He’s the finest England goalkeeper I’ve ever seen, by some distance. He would make my all time England 11. He is not perfect but he is more than good enough and I feel safe when he up against penalties. He nearly always stops at least 1 of 5. Euro 2021 is remembered for England being so bad at penalties. What goes under the radar is that in a high pressure cooker environment, with the world watching, Pickford saved the first 2 Italian penalties. That’s normally enough to win most shootouts. He’s an incredible keeper. Always over performs when he is needed to. Magnificent. Take Euro 2024. Ok Spain won and any team going thru a tournament from the ‘harder side of the draw’ winning 7 of 7, is worthy champions. Back to England; Harry was shit, Kyle Walker, easily the best RB in the world, was getting tired in the knockouts, Bellingham saving the day but raging at the touchline giving off seriously toxic vibes. Pickford was the one solid constant again. Another shootout save, another shootout win and another final. I’m not surprised he was goalkeeper of the tournament. The one England player the rest of Europe was united in agreement he’s a class act was our goalkeeper. The outfield you can talk about for hours. Pickford is class. I hope he plays until he is 40. I always thought Peter Shilton was overrated and a bit of an FA kiss arse like Lineker. Pickford is the real deal.
imagine being a goalkeeper and not having to do this just because there is a defender in front of you who does it already. That is not a keeper's job, but a defender or captain job, the keeper is already stressed enough and doesn't need things that would keep him out of focus on defending the post.
