Living on a restricted income. Budgeting, buying wisely, meal prep, lifestyle videos.
Another great video thank you
To ripen tomatoes at the end of the growing season I put then in my tea towel draw, in between the towels. I don’t know why this helps them to ripen my gran always did this and it does work. They take a couple of weeks sometimes so be patient.
I have turkey mince in my freezer so I will be trying this recipe on this week’s meal plan it looks yummy.
Another great video, loving your content, you sound like a lady of my own heart. I am happy to live frugally to allow me to splurge on things that are important to me. I too made myself live on what I knew would be my pension income for a year before I retired to prove to myself I could afford to live without having to dip into my savings unless it was for a major purchase I couldn’t live without.
Looks good
Using the leftovers to make a good soup is the frugal way to go 😊 Looked delicious ✔️ Good video 👍🇦🇺
Another great video, down to earth advice.
Smashing recipe ,thank you . Will definitely try the Jalapenos , they look yum x
I would not like to rely on any govt for our pensions. your govt is struggling more than we are at moment. Big fear is they will cut our pensions if they have to with so many millions out of work to pay into the fund. Remember the 1970's?
Just a suggestion, I hope you don’t mind….if you could put your camera on a tripod to film your grocery haul. It’s very hard to focus with the camera moving so much.
New subscriber ❤
I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on and look forward to seeing your bungalow x
Totally understand where you are coming from. I appreciate your videos x
Hi Tanya, would you be able to do a vlog how you keep paperwork? At the moment i got a big filing cabinet! Im sure i dont need all the paperwork in it. I also use a app for my budget but i want to simplify things and go back to pen and paper. Thanks Suz
Your channel came across my feed, subscribed. I am in a similiar position. I'd already planned to save my Social Security(guessing its similar to an old age pension in the UK) for the next year as I am still working part time until June. Last school year...yay. My savings is going towards my long anticipated Ireland and Scotland trip. As I'm used to traveling on a extreme low budget I am sure I can still save around $10,000 between now and June and spend a fraction of that. I really like your practicality!
I’m looking forward to follow your money saving journey
So glad I found your Chanel really enjoyed your videos. I’m in a similar situation. Looking forward to your journey.
Glad to have found your channel, someone shared you on the budgeting community on instagram. Single adult household here and hoping to retire by 60 😵💫 although that seems impossible sometimes on a mediocre income
A wonderful video! I am a new subscriber and will be following your journey. I am 64 years old and have been budgeting since I was 20 and newly married. I f you need a couple of resources that I find works (very frugal living but not depriving), there are 2 frugal vloggers that I watch. One is Under The Median (a USA couple, vegan, who raised 4 boys on a low income) and Frugal Queen of France ( an expat from Britain). I have gleaned ideas even after my 40 plus years. LOL! Will be watching you on your journey and appreciate your candid insights.
Thanks for the (surprising) shoutout Tania! Keep up the good work (you're preaching to the choir here). Being frugal isn't about missing out on life is it, it's about spending on what brings you pleasure and letting the rest go!
I’ve just found you on RUclips. I used to read your blog and missed you when you stopped so this was a nice surprise and I look forward to following what you do and picking up some tips.
Another wonderful video ❤🎉 Lovely to hear the background/ process you’ve been through. Reminds me of something papa would always say: We can only ever take one step at a time - and we all walk at a different pace.
Hello looking forward to follow your journey 🥰
Good lessons you are teaching from experience!
I have had microbore heating for years. I calculated everything myself, and bought the proper low water content boiler. Most plumbers, even now, do not bother to correctly calculate the size of pipes or radiators, taking into account levels of insulation etc. 99.9% of plumbers look at a room, say it requires a radiator size x and that is all they do.
Love yr videos lm a viewing from Ireland 🇮🇪
Great video Tania, I will be looking forward t your future videos. I love your content you sound like a women who thinks about finance in the same way as me.
❤
It is not true that dietary fat is bad for humans or animal so you could save money by buying your dog fatty mince or cuts of meat and fat is good for you. The problem in sugar or other carbs cut them out of the meal and the fat is good

Hi Tania, I’ve recently come across your page and just watched all your videos. I love them!! Thank you for sharing and am looking forward to watching your journey 💜💜
Thanks so much for you comment. X
Do you watch “Ali lives well on less”? She’s retired early and is living on a teacher’s pension which is actually less than the State Pension, so you and she might have a lot in common. Merely as a suggestion, maybe you and she could do some sort of collaboration with other frugal You Tubers, I understand that can drive vlog engagement and increase subscriber numbers?
I've really been enjoying watching Ali Lives Well On Less 🎉
I follow Ali & Luna 🐾
Hi Tania I’ve watched all your vlogs over the last 24 hours. It’s been very interesting. I can fully empathise with you in terms of money just running away when it comes to getting stuff done to your home. My savings have all but disappeared and I have just started on a journey like yours, trying to save each month to build them up again. I was wondering how you managed being frugal when living with a spouse/partner? Were they fully on board? I can see myself doing a lot of the same things as you but I think there are some that my partner would resist 😂. I used to read your blog but never commented, I’m so glad you are now all settled in your bungalow. Good luck with your plan for 2025.
When I was Frugal in Essex it was 10 years ago I was with my husband. I took the bull by the horns and said this is what our budget is to run this household and this is how we are going to achieve it. I also mentioned the savings this would bring and what may result from that. For example my husband went down to a 4 day week, then to a 2 day week. It maybe just the carrot needed to get someone on board. As I've said maybe suggest some small changes first. Good luck. X
@LivingonaUKStatePensionthanks Tania. We’re already pretty frugal, cook from scratch, batch cooking etc but could do better in some areas. I look forward to your next video.
Love your channel , Carol x
Thank you so much!
Good morning Tania, I was living on the old state pension which is less than the new rate state pension. I have got Pension Credit, it is wonderful, and so needed. For the first time in years i am putting on my gas fire. I don't have a car, too expensive for me, i can drive as i still have a licence, i keep that as ID. I live in North Wales Britain. And am 73, i live alone with my little dog. Worked hard full time all my life from 15years to 63 . I have a 2 bed bungalow, i own. I have had to be frugal all my life, low wages etc. But because of my frugal ways I managed to buy a very small terrace house to do up, i did that over years, then long story short bought my Bungalow. And i love it. I cut my own hair, and trim my poodle, i learnt hairdressing as a young girl. I have 6 water butt's, and use them for my ; window wash, toilet (number 1only) water plants , i have water meter. I cook from scratch, and taken on board so of your cooking videos, i like them. I've wallpapered, painted, etc, built garden walls alsorts, i can't do as much now . Arthritis etc, i have never smoked or drank. Glad now i didn't go down that route. So well, that's me in a nutcase. Hope you will carry on with your channel and i look forward to hearing more videos. Ps. I have a very small greenhouse, i grow tomatoes, i have raspberry bushes, rhubarb gooseberries, and i grow French runner beans. In the greenhouse at the moment I have Broad Beans plants growing, just in a cold greenhouse. . All helps with the budget 😊
I have a small plastic greenhouse. I grow very similar produce to you. I laid all my sleepers for the raised beds. I've laid slabs near the shed and lots more around the garden and garage. Well done you. I think the longer you do stuff for yourself not only is it saving you money, it's keeping you fit and active. X
Hi Tania. I am new to your channel. Had to take early retirement at 63 due to ill health so living on a very small LG pension and some benefits. Would you please explain in more detail working out your monthly bills and paying four weekly so you are able to save one month’s pension. Thank you for all your help. Elizabeth x
Of course. I'll do another vlog. Or email me ozziebird1@gmail.com and I'll go through it with youx
I appreciate your honesty Tania. You havent frittered your money away buying meaningless items, but it's useful hearing what you are doing to replenish your savings. I'm glad you've pretty much got your bungalow the way you want it and the nitty gritty boring stuff like heating pipes sorted too. Very important when living alone. I'm definitely learning a lot from you. I agree, its lovely to have a community of like minded people engaging with you and each other on your channel. Also it's great that you and your ex-husband are still friends. Good on you both. Sorry for the essay 🤦
Not an essay just lovely words, thank you. Being amongst like minded people is so refreshing. X
@LivingonaUKStatePension🫶
So interesting.xx🐝🐝
The show Vera and midsumer Murders are my favorite, no cable TV but we do have streaming services, ( we share with my daughter who lives in the bottom apt of our duplex, ) We bought the duplex when we retired and downsized, moved to a cheaper town so we could get more for our money. We win because our daughter helps out and she wins as we only charge her for the utilities.
Before I retired I had credit card/consumer debt and had to work out a budget to clear it and be able to retire. I need to update my old air conditioner (it's hot in Perth, Western Australia}. I have saved for the last year and it will take another year to have enough. But that's okay because I will not go into debt. We all have to figure out what works for ourselves. I appreciate your frankness Tania, there are lessons for us all in what you share. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Well done on tackling your debt. Once you've recognised the problem and taken those first steps to deal with it, you are on the road to success. As you say we all have to work out the best way ourselves. Thanks for commenting. X
Lovely video showing how easy it is to cook at home one day and eat for several days, batch cooking has saved me thousands over the years as we always have some food in the fridge and freezer on the days I don't feel like cooking, we can get some really bad weather days here which means I don't leave the house but I have enough food in the house for a month. It can cut down on impulse buying if you don't shop every day, who hasn't come home with things you never knew you wanted until you saw them ! I read somewhere that most people throw away 30% of the food they bought intending to eat.
You are so right , we are all learning from each other
We all have different frugal outlooks on life. And speaking amongst our little community is wonderful. We can learn from each other, definitely. Thanks fir commenting. X
I am glad you are in a position to increase your savings for a year and, honestly, congratulations for not letting it get so out of hand that you couldn’t save yourself!
I think that is the key, recognise the problem and deal with it. Thanks gor commenting. X
I have been spending time trying to reduce my fixed expenses. I reduced a monthly storage unit fee from $103 to $50 by asking for a discount after seeing a web special price and calling management, they agreed to the discount.
Always good to challenge these companies. Loyalty doesn't seem to pay these days. Well done on getting the reduction. X
My husband died nearly two years ago and I have downsized to a dormer bungalow six months ago. Like you I have spent money getting it how I like. I’m not able to do much myself. My son is a great help but lives 300 miles away.
It all takes time and money to sort out property. I'm sorry to hear you lost your husband. X
Just found your channel. I am also living alone. I down sized to a smaller property which needed fully renovated. I have done the majority of things but still have some tasks that need doing. I have always tried to live frugally but at the moment I am trying to build up the funds for my next bit of renovation which I am planning to do over the summer. I was doing well financially but with the cost of living increases has slowed down my savings. I will be watching you other videos and following you with interest.
Thanks for watching. When you own your own house you still have the huge responsibility of maintaining it. Building materials have gone up considerably as well as everything else. Thanks for watching and commenting.x
I was talking to friends last week about how we started out in life compared to todays generation, we rented a 1 bedroom apt, second hand furniture, no car, no mobile phone, nothing that was on credit ( buy now pay later ) no manicures, botox, hair extensions etc. I walked or took the bus with 2 children to the store there and back, no fancy holidays ( my parents paid for me to visit England to see their grankids ) we went to the local parks, had picnics, never ate out at a fast food place, never bought coffee or pizza, never had a Ford 150 truck and a SUV to drive around. The kids had a birthday at home with a smarties cake I made, they still talk about the parties we had in the garden. Halloween costumes were homemade, no gender reveal parties !!! no massive balloon arches for a 1 year old ! Anyway now we own 3 houses all paid for, no debt and still don't have a car lol but all because we lived within our means and didn't need to show off how much money we didn't have. I still buy all my clothes at the thrift store. most with the tags still on them, I bake everyday, make every meal from scratch and but food on sale and stock pile under my bed. ps: that colour top looks good on you.
Like you I've always lived within my means. I've always renovated properties and have made good money out of it. I've drawn a line under my spending now. Onwards and upwards £££. Thanks for commenting.x
Retirement and life changes takes some planning and adjustment 😊 I quit working 10 years ago and understood that being careful with money 💴 was something that was part of my childhood. Good on you for recognising your challenging issues 🎉 Good video 👍🇦🇺
Thank you. X
You are fortunate to be in a position to have a civil service pension. Lots of people only have a state pension as their income.
thats me State pension very minimum £75 ❤toped up with full pension credit ❤ i do not own my place its rented from Housing Association thank God rent ect is covered because pen Credit ❤ i am happy ❤with what i have i am a widow ❤no children or Grand children😂 oh i miss my darling Husband ❤my Friend ❤7 years ❤ i was living on much less as i was on ESA of only £89 a week
I saw the magician Paul Daniels being interviewed quite a few years ago. He talked about people who say to him ‘you’re lucky…’ what he said was that people only ever see you as you are today, they know nothing of the journey people have taken to have the life they live today. I’ve never forgotten that.
It wasn’t meant as a negative comment or a judgment in any way. I am well aware that many people including myself have had to deal with hardships and personal traumas in life. I was just saying some people only have their state pension as income and really do struggle
I don’t think it’s about being fortunate - it’s about the choices you make when younger coming home to roost when you get older. Anyone can pay more into a pension fund if they choose to do so. This lady, for instance, will have been paying two lots of pension contributions for a number of years, both State and civil service, and I’m sure there would have been many times in that period when she could have used that money, and would have wished she didn’t have to do so. We all would far rather hang onto the money we earn and think about pensions only when we’re old enough to need them. But we all also know in advance how much we’re going to get from the State - you do have to claim your pension, after all, it’s not automatic - and if that’s the only income you’re going to have then you have no option but to cut your coat according to your cloth. That doesn’t mean those who made other choices are fortunate, just that they are better prepared than some chose to be.
Yes, we've all been encouraged for the last 35-40 plus years to get personal and/or work pensions set up. I'm mid-50s and realized 6 years ago that the first of my Local Authority pensions (paid to me at the age of 60) won't be enough to live on monthly (it'll be around £250 pcm) so I set up a stocks & shares ISA with Vanguard and am paying a sizeable chunk onto that with a view to that being part of retirement income if I want to retire at 60 (my state retirement age is 67).
Thank you it all looks very nice x
