A great story, I hope to be a Benedictine monk in the future although I need to have my mental illness healed before I can join a monastery.

Brother Bosco, what an amazing vocation testimony. How refreshing it is to hear young people like you and Francisco answering God’s call and knowing that it is authentic. Just wondering, are you still able to teach? What is your monastery assignment now?

Br. Bosco is truly a blessing to have as part of our community. Currently he is in seminary studying to be a priest. Along with that he is assigned in the Vocation Office as well as the Development Office for the Monastery and Seminary. It is very possible that he will still be able to teach in the future - all up to the Abbot!

He (Bosco) fell in love with the peace and silence therefore he became a monk. When you come from a large family with many children, silence is rare. Maybe the girl he was dating was clingy. Therefore, he preferred to become a monk rather than a married man. Becoming a monk/nun is something you do for yourself and not for God. So that you became monks was a choice you made for your life and not a choice God made for you.

Did the Apostles choose to follow Jesus before He called them? Until He told them to follow Him, they were doing what they chose. In fact, it is Christ Himself who said, "It is not you who have chosen me, but I who have chosen you." (John 15:16). Why would Christ stop calling people to serve Him in special ways after the Resurrection? The Kingdom still needs to be brought to the ends of the earth. God does call people, including to be monks and nuns. Also, if you listen to Br. Bosco, he mentions that because of his family he wanted to chose to have one of his own. His girlfriend gave him a desire to be a father. And, he also admitted that being forced into silence was a great challenge. He's a talker - he did not choose or prefer silence. None of the things he how does were what he initially desires, but God called him to them, and gave him a love for them as well.
