same here, and I don't think it's merely by chance. Their [death metal in general, compared to the style of Aoba] themes are symbolically complementary and therefore symmetrical. I think the two contradistinctive styles have something in common, (I'm generalizing death metal btw, not all DM is dark, some are actually hopeful), the former is dark, the latter is lively, the former usually symbolizes misfortune, tragedy, sadness, or the general suffering of the human condition, or death, while for the latter, the impression I get from Aoba's work is reviving, lifelike, natural, motherly (in a divine way), universal, "beginning", or the general flourishing and development of the human condition. The flowers (in album art, and on her hair/outfits in many live performances, and in the lyrics of some songs), the folk "style", evokes an image of rural/simpler and long-lost times. The reverberated angelic voice, in contrast to the harsh scream vocals in much of death metal. The constant symbolism of naturalistic elements/themes in many of her songs with an uplifting portrayal. (Obv inspiration from Ghibli throughout many of her works) The "death metal" artists I listen to are Ne Obliviscaris, Rivers of Nihil btw, to get an idea of the intuition I'm attempting to convey. I know this is pretentious but it's fun to draw some similarities between the two. I wonder how frequent it is that death metal fans may enjoy this genre/style of music that Aoba conveys. It's a funny and interesting contradiction. Interestingly enough my most consistent favorite artists are Ne Obliviscaris and Ichiko Aoba, in terms of how much personal importance I have for them, since those two have made me felt the strongest and most colorful emotions out of all artists (due to irreplaceably admirable talent) because of the archetypical life&death/yin&yang/"heaven&hell" and fundamental concepts of the human condition they portray, even though their styles are directly opposite to one another. But they're both in the same playing field for that reason.
you're not weird 😭my taste is literally rap to kpop to hiphop to rnb to hindustani classical music (i'm pakistani) to gamelan to ichiko aoba so i literally listen to everything

Ichiko is the most beautiful woman in the world. A gift from the heavens.
Whenever I listen to Ichiko Aoba, it feels like I’m in a whole other world

青葉さんは、本当に人類なのかな?って思うくらい不思議な魅力がある
So....I strictly listen to brutal death metal and Ichiko Aoba. Is that weird? I love her voice.
Don’t worry. Do what you want.
We’re the exact same haha
