universes' which can explain just about any inconsistency with real life. Nice reaction x
"Are they planning to land on a unknown planet?", well yes, the entire previous scene explained at length that they were obligated to investigate any systemized transmission, that indicates intelligent life.
"What's the matter, the food ain't THAT bad, baby!" in any other movie this could be a memorable line, but due to this movie being so darn near perfect (sorry pertfect for those that will correct me!) it's lost in a million other great memorable lines; but his little chuckle makes it, at that precise moment he just sees his buddy as choking on the food, like a quick joke before it all goes to hell lol Thanks guys, wonderful reactions!
A couple of youngsters are boarding the "Nostromo." What will these moderns make of this "old, long, slow-moving, character-centered, no-DFX" movie? The TV and newspaper ads of the time gave us NO idea what kind of movie this was except for the "in space no one can hear you scream." 7:10 The Company is sending the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 13:00 Canny observers saw Ash's "calisthenics" as suspect. 16:39 The Space Jockey, a mystery for decades. 18:45 Second Officer Kane = Zapp Brannigan. 19:47 How's THAT for a jump scare? 20:18 This conversation has become iconic due to recent events. 20:56 The Face Hugger, grossing out audiences for decades; this is the SE version. 22:25 That's why they couldn't "just cut if off him." 25:38 A Props dept. work of ART, made of sea animals. 28:14 Kane's last meal. 29:10 The Xenomorph, scaring audiences for over 40 years.
ALRIGHT !!! I'm glad yall are watching my favorite franchise. yall are gonna love, especially Aliens. I'll just say this It's never game over, man. RIP Bill Paxton, aka Hudson, the TRUTH💯 AWESOME SHOW, keep up the terrific work 👌 👏 👍 😀
When I first saw this movie just a couple years ago, I had already seen Alien: Covenant and Prometheus, in that order. (Don't ask me how that happened, it just did.) So I already knew about androids in the Alienverse. But I had _no idea_ that there were any androids in the first Alien movie. I assumed that was something they introduced in the later installments. So I went into this movie thinking that I knew all the important story beats and it wouldn't hold any real surprises for me. Imagine my reaction when I saw Ash's white blood! I just about flipped my lid. That was such a great twist, and I'm so glad it didn't get ruined for me before I saw this movie.
The soft, soothing orchestral music at the very end is from Howard Hansen’s Symphony No. 2. Consider it a reward for making it through the horrific parts of this film. 🙂
Practical effects are way better. They look real because they ARE real. Using actual models for the Nostromo is fantastic. Honestly, except fir cleaning up footage, and for laser-type weapons, practical sets are better any day. Thats why I dont like modern day films that much. EVERYTHING is CGI, except the people, and its like a video game, not a film. This is the way to go! Great job guys! One of the scariest movies of all time to this day.
Building the sets gave room for more creative set decorating. It's why it has such a lived-in look. And such a claustrophobic look. This film really caught everyone off guard, coming after the very hopeful film 'Star Wars'. People weren't ready for the visceral horror in this film. The version you were watching had scenes that weren't in the theatrical release, by the way. Just a couple of scenes and shots, really.
I been watching yall for about a week. Yall are hitting the classics up nicely, as for this one, yes definitely watch the next one it's just as good if not better. I will be waiting....
After Ripley goes to sleep at the end of the movie, she's found by a deep space salvage crew 80 years later at the start of the sequel, ALIENS, which is more of an action movie than a horror film.
Selena looks like Lady Gaga (compliment). The effects of the alien were done a couple of ways. There was a very tall Nigerian in a suit in most of the scenes, but some of it was animatronics. The closeups of the head and mouth within a mouth. Stuff like that.
Wow! I didn’t even realize that was the Alien swaying with the chains at 34:00 when I first watched the movie. I thought it was just a piece of machinery with the chains lol
It's a lot like being amazed by CD quality, but now more and more appreciating old vinyl when you speak of practical vs CGI. Aliens is still horrific, but is more action-packed.
I’ll bet the crew wishes Ripley was listened to. I’ll bet Kane wishes he wasn’t such an eager beaver. And I’ll bet Parker would have said F the shares when he got gutted and torn apart.
NICE! 7 days late to the party 🥳🎉 Just watched the John Wick reaction. Gotta say Dude, you got SOOO much GRILLA going on we has to call you BLING KONG 🤣😭😂 Great movie. 5 minutes in. Hoping you like!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
I know the DOS computer screens look really dated, but imagine having a computer system on what's basically a tow truck in space whose crew can be "offline" for months: you'd want something stripped down, straightforward, and easy to use, not something that requires hefty updates on a regular basis and that looks pretty to impress customers or buyers.
They use the same trope in Alien Covenant. The crew is woken up by a "Mysterious signal" from a planet, by it happens to be "Country roads" by John Denver!!
And make sure you watch ALIENS:THE SPECIAL EDITION. ALIENS,GODFATHER 2, TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, TOP GUN 2:MAVERICK,all great sequels.
If you are going to see Aliens, the sequel, you will probably be tempted to see the extended Director's Cut. If you want to be in suspense for the first hour of the film that is very reminiscent of Alien, then I suggest you watch the theatrical cut instead. The Director's Cut committed the cardinal sin that so many movies today are guilty of, showing too much too soon and thus compromised the tension and suspense so carefully crafted.
Good reaction. We tend to forget that John Hurts character (Kane) was infected by only one face hugger and they say there were "thousands" of eggs. That's where the sequel comes from. I am not a fan of recent CGI. Sure it is a time and money saver, but practical effects and real locations are way better. The actors also play against the real thing way better. Movies like 300 were just terrible.
Part II 😁 #1 No need to land quietly if it's a possible SOS beakin. #2 if it was not a alien craft (though realistically WE are the aliens) they'd be saying "Is it Russian or Chinese?? Stay tuned for part III 😯
I have no time for cgi in movies. Sign me a "Jaws" lover. Practical effects. Look at the 45min doc about how "The Exorcist" was made. Incredible practical effects.
No I believe it had nothing to do with what she thought of Dallas and everything to do with the fact that she agreed with Dallas that she wanted to kill this creature and he had to die. But I do believe Ripley is merciful.
the crew's annoyance with ripley had more to do with her by-the-book overzealous nature. also, Ripley didn't hate Dallas, in the original script and in the novel, they were actually sleeping together. if you notice they talk to each other almost like an old married couple.
Fun "Weyland-Yutani is a horrible company" Fact: The Nostromo actually has two lifeboats. Each can carry 3 crewmembers. The Nostromo sails with a crew of 7... and a cat.
This was fun watching this reaction for Alien! Yup it's a sure horror! Just like the first Terminator. You got to watch the sequel Aliens! Great scary action and story sequel and it's by James Cameron! Please try to watch The Special Edition version, it's better. And like you said, you can now tell the practicals of film are so much better than today CGI. You two are pretty cool, good commentary, and cant wait to see more of your reactions, especially the older films. :)
If you like classic SF movies. Check out the 1950's original movies. Alien was influenced by THEM! (1954) too! The THING, When Worlds Collide, and The epic The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). The War of the Worlds, The Beast from 20.000 Fathoms (1953), GODZILLA, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Forbidden Planet (1956). Forbidden was a huge influence for the original Star Trek too! The Deadly Mantis and 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957) and The BLOB (1958).
43:42 they did have guns but with the acid blood they were afraid it would eat through the hull Im sorry but i really dont like the directors cut of alien. The edit from Dallas yelling at Ripley to him softly talking to ash is messy, it shows the alien too much with Bret and the coccooned dallas and bret being turned into eggs made no sense esp going into aliens (coccooning yes turning into eggs not ao much). Now watching Aliens i highly recommend the special edition it adds alot of meaning and more emotions
ALIEN was just re-released to theaters on 4/26. But hey, take something bigger than life and subliminate it small as possible on your little screen for a first time viewing instead. Millennials in a nutshell.
I love that your first instinct is to kill it forgetting it has acid for blood. The movie is supper creepy when you realize the Company sent them to get infected by the xenomorph on this derelict space craft and to try to bring it back to earth by using Ash the Android. Really Messed Up.
Ridley Scott has confirmed Alien, Predator, and Blade Runner all are in the same universe. The cool down screen in this movie can't be seen in the police sky car Spinner of Blade Runner.
Ridley Scott has said a great many things, but not everything he says should be taken at face-value... Just look at the fuster-cluck that is his "prequel trilogy" for ALIEN. I don't want to spoil anything significant just incase these two plan on visiting those films as well, but I will say this much... According to Mr. Scott, in this universe Jesus was an alien of a particular variety; thus when he gets killed... Yeah, if you know, you know.
You people are killing me. The alien is only on screen for a relatively short period of time. Certainly enough where the alien should be shown in your video pretty much anytime its on screen. And yet, for some baffling reason, y'all choose to not show the part where Dallas gets surprised in the vents by the alien. One of the cooler scenes of the whole movie. Wow. Seriously....wow.
Ash being an Android shows how far the company is willing to go to keep this lifeform. But I don't think anyone anticipated how many of them there was on that planet.
It has always been my contention that "The Company" is not behind the events of Alien. It's a single suit. Some desk driver who got a lead on the alien signal and instituted a last-minute crew member change and inserted a special parameter into the flight plan of a backwater commercial tugboat. (Not hard to do.) Someone operating under very similar circumstances to Burke. When the Nostromo disappeared, the suit covered his tracks, and Weyland-Yutani as a corporation was none the wiser. OR....If W/Y wanted an Alien so badly, they (apparently) knew where they were. They had 57 years to get one. But instead, they built a colony there, and don't even take Ripley seriously when she suddenly reappears. No, "The Company" is actually innocent on a corporate level.
Hey y’all welcome back! Hope you enjoy! Keep the comments positive, or else 😎

He knew how dangerous it was and I think he was taking responsibility for the situation he put them in. He wasn’t about to risk any more lives other than his own.
If they'd tried to kill the baby alien when it emerged from Kane's chest, acid would have sprayed everywhere, including onto themselves.
Lambert’s death was the creepiest for me. No visual, but the audio is so haunting.
Yeah. My dad let me watch that when I was 10. Scared the ish out of me. My mom was at work. When the movie was over he said, “Don’t tell your mother.”
🤣
Really enjoyed your reaction!! Great job!! This cast of seven going back to the 60s and 70s were all major actors who came out in great movies.
I always thought. Why send the body out? He was no longer a threat.
What good would guns do? It's full of acid.
"Are they planning to land on a unknown planet?", well yes, the entire previous scene explained at length that they were obligated to investigate any systemized transmission, that indicates intelligent life.
I think my favorite description I saw was "Everyone ignores the smart woman and then everyone dies except the smart woman and the cat." XD
Sigourney Weaver icônica para sempre nos 4 aliens ....... ponto fundamental......uma senhora atriz de Hollywood
Firing guns aboard a spaceship is a very bad idea for obvious reasons.
At 33:59 the Alien is hanging on the chains watching him.
"What's the matter, the food ain't THAT bad, baby!"
in any other movie this could be a memorable line, but due to this movie being so darn near perfect (sorry pertfect for those that will correct me!) it's lost in a million other great memorable lines; but his little chuckle makes it, at that precise moment he just sees his buddy as choking on the food, like a quick joke before it all goes to hell lol
Thanks guys, wonderful reactions!
RIP Bill Paxton, aka Hudson, the TRUTH💯 AWESOME SHOW, keep up the terrific work 👌 👏 👍 😀
Thank you for watching 🙏🏽
@@ajandselena Right on
Dallas and Ripley had a relationship
🙂
Aliens is awesome. Please react to it next. Love you guys!
0:29 "Sigourney" is pronounced with a hard "g" 😉
1:52 Atmosphere! Just let it wash over you 😌
Building the sets gave room for more creative set decorating.
Actually it's 57 years later. It's mentioned in the beginning of Aliens by the character Burke.
Selena looks like Lady Gaga (compliment). The effects of the alien were done a couple of ways. There was a very tall Nigerian in a suit in most of the scenes, but some of it was animatronics. The closeups of the head and mouth within a mouth. Stuff like that.
The most badass female superhero image ever = Sigourney Weaver back-lit in the doorway with a flamethrower and a cat carrier! ❤💯😃😃
"Mother" is the computer. Recall in 2001 the computer's name is "Hal"
Alien is Fear incarnate
and Ripley is Legend 🙌
kinda mandatory you do Aliens next.
good stuff guys 🍿👀
look forward to it all
stay Awesome ⭐️
Yeah, I was waiting to see your faces when seeing the face hugger for the 1st time, and at 20:59 you didn't disappoint! 😄Now on to ALIENS!
Wow! I didn’t even realize that was the Alien swaying with the chains at 34:00 when I first watched the movie. I thought it was just a piece of machinery with the chains lol
It’s interesting that Parker and Ripley were so at each other at the start-They were the only crew with any commonsense.
It's a lot like being amazed by CD quality, but now more and more appreciating old vinyl when you speak of practical vs CGI. Aliens is still horrific, but is more action-packed.
LUKE! I am your mother! And together as "mother" and son, we can rule the galaxy! 😎
Stay away from him, you b***h!
Another great reaction! So awesome seeing you guys getting into it so much!
I’ll bet the crew wishes Ripley was listened to. I’ll bet Kane wishes he wasn’t such an eager beaver. And I’ll bet Parker would have said F the shares when he got gutted and torn apart.
Ian Holm played Bilbo Baggins.
*The 2nd one is the best one. And guns on a space ship is a no no.*
Well done film❤
I know the DOS computer screens look really dated, but imagine having a computer system on what's basically a tow truck in space whose crew can be "offline" for months: you'd want something stripped down, straightforward, and easy to use, not something that requires hefty updates on a regular basis and that looks pretty to impress customers or buyers.
They use the same trope in Alien Covenant. The crew is woken up by a "Mysterious signal" from a planet, by it happens to be "Country roads" by John Denver!!
Now watch the greatest sequel made, Aliens
The greatest sequel ever made was Godfather 2. Aliens is probably 3rd greatest behind Empire Strikes Back.
@@Serpico360 wrong, I have Caddy Shack 2 as the second best sequel
And make sure you watch ALIENS:THE SPECIAL EDITION. ALIENS,GODFATHER 2, TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, TOP GUN 2:MAVERICK,all great sequels.
@@viclagina347 That’s meant as humor, right?
@@New-tu3mn if you are referring to the Caddy Shack 2 comment, have you seen it?
"Mother" is the name of the Nostromo's AI system.🚀
FYI: You guys watched an extended director's cut of the film.
If you are going to see Aliens, the sequel, you will probably be tempted to see the extended Director's Cut. If you want to be in suspense for the first hour of the film that is very reminiscent of Alien, then I suggest you watch the theatrical cut instead. The Director's Cut committed the cardinal sin that so many movies today are guilty of, showing too much too soon and thus compromised the tension and suspense so carefully crafted.
they got a distrtess call. why they landed , also MOTHER is the name of the ships computer- that room the captain walks into is the whole computer
@34:00ish... Wow! No comment on the chain swinging Alien! They didn't see it! AJ, Selena.... really? =X-D
No I believe it had
nothing to do with what she thought of Dallas and everything to do with the fact that she agreed with Dallas that she wanted to kill this creature and he had to die. But I do believe Ripley is merciful.
The Alien was a man in a Alien suit - a very tall and skinny man.
the crew's annoyance with ripley had more to do with her by-the-book overzealous nature.
also, Ripley didn't hate Dallas, in the original script and in the novel, they were actually sleeping together. if you notice they talk to each other almost like an old married couple.
Fun "Weyland-Yutani is a horrible company" Fact:
The Nostromo actually has two lifeboats.
Um The Excorsist!!
Thanks for your suggestions!! Will look into this!!
The Thing (1982). not the recent one...

1979 I was 16 good times lol
43:42 they did have guns but with the acid blood they were afraid it would eat through the hull
Im sorry but i really dont like the directors cut of alien.
It has acid for blood, that's why they don't kill it. I hate when people don't get that
You edited out the iconic "Alien jump scare"?? Sacrilege. Great reaction anyway.😁
ALIEN was just re-released to theaters on 4/26. But hey, take something bigger than life and subliminate it small as possible on your little screen for a first time viewing instead. Millennials in a nutshell.
Not seen yet, loce you guys... -I know how this works.....scaryy..😍
I love that your first instinct is to kill it forgetting it has acid for blood.
The movie is supper creepy when you realize the Company sent them to get infected by the xenomorph on this derelict space craft and to try to bring it back to earth by using Ash the Android. Really Messed Up.
I'm sure most of your viewers will want you to watch Aliens and there is a Special Edition that runs 20 minutes longer that you should watch.
Great reation!!!!! Keep doing YOU! Check out Starship Troopers, on your own. Its good
Good call on sussing out Ash is an android. Have never seen your eyes so wide.
Ash's voice almost sounds like autotune. One clue that he is a Droid
Ridley Scott has confirmed Alien, Predator, and Blade Runner all are in the same universe. The cool down screen in this movie can't be seen in the police sky car Spinner of Blade Runner.
He hinted at it, but I don’t think the Earth of Alien is the dying shithole that it is in Blade Runner
(Not hard to do.)
Someone operating under very similar circumstances to Burke.
Look at some of HR Giegers art. He is right in a narrow zone between horror and porn, which is a strange place to be.
I do not think one can land a landing craft quietly.
Seems not even safely in this flick.
