- As a prequel to the events of Homeworld 1, "Deserts of Kharak" took on the unenviable challenge of translating 3D space fleet mechanics into compelling ground-based combat... and for the most part, they succeeded! The art is beautiful, the story enjoyable, and the gameplay familiar. Alas, this game is also very short, leaving you wishing for a longer and greater challenge. Still, if you love the Homeworld franchise, it's worth a go!

Oh yeah, this game’s great, for whatever reason I played through the 3rd or 4th campaign I subconsciously started a type of “Minimal Casualties” run where I try to carefully advance my units and if one of the units in their assigned groups is low health I rush them back to either Rachel, the support carries, or The Kapisi where I shunt most of the power to repairs rather than shields or sensors

So if I remember right, this was made by the same people from Sierra that made Homeworld 1 and 2. They didnt have the rights originally but when Gearbox found out they were working on a "totoally not homeworld origin story" they worked with them to get the full rights to have a proper story.
This game was called ship breakers or something like that. But when they got the rights to call it homeworld they eventually repurposed the ship breakers name to make hard space ship breakers which is a game where you take apart space ships and salvage then for money.
I would love to see a campaign run of this but if Pravus did i would hope he doesn't skip through the story like he has done some times in the past,also praise Pravus.
Cataclysm /emergence has a better story, though

I know its like a decade late but seeing you try to play starcraft 2 would be entertaining, especially since this game is so similar as a RTS :) I was surprised to see that you hadn't in fact made a video on starcraft 2 yet. Please consider it!!
