Been there, had to go to the emergency room for a bit of a health scare last december. I have walmart insurance plus financial aid through that hospital. however, what this hospital doesn't tell you up from is that their ER staff is contracted and not part of the hospital so you get two bills, one for use of the facilities and resources, and one from the doctors and their resources. While I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket for the hospital part of the bill I ended up with a massive $3300 from the ER staff with me paying a bit over half of it out of pocket. Walmarts insurance isn't even a benifit, its a trap and a false sense of security.
Usually that happens when you get hmo on your insurance. Stuff like that has to be cleared first before the surgery since you'd need a referral. The same thing applies for dental. That's why I do PPO for dental
I just got hired at Walmart just to get the benefits and now that you've said this, it looks like I'm never going back to the dentist and i better hope I continue this record of never breaking a bone
@Kwantum their dental insurance actually isn't terrible, though. most routine stuff is completely covered. The major stuff they usually pay 50-70%. The biggest issue with Delta, their insurance company, is that it has a $3,000 a year coverage cut off. Also it can be a bit hard to find dentists to accept it depending on where you live.
Just turned 26, and I knew about this about 2 years before my 26th birthday. However, it still hurt all the same lol. Student loan payments on top of taking care of my own insurance is rough with finances. Either make enough money so that you don't have to worry about paying for insurance, or get a job/career that can cover it.
Yeah, until someone wakes up and chooses violence and you're left with the consequences. Both my mom and younger brother have been in accidents because of drunk drivers. There's not enough "eating healthy" in the world that will heal snapped bones and torn ligaments. You can be the safest driver ever and get caught in the crosshairs of being at the right place but the wrong time. I do hope you never experience anything like this, though. The physical healing is already hell but then recovering financially is also huge. And not to mention mentally. I allowed my brother to drive my next vehicle (he was in mine when he had his accident, so I had to get another) and he flinched wrong behind the wheel in what I'm calling a PTSD moment and hit a car thst cost me my front bumper. Until the day the car finally just died, it was literally held up with black shoestrings to make the car look a little more presentable 😅. But I limited his usage of my vehicle after that. Maybe the PTSD isn't his fault, but I can't keep losing cars.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley you’re right anything can happen at any time, but you can’t live life in fear of something that may or may not happen in the future. You have to live according to what you know, not what you think could happen and what we all know is that living a healthy lifestyle will minimize your chance of dying to a natural cause. If I do my best and get taken out by a drunk truck driver or a crackhead oh well that’s life but I do know that there’s a higher chance of me getting a heart attack from eating fried chicken and sitting on my ass all day so guess which one I’m gonna be more concerned with.
@@dravidianking1298 I'd actually like to see the studies on that, the likelihood of having a heart attack versus being in a not-at-fault car accident, especially here in the U.S., where both are so high. And I didn't say live in fear, I didn't mean for my comment to sound like fearmongering. But if you don't die from the accident, you're going to need medical care and time off from work to heal, but still pay bills. Dying would be the easy and cheap part, especially if you don't mind your death being as cheap as possible. But being left alive is what's going to take a lot of money and resources to get back up and going, unless you just happen to have enough in the bank to cover everything out of pocket.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley I understand all of that, those were just examples not meant to be taken literally, if I survive I’m obviously going to suffer but that’s besides the point. I’m just saying in the short and long term we can’t prepare for every possible accident that’s out of our control but there are health issues we have the power to prevent or at least do our best to stop from getting worse if they’re already developing. I agree living in fear wasn’t the best way to say it but basically we shouldn’t just use the excuse “a person can shoot/crash/kidnap me tomorrow, why should I bother thinking about my health when I could die, be paralyzed, be traumatized etc.” cause chances are, unless you live in a hood going through beef or a literal warzone you won’t and will prolly suffer slowly then die later on to something you could have prevented but chose not to. The reason I used the heart attack example is cause I have a family friend in the hospital that just experienced one 2 days ago. He always justified his eating overboard amounts of meat, unhealthy junk food, binge drinking, and smoking by saying his job as an electrician is dangerous and he’ll prolly die from being electrocuted before he gets a heart attack/disease so he might as well do whatever. Not even mentioning he has a dui as well so he could’ve died or as we both know got in an accident *very easily* but that isn’t what took him out, it was long term health shit he had the power to prevent. I’m not afraid of that happening to me but that type of attitude is very common and it’s terrible to see the results because they could’ve done more to stop it.
I had a friend who was a foreign exchange student when I was in high school and he was the safest driver I knew. Of course he didn't have a license or insurance so the burden was on him to be safe. The problem with having health care for "free" (either via taxes or subsidized by your employer) is that there is not incentive for people to stay healthy or to manage their health expenses. The problem with paying for health care is that people won't go in for any preventive or cautionary care because as a whole humans are pretty stingy with their money. I haven't been treated at a hospital for anything since shots from when I was a kid. Some of it is DNA, some of it is working to stay healthy, and some is just plain bad things didn't happen to me. Wish I wasn't paying a ton for insurance when all I really need is something to take care of me in case of an accident. Would be better if I could get a 100k bond and if in 10 or 20 years I didn't use it I got to keep the portion I paid into it and start another one. Guess HSA's are starting to look like that.
