Hamas has been very controlled in their operations and in their regard for the hostages. But many videos show angry Palestinian civilians attacking Israelis (like the clip in this video where the hostage was being protected by his captors against a beating). Things get out of control, and bad things happen. There are monsters and saints on both sides. It is my hope that the men in the video around Shani will be identified and brought to justice.

These detainees were treated well, so we see them greeting their captors as a sign of gratitude. On the other side , the liberated Palestinian detainees were mistreated and spoke to the press about the mistreatment they faced. Each reaction shows the experience that the person went through.

I've seen an extended video on the release of the captives. It's obvious that there is much mutual respect, with hugs and hand shakes exchanged between those released and Hamas. Everyone is clean, hair brushed and glistening, hair buns in place, huge smiles, clear skin, clean clothes. All a testament to how well the Israelis were treated in the past few weeks.

How amazing to see people subjected to sudden kidnapping feeling so obviously in harmony with those who took them. Some will bleat about this being Stockholm syndrome but it looks more like simple respect from people who were treated well. While I don't rule out that some of the behavior of the freed hostages could be Stockholm Syndrome, I also don't doubt they were treated humanely as possible under the circumstances. I can't say the same for the civilian victims of October 7th who were terrorized and killed- Hamas is no humanitarian organization.

On the contrary, a relative of one of the released hostages - a young girl - penned a letter not only expressing deep and sincere thanks for the caring treatment of the child (the woman said that the child felt like a queen and that she only has positive feelings about the experience), but she also acknowledged the plight of their own people…
Obviously the act of taking hostages is not a commendable thing nor should it be taken lightly, but when looking at the entirety of the situation and comparing the treatment of hostages on both sides (and Israel having exponentially MORE), the contrast is clear.

That is what Yocheved Lifshitz the 85 year old lady who was released to the Egyptian Red Cross said. I think she said they had a cucumber, and tortillas, that she ate exactly the same as the Hamas guard did, but that was all any of them had, guard included. They's shared it equally with the Israeli hostages.
She also said the toilets were clean, they cleaned them, we didn't, and they knew how to care for their hygiene needs.
There was the lady who had the Hamas fighters in her house for a few hours as well. She was recounting it, saying they were speaking Arabic on entering, but switched to English. She said there were 2 children with her, and they responded by saying they were safe, and we are Muslim.
She said there was some fruit in the bowl, and one of the armed Hamas fighters asked her if he could eat one of the bananas. She said he could, which he did.
When she was recounting the last bit she looked and sounded incredulous, but had said she had to be honest. After all an armed fighter asking the householder to eat a piece of fruit rather than simply taking it, does not fit with the west's MSM.

They're all so fortunate in that it seems most of them or for enough of the time the hostages were quartered with minders who weren't violent towards them (as terrifying as they may have seemed), because Hamas is a large group of people (plus the other militant groups) and the individuals all bring their own traumas and experiences to their struggle, and for some individuals in Gaza their psychosis- the mental health situation in Gaza is horrific and for unstable people you never know what could set them off or how they could behave - I've long suspected Hamas probably contains among its Qassam brigade membership individuals who are deeply disturbed and violent, as well as members who are capable of reasonableness and treating hostages with decency
