Freed Hamas Hostage Yocheved Lifshitz, 85, Says She Was "Treated Well" After Enduring "Hell"

- Hamas has released two Israeli civilians held hostage in Gaza, 79-year-old Nurit Cooper and 85-year-old Yocheved Lifshitz, with the militant group saying they were let go for "humanitarian reasons and poor health grounds." Hamas shared a video of armed fighters releasing the elderly hostages that shows Lifshitz reaching back to shake the hand of one of her captors and saying "Shalom" - the Hebrew word for "peace." We feature comments from Lifshitz upon her release as she describes humane treatment by her captors and expresses criticism of Israel's intelligence failure, and we get a response from Palestinian American journalist Rami Khouri. "She represents probably the essence, I think, of what makes Judaism such a special religion. It is based on ethics … and the pursuit of justice," Khouri says. The struggle of Palestinians "is not with Jewish people. It is with the Zionist movement that became the state of Israel, which is widely recognized around the world as an apartheid system."

Lifshitz said she was forced to walk on wet ground and descended into an underground tunnel system she likened to a spiderweb, where she was greeted by “people who told us we believe in the Quran” and promised “not to harm” her and her fellow hostages.
Lifshitz said she was initially grouped together with 25 other people before her captors separated her into a smaller group with four other individuals from her kibbutz. She said they slept on mattresses on the floor of the tunnels, ate the same food as Hamas fighters and received regular treatment from doctors during her incarceration.

“They really took care of the sanitary side of things so that we didn’t get sick,” Lifshitz added.
Each of the five hostages in her group received their own doctor and there was a paramedic present who supervised medication, she said.
“They were very generous to us, very kind. They kept us clean,” Lifshitz said. “They took care of every detail. There are a lot of women and they know about feminine hygiene and they took care of everything there.”
I don't care what she says. Hamas is a terrorist organization who kidnapped innocent civilians. They murder civilians in their homes. Isarel defending itself does not make them "the terrorist" just because hamas are cowards who hid among palestian civilians who are now unintended causalities.

The irony is in your comment, since this channel edited the 'hell' part out. The full interview is available uncut. Why did Democracy Now leave that out?
