This was a wonderful video!!!! Superstar Saga is also a game that really impacted me, it's just so full of charm it's an endearing adventure to experience, thank you for covering it in such a lovely way!
I think you pretty much nailed exactly why I loved this game Especially on how it handles the story, it feels like playing through a cartoon episode and might I just say how much I love the fact that it's a game on the Mario BROS rather than just MARIO Also, how the hell does this video not have 1000 more views
Well done with the analysis! This game is one of my favorites, playing through the adventure and imagining what crazy scenario Mario and Luigi (and I) would have to go through next. Though simple, the game was made with passion, and I agree that it has a charm that none of the other M&L games have. Also, special mention to the music, still got a few themes stuck in my head from that first playthrough long ago. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on such a wonderful game!
Man, I remember watching this game as a child because a RUclipsr was replaying it and absolutely falling in love with it, it was so good! I think I played it once on one of those bootleg portable consoles, I honestly forgot, but man the impression it left with me has never left me, its just such a good RPG with so much funny and hilarious moments. I really wish I can play it (almost from scratch) soon because I really love everything about it (If possible, I'd like to play it alongside the Remake of Super Mario RPG but yk)
I feel so attacked by the lolzrandum green sidekick comparison, how dare you This retrospective is lovely, regardless of my middle school sense of humor coming back to haunt me. You're clearly putting so much affection and love into your videos!
I really dig how eventful this game's story is, they really could've just padded out the first half of the game's story (like a good chunk of rpgs do) and called it a day but nah. Ironically I'd argue it has the most story out of any of the ML games despite being the shortest and goofiest. Also really dig the hand powers along with the upgrading of hammers; I get some people find them to not be super important but I think it really adds to the satisfying feeling of progression SS has. Sad they never came back, tho I get that it probably would've felt redundant and overwhelming next to each game's gimmicks. Would've been cool if in every game after SS, the Bros. had gold hammers by default or something though.
For me, what kept me coming back to this title was the gameplay. For me, the typical RPG gameplay is boring. Take Pokémon for example, you just choose a move, and wait. Another element was luck, which I really didn’t like. It was out of my control and it makes the game even more unenjoyable. The Mario & Luigi series however, gives me the chance to not only pick and choose which stats I can increase, it also gives me the chance to fight back and luck is dependent on my skill of pressing buttons at the right time. And it gives me the opportunity of dodging the enemy’s attacks, and it’s not being a matter of luck. So the failure feels like my fault instead of the game bending me over and fucking me hard. This game entry turned the elements of disconnected gameplay and luck to engaging, skill based game.
Probably the best gameplay of any RPG ever. And also one of the funniest games ever.
