Stacey's hair is so healthy looking I'd like to see her show it off with more length. Adding color dimension adds youth and softness. Great suggestions, Justin!
This series is amazing - real people, real hair issues. So true about the language we use with our hairdresser - lack of layering in the front totally get it. Thank you.
The subtle changes you made to Stacey’s hair made a big difference. Looked much more harmonious. Stay safe out there, seems that the outdoors have recently become more dangerous
Thank you Justin for the last comments, one of the most important pieces of advice ever. One technique does not suit all...multiple skills applied individually. 💕
I agree with you! Anytime a stylist limits themself to one technique-you’ll end up with cookie cutter hairstyles! I’m a retired stylist and I rarely used just one technique for a haircut! Why would there be 20+ ways to texturize if you only needed one? Anyone can cut hair, but you want your stylist to use their artistry to create a flattering look for you! I liked the idea of a longer look for Stacy! She has the perfect face shape for it!
I was really glad to hear you mention curly hair in this video. I'm an older woman with naturally curly hair. I've watched several of your videos and the models always have straight hair in the videos that I've seen. Would you please, please, PLEASE make some videos about how those of us with textured hair? Thank you!
I think both short and long look great! I'm currently growing out my hair, so I would choose the longer style. What I find amazing about this series is how minor the changes are and what a big impact they make. That small change in length made her look so much younger!
Wow, she has beautiful eyes! I prefer the shorter version you suggested, especially the slight angling front to back and growing out shorter layers a bit. She is blessed to have a great head of good quality hair, so she could totally pull off the longer style though. Thank you for sharing your observations and instruction on addressing them. Very informative content.
Brilliant to see huge potential with relatively small changes in cut and / or styling. Very helpful. Especially for the many women out there who have innate style , but aren’t barbie doll models with perfect hair , bone structure and youth . Thanks a million !
Regarding your techniques, systems, etc... finding a hair stylist that actually is knowledgeable in cutting hair is a lost art for sure! I love that you explain everything so well in your videos. Side note: I always thought because of my fine and thing hair, layers would help give me height on top since the top of my skull is actually kind of flat and I need the height but I want long hair... I had asked a stylist for a long shag and she said the ends would be too stringy.. but I wanted it kind of rock and roll. 😕 Do you take clients in your salon? lol
Thank you! I appreciate that! My wife would say that I over explain EVERYTHING! Lol. Yes I do take clients in the salon. My next opening is mid January. You can go to www.hickoxstudio.com and email me for an appointment if you want to look for a spot. Love to meet ya!
Stacey had great hair to begin with but Justin’s tweaks made it even better! So good, and now I know what to do about my flat-back profile! Thanks, Justin and Stacey!
Very pretty model! I also thought it was hard to make it better, but the small tweaks are nice. I would do your suggestions and then let the top layers grow out.
Wow, Stacy is a lucky woman! She has beautiful hair! I love the color change you recommended, and I really love the idea of her growing her hair longer like any one of the hair models you featured.
Pretty model, gorgeous eyes. Can't pick just one style, she looks great in both. I never thought about top layers being to short, learned something new. Thanks for the new episode.
Stacey's hair really benefited by the high & low lights. The best example of this coloring technique I've seen.. I lost track of the styles you suggested. I don't know calligraphy hair cutting. In a few minutes it was clear knowing multiple cutting methods, experience and good questions will achieve the best possible haircut for the client. Thank you as always for an insightful video! 💖💝💖
Thank you- I love these videos from you. Getting my long (mid back) lush (lots of hair-so lucky) silver (thanks, Mom for the great color) locks cut on Friday. Jury is still out on length and final style - going to see a new stylist and have lots of "understanding" thanks to you. At 60+ a new look is needed.
I love your information!! Thank you soo much! You have helped me so much in communicating to my stylist what I want and I’m growing my hair out now and loving the length ( below my shoulders) growing my bangs out too and styling them to the side .
At my age (60) First of all , i love your models hair style and original look ! Then you made your first changes and I even loved it more on her and for my self too! Since mine is in the m and m cut, I have been letting it grow the last couple months because my natural after Menopause Curls are in , so i needed the length……. I will remember your cut and suggestions on the video for my next trim :)
Love these! Just wondering if you’ll show someone with super straight hair. I don’t want to use much heat on my hair so often the ideas of layers and waves etc don’t work for me 🙏🏼
Same here..I can come out of the salon and it look lovely..an hour later it's fell out..it's straight again...iv finally stopped buying every gadget and product out there to try to achieve a high maintenance style and am going with what I've been given...poker straight hair..and making the best of it..even if it's not what I particularly want...but it's saving me a ton of time and loads of money 😅
Dear Justin, that was fun to see her head on another body! She looked great in everything. Loved all the tips. I'd like to see a model with glasses for your ideas on bangs & glasses. Thx
Wow! This was great! Thank you to Stacy for sharing her photos! I really liked ALL of your suggestions for Stacy, but I will say the longer hair length surprised me and I think she could look fabulous with a longer length as well.
Another great suggestion video.. love the suggestions! It’s amazing what kind of logical changes and description does to clarify. Just a beautiful lady with features that are enhanced..really pops! Love these..changes are not scary and “just enough”.. Thank you!!
lol, mercy, thank you for the building walls comment. It brought back one of my husband's funniest stories from his NAPA days. The sales men were building a cook shed behind the warehouse. Howard went out to check on them, since he had construction experience. They had the end rafters, up on ladders and trying to get the walls put up under the rafters. He could barely tell the story without laughing to the point of tears. I knew most of the sales people and the 'ring leader' could fill out paperwork, but he had no clue as to how to put up a shed! He actually told Howard he knew what he was doing, to go on back inside. Needless to say the head HR guy called Howard and he was drafted to take over the project. I sure do miss that guy! He was a gem!
You are a master at esthetics! So many may know how to cut but not as many knows how to get the balance and shape for each individual! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for sharing your talents! You are truly an artist and I can tell you have worked hard to master your craftsmanship. I love all the beautiful outdoor hikes and bike ride you take (I am an outdoor enthusiast, camping, hiking, love nature). I appreciate this lovely women who send in their photos and allow us all to benefit from your expertise!🌲🌳✨🚵🏻♀️ 💕
Justin, have really loved this series on Mistakes That Age You Faster! Wish you were able to do personal hair consultations on a Zoom meeting, or even submitting a picture to you for your comments! (For a fee. Less expensive than a flight to Portland.) Need to communicate better with my stylist about face shape and face features. Will keep watching!
First off… Stacy you have such pretty silky looking hair! I honestly like all the suggestions for enhancement, so it’s what ever Stacy is comfortable with doing. I tend to not get low lights because every stylist I see goes so dark it’s almost black underneath! Eek! 😬 Love the subtle highlights and the shorter length and last long hair suggestion. Great hair advice as always Justin! I am currently missing my former stylist so much, I am going to drive 2 hours back to her to fix my hair, ( as you can see in my profile pic! Haha). I’m not going to risk throwing more money down the drain with the local stylists here again! Lol Justin you’ve helped me understand what I used to love going to my stylist and why I need to treasure her and not think all of them are right for my hair. Thank You!
That was fun! Stacey thank you for sharing your picture, you are striking! I would actually grow it out, then if you don’t like it go with the shorter idea. I think it’s hard to look good in yr profile. Love the outdoor scenery!
Love the suggestions (especially the coloring idea...I completely agree)! Personally I would go longer, but I like being able to pull it back. I like the versatility and I think shorter hair is not as versatile.
Stacey has a wonderful head of hair and lovely eyes, for sure!! I mainly noticed at first glance that the very long length made her look very slim. Justin, Thank You for all your "lengthy" explanations, we really Need This!!! We have been in the dark way Too long!! 🙏🎀🎆😘
I loved the long locks with long layers on Stacy. I was curious about her wispy bangs if she was to keep the bangs, Justin. Would you go thicker, keep them light and airy, or side-swept? Once again you hit it out of the park on all your suggestions for Stacy. She is beautiful and brave.
Would you do a video on what those techniques mean you mentioned in this video. What’s the difference in razor cut vs calligraphy, etc., etc. Just curious. i don’t think I’ve ever had a razor cut, but for sure layering and texturizing. Otherwise, foreign language!
All of your suggestions were relatable, Justin! Actually I was surprised by the long hair options but I liked them. Your mock up of Stacey on another body wasn’t crazy at all. And I agree, too short on top flattens the shape especially dangerous for me since I have a flat head to begin with. I am currently growing out a bad cut. For some reason my stylist forgot my hair texture (multi textural) placing blunt layers on one side and barely touched the other. The side with layers feels bulky and tends to flip up, the other side just looks lifeless. I actually ended up taking my Sally shears and placed a few layers on that side myself. (😳. I know,! it’s not the first time and would bet other viewers have done this too!). At least it is less limp looking and when it’s first washed, with some product I make it a little messy and it looks more balanced and fun. But days when I don’t shampoo, I have a heck of a time. Fortunately my hair grows quickly! Confessions of a woman who owns Sally shears. 😆
Lol! I love that. Hey, I’m not opposed to people cutting their hair at home at all. I actually created an entire master class that teaches people exactly how to cut and color their own hair at home. Sometimes getting to the stylist just isn’t convenient and I think people need to be able to take care of things themselves when they need to or want to. That’s their right in my opinion. I’m so glad you like the video and I really appreciate your support and the feedback. Thank you so much.
Oh my, I've had to do that many times...to the point that I just became convinced there was no need to return to a salon. I now color and cut my hair at home, sad to say
@@SometimeAgo65 Nothing sad about that. Sounds like you know what you like and have skill. I am sad my stylist of 18 months had a bad day and it’s been a rough 7 weeks. I am out of town taking care of my brother post surgery. Going to see my niece’s stylist. He lifted her hair to a stunning silver and a beautiful cut so I figure why not see if he can create a better shape while I let it grow a bit more. Only problem is if it’s great I will have to travel 500 miles for follow ups. LOL.
Great tips and well done Justin - Stacy has pretty hair from the get go but your suggestions step it up to the next level. Anxious to see a model who has a little "chub" on her cheeks like this cheeky gal, my round face is challenging to say the least. Thanks again ~ Gale :)
Thank you so much! And you’re too funny! “A little chub on her cheeks “! Love it. I select randomly from the submissions so I’m sure at some point I will run through pretty much every face shape and hair texture. I appreciate the feedback for sure.
Liked all of the suggestions but the longer with less layering looked fabulous on her, my favorite. Loved what you said about the consultation. I can show my stylist a pic, and she questions me until what I say, and the way she cuts, is the same thing.
LOVE this series. Please keep it up as you are able to share so much of your knowledge with all of us. I like the first option you gave. Made her look younger and “lifted”. She’s beautiful in any option though.
Stacey is gorgeous!!!…I like the hair longer on her… but, she started out, fabulous!…your little tweaks made a difference….. Staceys, eyes and face, in my opinion can pull off anything!!!….Justin, you are a rockstar!!!!…I adore you!!!💜💜💜💜💜cinematic experience!!!…love it!!!…
Once again, I pick the longer version. I did like the shorter version with coloring too, the added fullness at the crown was great, but I'm all for versatility and longer hair gives you that. Your information at the end was great. I now know why I've never had a haircut I liked. I've never been to a stylist either. It's nice to know there are people like you who actually care and don't look at everyone walking through the door as something to snip away at like Edward Scissorhands. 💕💕💕
Referred my most excellent hairdresser to your channel! He was eager 🤩 to give your channel a look. Y’all are both good at your craft. I call my guy “hair whisperer.”
Thank you! I really appreciate the vote of confidence. I’m also glad you found someone who’s working out so well for ya! That’s great to hear. There are a lot of amazing stylists out there!
Beautiful model! I am a short hair style person myself and to my surprise I really liked the longer options. One things is for sure she can’t go wrong either way.
Excellent video ...thank you Justin & Stacey 🙏🏼...the suggestions are great. Stacey's hair looks so much better cut at the angle of her jaw...the small but significant lift at the top back and the colour suggestions...are you going to have it done Stacey? 😁🙏🏼💕
I loved the small changes you made. Her hair looks beautiful as is, but you definitely improved her look with the back a little shorter plus the highlights. Just beautiful! Great info at the end. I think someone else also asked this….what is the calligraphy technique?
This is awesome series! This model is beautiful! I like all of the options on her. It takes awhile to grown it out for the long version. So how often do you need to have it trimmed?
I love the highlights & lowlights and the little shorter cut. I was a little surprised by the longer style, I think the longer hair with the layering around the face was my favorite.
The color changes were, to me, the game changer. If possible, can you comment on the models face shape in regard to cutting/styling to compliment that shape. Thanks to Stacey attractive either cut.
The high and low lights added so much dimension to Stacey’s hair and totally brightened her face. So whether she goes long or short both of which I thought looked great on her, she can’t got wrong with the high and low lights.
Stacy has great hair. I actually loved both options you gave for her and think she would look great with slightly shorter hair or longer hair, she really can't go wrong either way.
Liked both, think lifestyle, and where she lives matter alot. I live in Florida and think shorter is better, unless I am planning on wearing it up all the time. Living in a cold climate requires a hat, that u pull off or put on,and kinda squashes the hair, been there,my hair was longer, also,I need something fast, she might enjoy styling her hair ,or,may be quite good at it. Great video!
Hi Justin 🙋🏻♀️ I just started watching your videos and I love them ! I really love your approach, experience, tips and tricks and suggestions. Just a few simple steps for a youthful look 👏🏻 I agree with your suggestions of making Stacys length shorter and giving her colour more dimension. Can’t wait til your next video, in the meantime I’m binge-watching ! Keep the amazing advice and stunning scenery coming 😘🏞
Love both suggestions she has a fantastic head of hair👍 wondering if you can do a tutorial on what to do with back parts especially with thin hair thanks
Thank you so much! And I totally agree. I absolutely will be doing a video on that topic specifically. It just got pushed back until mid to end of December but it is definitely coming.
Or once you get the incorrect cut with layers to high up, how do you grow them out and still have a good style. Current situation! Super Fine, thin hair gal here and my hair does not grow fast it is a very slow process. Been growing layers out from last over layered hair cut. Finally got top layer almost to shoulder, agreed to shorten the back (3 inches which is 8 years of growth) and as always they layered to the crown. Yep back where I started from. Other hair frustration my hair does not hold!!! I fix it it looks great ten minutes later fallen and flat!! I am currently using spray you suggest in videos @JustinHickox still fall out. So 99% of the time I wear hair up. Fine thin hair has be the hardest to cut ever!
Yes I agree with your suggestions. They are great. I think her tone should be cooler. I was surprised it looked good on her shorter, but I like it longer. I have found myself in similar situations with my hair. I think if I get some internal layers it helps. For me it can be slightly poofy on my sides. Even though I have fine pretty straight hair. But if my layers are too short, there’s a disconnect. Any suggestions to explain to stylist?
I love the style you recommend, but finding someone who can do layering well can be a challenge. I like the darker colour a lot and the lighter one Too! Your passion for what you do is wonderful. Thank you.
Awesome tips, thanks! Stacy looked great with both suggestions. I think having the option to put it up is one reason I the longer hair is a great idea. It depends on what she wants in the long run. Beautiful model. 😊
The information at the end was great! My stylist is a great lady, I really do like her. Does she understand my face shape and texture? Your model would look great with the curtain bangs. I had/have a similar style. I'm in my mid 50's and for me...I'm over having long hair just to have hair as long as my adult daughter. But...! I don't want to cut it all off without a plan. This issue has gone on for a couple of years. I really think the bob looks great! The lowlights look so good!
Every time I watch your videos, I am in awe of your “eye”. I wish all hairdressers had as much acumen and vision, as you do.
I would love to see ways to make a hair casual, formal, professional, soft, wild… all with the same haircut
Ooh, yes. Great idea!
yes! great suggestion!
Yesssss perfect!
Definitely
Yes!
I think Stacy looks wonderful in both before and after shots. That said, I really love the longer option.
I think the longer options could be amazing as well!
I think more older women should try a longer option🤔
I can’t do longer my hair is thinning and really sh*t. Staceys hair is BEAUTIFUL before

Stacey could go longer with dimensional highlights.

Loved the tweaks, the hightlights and lowlights! Just a little shorter looked great! Also thanks for the info :)
You’re so welcome! And I agree I think more often than not I like the small tweaks more than the dramatic changes so far in these videos.

LOVE the shortened adjustment with highlights... but... pretty Stacy could totally rock longer hair. She has gorgeous hair! Well done!
Thank you Justin and Stacy for sharing. Justin, you work so hard for these tutorials! You are phenomenal

Very pretty model! I also thought it
was hard to make it better, but the small tweaks are nice. I would do your suggestions and then let the top layers grow out.

That little bit of a cut and subtle highlights really added so much more sparkle to her face and eyes!
Wow, Stacy is a lucky woman! She has beautiful hair! I love the color change you recommended, and I really love the idea of her growing her hair longer like any one of the hair models you featured.

Wow! This was great! Thank you to Stacy for sharing her photos! I really liked ALL of your suggestions for Stacy, but I will say the longer hair length surprised me and I think she could look fabulous with a longer length as well.
Love the shorter length and the added highlights and layering. Subtle changes that make a bit so subtle difference!

Wonderful suggestions that I found very helpful as I have similar type hair. Thank you, Justin, for sharing your wealth of experience with us!
I like the slight shortening of the style and more dimension in color.
It’s crazy how much a tiny bit of dimension in color can change things right!

LOL.
I absolutely LOVE your expertise with real life women.
Great tips and well done Justin - Stacy has pretty hair from the get go but your suggestions step it up to the next level. Anxious to see a model who has a little "chub" on her cheeks like this cheeky gal, my round face is challenging to say the least. Thanks again ~
Gale :)
Thank you so much! And you’re too funny! “A little chub on her cheeks “! Love it. I select randomly from the submissions so I’m sure at some point I will run through pretty much every face shape and hair texture. I appreciate the feedback for sure.
I could see what you meant about the back of Stacey’s hair looking not right. I loved the shorter cut that made her hair fuller.
You are so good at explaining the different issues that affect a haircut.... Wow!
I love your adventures while you talk about hair! 😍
Another great video. I love the small change you made for Stacy 👍🏼
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I’m so glad you liked it.
Beautiful model! I am a short hair style person myself and to my surprise I really liked the longer options. One things is for sure she can’t go wrong either way.
06:15 - wonderful! I just returned from the hairsalon with "the angle", I am loving it, such a feel-good-cut.
What stunning blue eyes Stacy has 💙
Exactly! I totally agree!
Great video! Love the scenery, I think Stacy looks great either way, Thank you for the tips on hair love all the advice you give. Thank you!
Excellent video ...thank you Justin & Stacey 🙏🏼...the suggestions are great. Stacey's hair looks so much better cut at the angle of her jaw...the small but significant lift at the top back and the colour suggestions...are you going to have it done Stacey? 😁🙏🏼💕
Ty, I’m a 1st time viewer and I love this !! so informative/helpful 🤗👏🏻
Definitely the little shorter version with color dimensions. Very elegant looking.
Right! Small shifts huge impacts!
Hi. Thank You and Stacy for sharing this video! For me the first option with short and high light looks Better for her! Thank! Good Blessings You!
Good day Justin 🦋 looking forward to this video!
Thank you! Hope you like it! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Great suggestions! I love the first one! Stacey is beautiful! 😍❤️
The changes you made Justin, were perfect, making Stacey more youthful.
I love these long looks. I haven't been able to go that long lately because of thinning due to age but if my hair thickens back up, I'm in!
Great video as always. 👍 You always give great advice and tips. Thank you! 😉
Love your suggestions for longer hair on her really made her look younger!
Great tips, the shaping up to give fuller look and the highlights and lowlights🥰
OMG. I was going to ask for layers on top to help with height!! Ugh so glad i saw this
Stacy has great hair. I actually loved both options you gave for her and think she would look great with slightly shorter hair or longer hair, she really can't go wrong either way.
I actually like the idea of a longer option…the one that had the curtain bangs with long layers, in particular. ☺️
I really liked all the modifications! It looks like if she chooses to use them it would grow out nicely to the long cut if she wants to do that too.
Thank you.
I love the shorter haircut and color tweaks! It all makes sense.
Thank you! So glad you liked it! I totally agree with the curtain bangs. They’re definitely a solid option for her!
Such great advice! Thanks for sharing!
As always you are spot on.A little shorter and a few snips here and there is all that is needed.Longer looked great too.
