For instance if we played the E on the twelth fret of the low E string its the exact same note as the E on the 7th fret of the A string, and that same E can be found a 3rd time on the the second fret of the D string. So as long as you are playing the right notes it doesn't matter where you play it. It's all about what you personally want to hear and making it your own. The higher string just tends to have more attack cause it's brighter. So it honestly doesn't matter that Tony says he plays it in a different position because the notes are the same regardless.

Yeah but he played half step down which is technically E flat tuning or whole step which is D standard tuning. Unless you tune to one of those you won’t get the authentic sabbath sound.
When it comes to tony iommis tone. He had a dallas rangemaster treble booster directly into a 100w laney supergroup and he played with relatively thin strings i think the highest is a 8
I don't know why, but the SG is one guitar I will always buy the Epiphone version and not even the $1500 or cheaper Gibson one.I had one Epi SG I put the Gibson 490's in it and it was such a great guitar unfortunately I sold it.

I've always liked Epiphone better! They experiment more, push for different looks. Gibson is very conservative. Gibson fans don't like change very much.

It would make sense that a lot of previous civilizations would be lost, given that the sea levels rose 400ft in 13-15,000 years. I can only imagine what has come and gone on earth in regards to civilizations/technology.
I’ve owned both and I can honestly say tone wise the Gibson is fuller and sounds slightly brighter but my epiphone sg special p-90 was amazing and I really feel it was more versatile and I enjoyed playing it more??
theres just something about those p90s in a Sg that are just so fn metal!! which is odd because p90s are not goood for metal in any other circumstance.. i only have humbucker guitars but my next guitar will be a p90 sg 100% i love that sound EDIT: 10 months later ive owned this guitar for about 2 months and i did in fact buy this epi iommi and it is EVERYTHING i thought and way more!!! easily my 2nd favourite guitar only to my mustaine alien tech green kramer which is a metal tank... but the iommi does hendrix blues, cleans, sabbath metallica and more (which is impressive for p90s, epiphone p90s for that matter)

@@madhatter19xx13 I know the notes are the same but my point is the song is heavy, so the heaviest sound you can get is playing power chords on the e and a instead of a and d, I always prefer to play songs the way the actual guitarist plays them, but that’s just my preference.

Epiphone sounds brighter, a touch less low end, and output, but it hardly begins to warrant the price difference. I love the Epiphone SG Special Classic P90. I remember when Gibson made them noticeably lower quality guitars, but now its like they're competing with themselves? Even if the pup 's sound differences bothered you, change them out, add an EQ pedal or a Rat lol, or just turn up the bass on your anp lol! I can honestly say, the only difference you're really paying for is... the name on the headstock.
The sound of gibson are more density in medium and bass but is really little bit. I have the gibson sg 64 tony Iommi with hat plot, border frets in binding and i buy more for the collection than more sound 😅 but she play really good and the epiphone too....
I personally like the Gibson better. It sounds 10-20% heavier to me. But things can be modified, I guess. And I'd wanna hear the Brian Robertson edition before I made any decisions 😅
To all the people saying they like the sound of the Gibson more than the Epiphone: if that’s all you care about, just buy the same pickups that are in the Gibson Tony Iommi SG and put them in the acoustic. Boom. Saved $1000. But I have a feeling that “Gibson” on the headstock matters more to people than they’re letting on.
Take the epiphone and eventually upgrade the pickups to Gibson! I put 57 classics in my sg 400 like 15 years ago and it’s still in great working condition…just save the money and as the years go by you’ll get your money’s worth❤
Epiphone sounds like it has more distinct treble. Gives the illusion that the Gibson is thicker. Nothing that couldn’t be fixed with the adjustment of the bass and mid knobs.
The gibson sounds a bit thicker to me but for 1400 usd less I'd take the epiphone
Anyway, you can change the pickups to full Gibson for a couple hundred pounds!

The Epi sounds a bit thinner than the Gibson. Easily remedied by changing out the pickups. And you’ll still have $1200 in your pocket 😉
