The double-layered boards are indeed clever. But especially considering the size. Knowing how they’re produced , the problem that happens with Player boards that are glued together, Is that you have to use layers of cardboard that are thick enough. If the cardboard is too thin, They will warp. Also, if they don’t let the glue dry long enough, you also get boards that warp. the only time where glue is used is when you have elements that are surrounded by a big hole. Like when you make a doughnut. In that case, there’s no other way around it, you do have to use glue.
I played a full 2 player game of it last weekend. It´s a phenomenal. A lot of new and unusual ideas for a Feld game. Production value will be great, too. The storage solution works really well for setup. Can´t wait for the release later this year.
Yeah, I really like the look of those also. It is always nice having little boxes or containers that go out with components in them instead of having to dump baggies and then put things back in baggies(especially small bits).
I love those small cardboard boxes to store cards and player pieces! They are far superior to plastic inserts and an inexpensive addition that most publishers should be able to add to their games.
Hope this is good. Enjoyed Marrakesh. Want to mention I was at 50% off sale at a store. Even last minutes of the sale after 3 days, no one bought Hamburg at 50% off. And there were at least 5 copies sealed. absolutely everything else but the complete junk was sold. I really debated it but even at $50, it still seemed too expensive, especially for all the bad reviews it got for the icon nightmare and lack of text. This must have been Feld/Queen greatest failure in the reprint series. I also got Trajan sealed for $33 cad. Owned it years ago, but wanted to play again.
Thank´s Paul for this unboxing video. I am very impressed with the current quality of the non-final version. As I'm a big Stefan Feld fan, this game would have been a blind buy for me. But now it's a must have. Greetings from Germany😊
Also seen in Boonlake and Maracaibo The Uprising. Pretty sure I have at least another game with DIY dual-layered boards. That’s the only way to go if you want to avoid warping during transport
3 questions. 1). When is Essen? 2). Can you pick me up a copy? 3). When can we expect a Patreon playthrough? I'm intrigued, and want to know everything.
For this one, I think you do. I've just spent the morning building them. You are constantly putting things into the gaps and it would much easier if the boards were stuck together.
I got a chance to try this game at Essen. It was definitely interesting. I'm not sure I like the trademark Feld high levels of randomness in a civ game, but there's a decent amount of mitigation and alternate ways of doing thing. it still may be too much for me, but my tolerance for randomness is unusually low - I still think it's a game with a lot of promise.
This looks very interesting. This may very well be my first Feld game… (And from my shelves I hear some quarrelling Castles of Burgundy: hey! 😠 Merlin: Excuse me sir? 🤨 La Granja: wanna see what the donkeys here have to say about this? 😡😡)
I mean... sure... This video took me time to create. I didn't get paid for it. And all my ad revenue goes to charity. And it is available for you to watch for free. But sure, feel free to critise me if you want to. What isn't important to you might be to others. You are not the only person in the world.
Not quite. There was 3 mins of countdown at the start, so only 5 mins. But in that 5 mins, I talk about the game. You are welcome to skip ahead if you don't want to hear about it, but these live unboxings are done for fun, and for free with all ad revenue going to charity. So I make no money out of doing them :)
A nice minor touch: the punchboards have a corner cut out, making it easier to get them out of the box.
Really like the idea of interior boxes for the player pieces if they are sturdy enough. The box with the cards looked good too.
They've done this before, and it works really well.
Paul I’m 100% with you. I’m 54 as well and have a hard time seeing small icons and small print.
This game looks interesting.
Looks very interesting, and having just watched this means I won't have three months of waiting for more content.
I have every Feld game so far. My favorite game designer. I’m so excited for this one. Thank you for sharing.

I see that sleeved cards wont fit in the box. Please share the feedback to publisher if you can. This should be fixed. All th best. Thanks 😀
This is my highest anticipated Essen release, and Feld game for quite a while
I haven't bought a Feld game in a while (I do own a bunch, some are my favorites), this one has my attention.
It is quite different from his others. Only the dice selection felt like his.
@@GamingRulesVideos That's intriguing, I like that he's trying new things.
Really looking forward to the playthrough.
T-3 days

The white sturdy player boxes look like those used by Capstone games and I really appreciate the ease of packing and set up.

I think i saw this at spiel, looked awesome. High on my list when it gets released

Yeah this whole city collection nonsense is an awful awful idea. Medium production but absolutely awful art and top end pricing…an absolute mess
@@ilqrd.6608 The art got a lot better from the 3rd game onwards. The first two were... well, I didn't like the art in them at all.
I am very much looking forward to the final product! Thanks for the video, Paul!
Really impressed by the components and organization
Well done on resisting opening the box. I would have struggled to be so good.
it was sooooo hard.
I would fly to the UK to play it with you too :)
@@Darkhan9 you would be welcome to :)
Holy smokes am I pumped for this game!
me too. playing it tomorrow night!
Love the cardboard boxes and reducing plastic by having the pieces already in the boxes - hope that's how the retail version will come.
It will, just with artwork on the boxes.
I think the words “Feld” and “Civ” make this an auto buy for me. How exciting!
Looks very good. Was intrigued already, last year.
I played the demo with Shteevie at Essen last year. I am now super jealous and really excited about this game all over again!!
Thank´s Paul for this unboxing video.

As I'm a big Stefan Feld fan, this game would have been a blind buy for me. But now it's a must have.

Oh my goodness this looks cool.
Those player boards look awesome
Nova Aetus Rennaissance had character boards like this, where you punched them out yourself and were 'dual-layer'
Also seen in Boonlake and Maracaibo The Uprising.
Pretty sure I have at least another game with DIY dual-layered boards. That’s the only way to go if you want to avoid warping during transport
@@Feldingor Evenfall has it too.
3 questions.
1). When is Essen?
2). Can you pick me up a copy?
3). When can we expect a Patreon playthrough?
I'm intrigued, and want to know everything.
1. October.
2. Unlikely, I have limited space.
3. As soon as I can to be honest, by my schedule is packed for the next few weeks.
cool
Well, you don't really need to stick the 2-layer player board together do you? Seems like it's fine not stuck?
You don’t ! I’ve seen games like Planta Nubo which included them. But indeed it’s not a must.
For this one, I think you do. I've just spent the morning building them. You are constantly putting things into the gaps and it would much easier if the boards were stuck together.
This is on my nr 1 list to get in Essen too. Will you be there this year Paul?
Check out my last live Q&A for where I will be at Essen this year. At least I think I talked about it then :)
@@GamingRulesVideos Amazing, will try to swing by on Saturday at 15!
Stefan Feld + Civ = me very excited

Automatic purchase. No questions asked no price considered.
Kutná Hora has dual layered boards like these. Very clever.
Evenfall and sky team too
Was done a few years previously. Maracaibo Uprising I think was the first one I saw.
If this will be sold in Essen I will lose my mind
It will be sold in Essen. :)
@@GamingRulesVideos and sold out I bet :) will preorder this one blindfolded
any release date ?
I mentioned this at the start of the video :)
@@GamingRulesVideos i entered it live when unboxing hehehe thata why i asked thanks
@@GamingRulesVideoswell maybe im crazy but you dont mention a release date !!! you just say its a preliminary box ??? l
@@munchinkin Apologies. I thought I said that it was coming out at Essen Spiel 2024
Yay
It actually looks like a civ game. I surprised.
This looks very interesting. This may very well be my first Feld game…

lil comment for the algo :)
the best type of comment.

8.5 minutes in just to OPEN the box in an unboxing video 🤦♂️
