    OLD starts off simple enough with married couple Guy and Prisca taking their two kids Trent and Maddox on a family vacation before they get divorced. It turns out that Prisca discovered she had a tumor and she cheated on Guy. Though he never told her he knew this the pair have decided to separate but they want to give the children some happy memories before things go south. Guy is someone who always looks to the future and Prisca always looks to the past and their inability to live in the moment is what drives a wedge between them. Come the end of the film the pair realise that they had one another and should've focused on that rather than external things and it's quite a touching character arc.
    Now at the resort, Trent befriends a young boy named Idlib and he worries that Trent is going to be taken away so he writes him a coded message.
    At the resort they're told by a hotel manager named Nils that there's a secret beach area and this is where the majority of the movie takes place. Escorted there by an unnamed character played by M. Night they're geriat-tricked into taking part in the experiment of a lifetime that takes from the few in order to give to the many.
    After meeting several people at the location we see the phrase lifes a beach and then you die come into full effect as everyone starts aging at a rapid pace and this constant ticking clock in the background adds to the desperation they face whilst trying to escape.
    We discover that the beach has a specific mineral in the rocks that surround that causes the cells in someones body to drastically alter.
    Because someones hair and nails are technically dead cells they do not change, however the rest of the body does along with the mind.
    This naturally occuring anomaly is somewhat of a pressurised location and because the minerals cause ones cells to change at a rapid pace it's almost impossible to leave without blacking out.
    Now amongst the group is a rapper named Mid-Size Sedan who an issue with his blood clotting, a family made up of a surgeon called Charles who suffers from...

    The dialogue was so strange. It was Oblivion NPC level dialogue, and most of the action happened off screen. If they were aging rapidly, why couldn’t we have seen it happen in real time? They showed the blood poisoning, so why not show literally everything else instead of panning away and then back? I wanted the premise to pay off since it’s a really cool one, but oh well…

Not that he’s stealing or anything, not at all, it’s inspiration and this happens all the time. I think it’s hard for him to really encapsulate someone else’s vision and he can miscast or not direct his actors well enough to give the performances a movie like this needs.

I too also thought Charles had onset early Alzheimer's but it was revealed that he was Schizophrenic. It had great potential to be up there with midsommar and hereditary but I feel like it was a rushed production and also cut a lot of death scenes to keep it's 14A rating. I do hope that eventually there is a directors cut that gives extra scenes from what they panned away from. Will watch again when it comes to on demand.

    I’m so confused by the rules they set up in the movie but then also immediately break like one second they’re like “why aren’t our nails and hair growing as fast as we are?” “It must be because they are dead cells and the beach only affects living cells” but like.. that corpse made up of dead cells just decomposed completely within a couple hours. Also mid size sedan and that woman had been there since before sunrise so she may have been dead for 10+ years in magic beach time before the others even find her looking like a pretty fresh corpse, and then suddenly she decomposes… huh?

    Theory: what if Madrid (the young blonde woman who carried the drinks to the guests after they got off the van at the resort, played by Francesca Eastwood), was the one survivor that Shymalan claimed had drowned after swimming through the coral? It doesn't really make sense how someone would drown after already making it all the way out of the coral & out of the time altering beach.
    Plus he was waiting to see if Trent & Maddox would surface in the safe water, probably so that he could stop them from reaching the resort. But because they took so long, he assumed they died & the man over the walkie talkie said they can't afford to have another issue. My guess if that he may have captured Madrid after she swam to shore, & they could be drugging & manipulating her. She did seem a little off from the beginning, especially after Trent & Maddox arrive to knock the drinks out of her hands at the end of the film. She had a bizarre look on her face, like realization.

    • @jeffreyboucher344
      @jeffreyboucher344 2 года назад +19

      Wow that's a really good theory. I just watched the movie, and after reading your comment I was able to think back on that specific scene....It does look like she has a look of "realization" OR it could be a look of "holy shit what have I done?" Like a sense of extreme guilt...BUT the big giveaway, was like you already mentioned, was when the radio operator said "I don't want another incident"...Even during the movie,. I immediately had thoughts of a previous group of test subjects that possibly made it out.
      I guess the only way to find out is to read the comics because apparently the film was based on a serious of books, as shown in the video. Let me know if you find out!

And the graphic novels ending is left with no answers and go reasons given for what happens. And it works so much better. The movie just needed to stay that way. If I were to add my two cents on the idea of the ends justifying the means, that view is dangerous without boundaries and proper context.
    What was done in the film was monstrous. The lives of people were stolen without their consent, and the objective of the study does nothing but spread the guilt to everyone involved. Anther term for this in another context is “blood money”. Wealth acquired through wrongful murder is assumed to be cursed or at least shameful to have. That is what the results of the experiments basically yield. “Blood Cures”.
    It’s completely different when people willingly sacrifice themselves for the greater good of another as that is love. But to rob someone of that choice is actually theft and murder. No matter what it yields, it was siphoned from the abuse of another.
    Another factor to consider is that this is based in the fear of death. People are not prepared to die and that fuels the premise of the story. We have a culture of people insecure of their death, and the concepts concerning how far can we go to extend our lives to keep living continue to grow. The issue though is that people lose the insight of the value of life, and in losing that understanding, more depraved ideas are becoming entertained as methods of extending what life we have which inevitably devalues life. People for example start looking like objects of opportunities to extend your own life or increase it entertainment and the value of people intrinsically becomes lost.
    This is definitely a dark film. Lol

But instead they tried to go the more "noble medical research" path. I know that was supposed to be the twist, but at that point it didn't make much impact.

    At the end when they mentioned an undecoded message, it was obvious that would be the key to get off, but the result was not very satisfying. I was hoping the solution would be more interesting than swimming through some freaky coral which somehow shielded the effects.

    I haven’t seen the movie but couldn’t the researchers find people who were at the “end of their rope” or in huge debt and have the individual sign a contract to be on the beach but their family/spouse would be taken care of? I feel like they could easily run this beach operation with willing enough people and thus humanity would benefit with the permission of the people doomed on the beach. Win win.

    Spoilers: This movie left me with so many questions. Primarily the medical/scientific accuracy of this concept... Now, I know this was metaphorical and meant to make people think about enjoying the moment and blah blah blah... But if 1 minute was essentially a day of your life... or more... wouldn't these people be starving?? Like wouldn't they constantly need to be eating in order to sustain themselves? And shitting themselves? Just a thought... I saw another comment too about the kids teeth... Their teeth would have fallen out as they aged, but they didn't show that part...

    • @michellewidjaja4779
      @michellewidjaja4779 2 года назад +1

      well he did mention in what i can describe as a lazy cop-out to cover the core plothole in the story by saying that hair and nails do not grow as fast so i guess teeth don't either but that would mean that the teenagers and young adults have children teeth. SO STUPID. and what about circadian rhythm? they'd be sleeping and waking within seconds if 30 minutes is the same as 1 year for the body. and if it doesn't effect that part then how accurate can be the medical experiment? so stupid. and the audacity to touch subjects about children dealing with rapid puberty, then pregnancy... i'm not gonna even talk about how irrelevant is that part to the plot other than a preachy segment about "don't waste your time kids" and i'm not even gonna talk about how it would be impossible to get pregnant if your body is doing a one year cycle in 30 minutes... this POS is either too clueless or too arrogant to realize that it is cringy and borderlining pedo and not "edgy" to involve children in sexual activities in your story even if your children characters age a year in 30 minutes because that do not magically make them adults in a few hours, they're still children as far as the audience is concerned, as far as decency and common sense would concern. I don't care what enlightening message you think you're delivering, you're being indecent and ignorant.

    I think that this story had a lot of potential. However, there were so many underdeveloped elements within that it was hard to form any emotional connections with the characters, their stories, or their deaths. The trailer was very enticing, but upon viewing the film I was left with a sense of disappointment due to the film's predictability and mediocre delivery.

    What I liked about the film is how unique it was, as seeing a bunch of people all aging quickly is something I don't believe we've ever seen before and M. Night is sure to include a good sampling, including the birth. You gotta give M. Night kudos for originality here. Also, the more you watch, especially the 2nd watch, you'll catch things you didn't the first time, and I love that kind of writing. However, as with most more recent M. Night films, he set the bar super high, so I think we all look at his films through this particular lens, and that makes it rough on him. If someone else had come out with this idea, I think the overall reviews would perhaps be higher. It's certainly not a great film, but any film that makes you think as much as this one does, certainly carries a lot more merit than most of the schlock coming out of Hollywood these days, or any days. Not a great ending, but the ending did make sense, and you have to love the little kid giving his friend the key to escape. The entire puzzle is something to applaud. Overall, a fun, strange, mysterious film.

      Far from being ‘dead’, a rotting corpse is teeming with life. A growing number of scientists view a rotting corpse as the cornerstone of a vast and complex ecosystem, which emerges soon after death and flourishes and evolves as decomposition proceeds.
      Decomposition begins several minutes after death with a process called autolysis, or self-digestion. Soon after the heart stops beating, cells become deprived of oxygen, and their acidity increases as the toxic by-products of chemical reactions begin to accumulate inside them.
