Great review. Looking forward to seeing the long term review of the scout, the pictures showed a 2017 however all the video appeared it was on the 2018 scout. Fingers crossed for a long term review on the 2018 scout!
Just upgraded my 2015 160mm pike with the debonair air spring and the new rct3 charger2 damper. Feels like butter city. Very chuffed with it. Cheaper than buying a new boost fork and having to mess with spacers or a new 110mm front hub that would cost heaps.
I like the boost only option. If u google images "bent wheel" you'll see 75-80% are front wheels. Boost is more necessary on the front than rear. Also, rather than manufacturing 2 sizes which wud cost more they're keeping those costs down. And really how often do ppl just buy a fork. Most consumers buy a bike.
The Pike has always been better than the 34, the choice between the two comes down to grams or chunder performance. I want to know how close its gotten to performing as well as a 36.
Rockshox's product line has always been very cramped, so introducing some bigger differences between their forks is a good thing. They have 6 models of fork, all with small variations of the Motion Control damper, all with 32mm stanchions, 4 of which all sit in the same 130-150mm travel range. Then there are usually Charger, or TurnKey, damper versions of those too. Too much overlap.
how did it balance with the coil in the rear. the previous generation pike was very unbalanced when I swapped to a BD coil IL on my suppressor. Changed to a luftkappe made a difference but the damping, particularly HSC, was overly strong.
The bike I'm thinking of getting (Bird Aeris 120), has the choice of 2017 RCT3 or 2018 RC for about the same money, what would be your choice for normal trail / XC type of riding?
Can i fit both the MRP ramp and the Vorsprung luftkappe in this fork? The previous model of Pike need to adjust to 140mm, which is the minimum travel of it. But now this new Pike have the minimum travel of 120mm. So on the new fork, do you have to adjust to 120mm or can you just use 140mm like the old one ?
Why would he shut up? They never said it saved them these grams in comparison to the predecessor. Maybe it's lighter than another prototype of theirs. Don't be rude.
Bottoming out is not bad. In motorcross they say "If you bottom out twice a lap, you're tuned"
I'll stick with my Yari and put the $ saved towards other components..... Good thorough video though!
What should I buy?? Yari or Pike RCT3???
Whats the difference ??

I got the 2018 27.5 model, running 3" without any problem at all, plenty of room

arguably the Lyrik is a more comparable fork to the 36 though - the 36 is very much an enduro fork, whereas the Pike is more trail.
thats debatable

Thanks Excellent Review . Buying A 150 RC For My Rocky Tomorrow 😎 PU After Work

not sure, i'd take the rct3
It’s up to you
I like the cassettes tool idea! Hopefully they made switching out air springs easier. The previous way is a huge hassle i thought
I'm like between 2019 rct3 pike and 2020 select and I'm not sure what to pick.

The new fork looks good
Rockshox pike beats anything
that's debatable
Rockshox makes the best forks and shocks in the world
isn't a 'trail fork' by definition a do it all fork?
Are you going to / will you do a review on your Cane Creek DB IL?
Yep, I will do at some point soon-ish!
'traditionally people have used 29er fork to fit 2.8'' or 3'' tires'
word tradition has just lost its meaning...
every wheelsize?? what about 26
#26aintdead
Brian Richards 26 is dead.
You can just put a 26 in a bigger chasis. Might look weird, but who cares.
I hav a friend with an enduro 26er #26aintdead
Wuts that?
940 pounds!? Holy crap!!
King Rat at least it should be stiff for that weight
Will you test the Mattoc Pro?
By "floor", do you actually mean "ground"!?
Personally, I don't really see this as an indoor-specific fork.
Ground! Not Floor. *Face Palm*
Yes way!
250g weight savings? Pfff.... SRAM website lists it at 1841g. Previous model, 1861g.
On the lower legs, not the whole fork!
Theodor Hybsky Shut up
Why would he shut up? They never said it saved them these grams in comparison to the predecessor. Maybe it's lighter than another prototype of theirs. Don't be rude.
Theodore was paying attention. And it's also stiffer and lighter at the same time.
If its only 20 gramms overall. The 250g in the lowers dont matter, or do you ride around with just the lower legs of your fork?
Please review the specialized allez sprint, it has a very interesting frame.
Nice
Can I have one from you?
Valdemar Johansen you can have this......
👌
No need to upgrade my 16
lyrik>pike
debatable
Different tools for different jobs.
well it literally has more travel so hes not wrong
totally agree boost only is bull shit
Fox 36!
