Hi Tanya great tips great videos I know you say living on state pension but think it's relatable to single person on universal credit budget too maybe put single person on budget living on a state benefit budget or maybe cost of living budget for one person haul or meal prep or what I eat in a week as single person on a budget something like that too in your tittles for the search bar draw more people in x I found it relatable and helpful x
Thank you so much for your suggestion. Appreciated. I seem to be attracting a varied viewer base for the reasons you've described. Definitely in the current climate people from all walks of life are finding it difficult to make ends meet. x
Greetings from North bay Ontario. Great video Tania. Thank you. We are still in the midst of a Polar Vortex giving us temps of -31 Celsius! Stew sounds very appealing at the minute:) I spent half a day organizing my shopping book. Thank you...and jiggling my budget having to had used a chunk of savings for my $2,600 car repair.
I can't even begin to think about those sort of temperatures. Its 3 degrees here and freezing fog. That's bad enough. Gravy dinners, stews are so warming this time of year. x
@LivingonaUKStatePension Don't forget to make the tea loaf for us. .with recipe please:) I haven't had tea loaf since I left England. Crumpets in Brum were called pikelets LOL
I buy a tray of chicken thighs 12 for £5 in tesco and a tray of 5% fat minced steak from tesco , i seperate into portions and freeze in zip bags , this is a lot of meals for £9,49 . Roasted chicken , broth , curry , chicken pot pie , casserole, mince pie , mince and yorkshire or bumplings , bolagnase, burgers , its endless . I also keep a good cupboard store .
Wish the leeks were that price in Australia 🇦🇺 Dog 🐕 poo 💩 should be cleaned up because in Oz the mess attracts flies. The fish sounds like a good buy. Campfire 🔥 stew sounds interesting 🤔 Nice video 👍🇦🇺⛄️
For anyone who is looking for a 'treat' when out for coffee with a friend or like me just by myself .... Subway do a good 'older person's discount' - e.g a 6 inch sandwich, bread and filling of choice including copious salad items and a latte coffee' is under £3. Myself and my two sisters (we're all over 60) met on Sunday and had the deal - less than £9 for the three of us! It's not advertised but there is a special discount code at the till :) We just asked for it lol.
That sounds reasonable, alas we have only a very tiny Subway thats takeaway only. Well done on getting the discount. As someone said if you don't ask the answer is always going to be NO! x
re dog poo: I live in Western Australian and it is law to pick up after your dog but of course not everyone does. Parks and dog friendly areas usually have free poo bags attached to the rubbish bins. I'm constantly amazed at your food prices, even doubling or tripling into $A it is still cheaper! Thank you for sharing Tanya.
You've got yourself some great bargains there Tania. Those unwaxed lemons are very reasonably priced; I can't remember how much they are from Tesco but I'm sure they are quite a bit more. I always go for unwaxed lemons when baking a lemon cake.
We buy yellow labels and then work a menu around them. It’s a great experiment and I hope you get your years saving from your frugal living I think you are doing really well. Rebecca
I'm sharing my journey. Lots of the food I prepare is very healthy and cooked from scratch. The occasional bits are less so. But I adopt the 80/20 rule. x
Dog poo France - it tends to vary from town to town how strictly it’s enforced. In many touristy places, particularly seafront, there are poo bag dispensers (free) at regular intervals. On the Côte d’Azur dog pee is the bigger concern - both quickly dry out in the heat but the pee both smells and encourages other dogs to pee over it. At local dog training (open air) we were expected to exercise our dogs down the lane outside first, again poo was seen as less of a problem as it we’d quickly bag it and bin it, pee was frowned upon more as every dog then passing the same spot would be distracted/want to pee over it.
The Slimming World 10% discount was interesting to know. However, I am no longer a Slimming World member BUT I take advantage of Iceland's 10% discount day on Tuesdays, which is very helpful. I have to say that I have always been impressed by Asda's reduced price products, very generous reductions, unlike some other supermarkets who might take a measly 10 or 20p off a £3 item (for example) with a Use By date that day. I am new to your blogs and will now watch with interest, as I am in a very similar circumstance to yourself. ❤
Hello and welcome. Its nice to pick up a bargain here and there, it all helps bring the overall cost down. I've used the Iceland 10% deal quite a few times over the last year. Especially when I have the grandchildren round, I'll buy pizza etc. x
I once tried a bag of sultanas that had cottonseed oil, from Sainsbury's, I think. Never again, vile stuff. It's one of the foods I think is worth paying extra for organic, partly because a 500g bag lasts me a long time.
Iceland offer a 10% discount for anyone over 60 on a Tuesday, but I'm not sure if that applies to online orders, I don't drive anymore so I'll make enquiries.
I use powdered milk, unbranded in Aldi which is less than one fifth of the price in another supermarket. And it lasts a long time. I can always buy fresh if I ever want it (very rarely). Prices seem to be much lower in the UK though I am told our wages tend to be higher. (I am in Australia.). Thank you for the video.
In my country Finland, you are supposed to pick up after your dog but I don't think there are any laws around it. In the winter people tend to kick snow over it instead of picking them up and you know it's spring when there's dog poo everywhere.
Yes of course here in Australia you are required by law to clean up dog poop in public areas, some walking areas even have stand which you can tear off bags to take with you to collect the turds, .....can't tell you the last time I saw dog poop in public however I did see someone let their dog pee on swings in the park..........
The free bags are a great idea. I have bags in every coat/jacket pocket to make sure I don't forget. Unfortunately, there will always be those who don't pick up. Thank you for the information. X
Yes I live in France and I mostly pick up my dog poo, I live in the country and if she goes somewhere where no one will walk in it or in the ditch, I leave it, but if it’s in a bothersome place I always pick it up.
I'm American and this is very interesting to me. Do you have community free food pantries there ? We have them here and they really assist in saving grocery cost of retirees especially.
Yes there are food banks. Some you need an official referral to and others you can just got to. Yes lots of people are struggling with the price of food on top of all the other price rises.
@LivingonaUKStatePension. There are also surplus food hubs in the U.K. not just food banks, the surplus food hubs are open to anyone because the idea of them is to stop food going into landfill rather than being ‘means tested’ I have 2 local to me and go every few days to pick up bread, fruit, veg, herbs, also often have crisps, tins etc. and there’s a cafe there that does very cheaply priced breakfasts and tea and coffee. I am in South Wales. Ask your local citizens advice or at the library for your nearest surplus food hubs you can save alot of money by topping up there or going there first!
And also, find out if you have a community shop at your local church, we do. We can get a food shop twice a week which includes eggs, bread, milk, fruit and veg and 5 or 6 cupboard items plus a frozen item (many choices) for £5.00. There is a £5 yearly membership fee
Pensioners get 10% off every Tuesday in Iceland, my daughter lives with me and likes Pepsi, £2.15 a bottle in most supermarkets, £2 in Iceland, then with my discount it is £1.80 a bottle, a 35p saving!
Hi they are over £1 kilo here we occasionally get 2kg bags for 19p around Christmas and Easter from supermarkets to bring customers in but we are a potato growing country Think we are same price food wise as in France not to sure though food shop is now 150% more than post covid at least but you guys have cheaper gas and electric cost me £150 for gas and £150 electric this month car fuels I thinks more expensive too here ha I need to camp out in callis had enough of it over here 😂
Every Christmas and Easter our supermarkets have price wars on the Christmas vegetables. This year Asda were doing Potatoes 8p 2.5 kilo , carrots 8pkilo, parsnips 8p kilo, sprouts 8p kilo. etc Each store competing. I prepped loads and froze and stored the rest! x
I'm going to Iceland tonight (Food Warehouse as it's called up here in my part of Scotland). SW question, if you dont mind? Do you syn the batter on your fish or, sacrilege 😮throw it away? 😊🤓
I'm at target so the batter is a treat. Even if I wasn't I wouldn't throw it. I've always laid the cooked fish on kitchen towel to get the oil out of the fish before plating up. Take your SW card to The Warehouse for the 10% off. x
i always feel sad when people get most redused food and low brands id enjoy my money i no you ahve to save but also you can afford to have nicer food to xx
Not everybody has that luxury. As i said that shop was a snapshot of what was needed to compliment the tons of veg I have from Christmas. I most certainly do have nice food all cooked from scratch. x
I've never seen any. Trying to get a replacement recycling bin off my council is hard work. And somebody wrote on the local Facebook recently that they are charging you for them. x
Curious about your video..but while good for some, the amount of carbohydrates in your purchases is not healthy for those on special diet such as type 2 diabetics..Carbohydrates turn to sugar as they digest and store to unhealthy fat and spike a glucose level in the blood. Having said that, I think it’s awful the way the government promotes a healthy diet and then every commercial promotes potatoes, breads, pizza, pastas, highly processed meats making people think it’s good nutrition when it isn’t.
Both my ex husband and my youngest daughter are type 1 INSULIN dependent diabetics for 45years and 10years respectively. Neither are overweight and never have been, and nor am I. I have read lots of literature about carbohydrates and insulin resistance. I go to aquacise 3 times a week and walk 8000+ steps every single day. This shop is not typical as mentioned and highlighted in the vlog. Its a snapshot of ingredients needed to supplement all the vegetables that I prepped and stored from the Christmas 8p bonanza! My evening meal consists of half my plate being vegetables and completely balanced. I adopt the 80/20 rule so my life is worth living! Thank you for your comment
I'm hearing her voiceover talk about fats and emulsifiers etc and eating healthy and yet there's a lot of sweet treats and biscuits in her shopping. That money could have been put to more and healthy food. I fear any unnecessary purchases such as these will be out of my budget when I come to pension age.
@ never suggested you were overweight, I just stated a scientific fact..carbs turn to sugar as it is digested and unlike sugar is stored in fat cells, unless it is consumed just prior or post high energy workout. Google it..

I use nappy bags from Tesco Essentials as dog poo bags, they are cheaper. 95p for three hundred.
That's what I use as well .
Are they biodegradable
I use nappy sacks in my little bathroom bin, they smell nice
What a brilliant idea
Always use nappy bags, they smell nice and are cheaper
Great video Tanya! Camp fire stew sounds interesting! Please could you share a video of this when you make it? That would be fabulous if you could xx❤
Yes I will, as its on that you throw everything into a pot and let it do its own thing. x

Canadian viewer here and yes, dog owners are required to pick up their dog’s waste. It is mostly successful with the odd one who doesn’t comply.
