You’re an angel. Thank you. I’ve literally never worked in vector and was about to start scrubbing through some guy’s 3 hour long Ai tutorial just to get a short and convoluted description of how to use the pen tool. This video covered it perfectly.
This is awesoooooommmmeeeee!!! I spent (literally) the last 24 hours trying to learn the pen tool on desktop because I needed to recreate a design I did in Cricut Design Space. I got it done….. but this would have been so much more easy! Thank you so much 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💜💜💜
Great tutorial. I have been looking for a good explination of the pen tool for a while. I use photoshop on desktop and ipad so I get Ai ipad for free and it was a needed getting started type video. Great work keep it coming
Wow. Great video!!! Very clear and easy to follow. FYI I know NOTHING about Illustrator. But I have a circuit and do embroidery so vector files are important.
great question Robin! it doesn't necessarily have to be 0 degrees. As long as your using the same degrees for each side of the shape if that makes sense? So if you have a point at the top and one at the bottom they both should have the same degrees if they line up vertically.
This was super helpful I really struggled with it on pc now I can do it on iPad . Would you ever do a tutorial on how to get a file ready to print with foil ?
@@evrydywrkr4038 oh that’s an entirely different app I’m using Adobe illustrator here. But I also have vectornator. Let me see if they have that capability
I feel so so dumb, but ive never used illustrator before let alone on the iPad. When I want to continue with my next shape the pen tool will connect a line from my previous shape to the new one. I don’t know how to turn this feature off besides clicking select at the top. How can I complete a shape seamlessly with the pen tool and move on to the next one without having to click select at the top? Your help would be so so appreciated. Thank you
Hi Haley! Unfortunately, that's the feature that comes with Illustrator on the iPad. Right now Illustrator on the iPad doesn't really allow you to make that many changes with the settings. I'm hoping they find a better way to allow us to move onto the next shape much more seamlessly. Let's cross our fingers they update that! Because it really is unintuitive.
@@Threeologie thank you so much for your reply! Wow, yes, I hope the app improves. I want to get better at digital illustration but I only have an iPad 🙈 no laptop
do you have the ability to set the trace layer to keyline mode in Illustrator for iPad? The desktop version has this (each layer you make/use can be set to keyline or preview independently) and this obviates the problem of trace line (with stroke) getting thicker when zooming in whilst tracing. little tip - instead of reducing the opacity of your image...use a grayscale/greyscale version of your image and then colourize it by selecting it and giving it a fill colour of your choice...works great on the desktop.
I cannot for the life of me manage to continue a path after selecting off from it with the pen tool. I want to create a straight line off from the last existing point. I use the direct select tool to begin from it but it does nothing. I use the pen tool and select from the last point and it does nothing. I use the pen tool off to the side on the canvas to plot a straight line, using both ‘shift’ on my iPad keyboard and also using the circle whatever-it’s-called-shifty-tool and it just disengages as if I deselected something. The pencil tool is no problem for continuing a path but, this just about has me pulling my hair out on the pen tool for continuing a path. Any advice? Anyone?
Is pen tool on Photoshop for iPad or just Illustrator on iPad ?If iris in PS, is it possible to save multiple pen selections, even overlapping ones, as paths to use later? As in, let's say you'd two letters, draw around the letters but instead of it being a stroke/ fill, it's a path with 0 thickness (only visible as marching ants once selected) that you can save to a paths folder? Then you can choose certain paths from either or both shapes, add or subtract bits of them as a selection, so that you can paint in certain/ specific areas, kind of like using the selections as masks? How that's clear 😬
Hi John! of course! so I am merely clicking on the selection tool (top left corner arrow button) and then I select my letter R. A menu pops up below it and I can tap on the icon with 3 lines (second one from the left) to adjust the thickness of the stroke :)

This is exactly what I’m looking for. A polygon lasso tool which could be mimicked using the pen tool.

Thank you so much! This is the most helpful video I have seen. One question. Why the 0 Degrees on the nodes?
great question Robin! it doesn't necessarily have to be 0 degrees. As long as your using the same degrees for each side of the shape if that makes sense? So if you have a point at the top and one at the bottom they both should have the same degrees if they line up vertically.
My professor in school prefers horizontal and vertical lines, thus the 0 degrees is necessary
I found this really helpful, thank you
thanks so much !:)
Terrific tutorial! Thanks for sharing
no problem:)
Thank You!! What does creating a new layer do?
This is exactly the video I’ve been looking for…thank you!!!

Does the Ipad have a uniform line like in Desktop?

why is my apple pencil not working in illustrator?? I can use it in other apps but it only works using finger in illustrator?
Oh so strange! Sometimes the app bugs out. Have you tried restarting it?
Maybe you've done it by now but you should turn on palm rejection so you don't get accidental points.
thank you! :)
Great tutorial just has to be a less time consuming way
App name ?
adobe illustrator on the ipad
At 1minute and 16 seconds there is a blip in video regarding stroke, can you explain, thank you.
