I am 27, a single, virgin, never married women and I am about to become a home owner. Accountability and living above reproach (not putting yourself in a position for anyone to say you did anything inappropriate) is the only way. Not being alone even after engagement and have complete buy-in from both people. Will keep you until after the wedding. Speaking from experience, don't give your flesh room, period...I made it to the wedding a Virginia but could've used more accountability!!! FACTS😮

Hey Tim and Team, I’m struggling with overeating and disobedience. The Holy Spirit has been leading me and giving me direction on how to break it but I keep making compromises. It’s been on-going for the last two years. At first I fell really hard into condemnation because I doubted God’s goodness and hand in this situation. You mentioned having “secret corners” and my secret corner is food, it’s really unhealthy. When I’m excited, anxious, afraid, bored, whatever I go to eat as a weapon. And it’s not healthy food. When I was strong in my walk I was very self-disciplined but when I backslid everything went downhill and now I’m trying to build it back up. I’m really concerned about the trajectory of my life because it is a distraction and I know this is holding me back. Crucifying my flesh extremely difficult and the only thing left to do is to do it. And it is hard. Since it’s food I’m making justifications for it. I’m relating this to your conversation about sex and celibacy because it’s laying down weight. And no one around me understands because I’m small, 5’6 132lbs but I know my body and this isn’t good and I have no accountability other than myself and God. Holy Spirit is convicting me and showing me grace but I want to overcome this and defeat this 100% I don’t want to be a slave to my appetite. And it makes me really sad denying myself. I throw temper tantrums and get angry when I try to discipline myself because I don’t feel like I have an outlet. What do I do with these emotions? I’m in therapy, I journal and have slowed down drastically because it seems like I’m going around in the same circle. And I was using church as a crutch and using Jesus glitter not recognizing this major problem in my life. I really need help, and I don’t think anyone understands. I would love to hear a victory story if anyone has had a similar conviction. My family isn’t saved and both sides loves to eat and over indulge I want to break the cycle and this is the hard part because I love food and cooking but it is l my sin because I’ve made it an idol. Even saying this is making me angry. Why is this a problem?
#1 shout out to you for being able to identify what is going on because many people are not even aware of what’s going on inside because they would rather hide from the pain.
#2 you’re doing all the right things - journaling, slowing down, asking for help 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
#3 give yourself grace and compassion ❤️ It’s hard to break habits that are etched in our system due to our environments, etc. Just know that it takes time change a habit.
I would recommend starting with one thing. We try to stop cold turkey with everything which leaves us beating ourselves up when we’re not able to be consistent. Start with one small thing and do that for some time. Then move on to the next. Remember you are moving on your time, not anyone else’s.
Book recommendation: Atomic Habits.
I would suggest searching on YT of people’s stories similar to yours or googling to see what pops up. I just wanted to affirm you and let you know that you’re not alone and you’re taking all the right steps - there’s millions of people going through the same thing. It just may seem like you’re not alone because no one around you is experiencing what you’re experiencing.

As a chef It can be incredibly hard to discipline ourselves not to eat any and everything just because we don’t feel like cooking or because of whatever reason we can come up with. That’s why most chefs are overweight, the management and accountability just isn’t there. You already are aware and that’s the first amazing step. I’m 6’2 195-199 athletic but not “built” I’d honesty say the hardest thing for me would be meal prepping and or making sure I eat with consistent programmed workouts. My advice to you would be to find a nutrition coach and some kind love for cooking that way you’ll be less tempted to eat out when you have better food at home. Also, get RID of all the snacks, sugars, and only keep them to a very minimum like once a week as per your program for example. Overeating can be a problem over time that we don’t see until its too late, so just make sure to surround yourself if active lifestyle people who have the disciplines you want so that they can rub of on you. God is so good that he gave us each other to learn from. You’re not alone in this and if ever you need a boost, remember the promise of good health when it comes to the temptation of overeating. Fight fire with fire. I have to do the same with my own sexual desires, reminding myself that the promise GOD has for me is WAY better than any short-term fulfillment that I’m seeking. Ask God to remind you of the promise of good health in time of temptation.
It may not be much advice, but pray in tongues (in the spirit) every time you fast or choose to eat less or not.
The Bible says that the Spirit intercede on our behalf in Romans 8:26-28 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
'For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.'

As children of God, we are not alone in this. We got both Jesus and the Holy Spirit praying for us and helping.

Amazon sales count but they don't carry the same weight as sales from some other places/sites. Audiobook preorders do not even count toward NYT. I know that's not the main goal but why not get that too while upsetting the world and welcoming people to #TheBasement

Love love love the Basement! I’ve heard the analogy before of having Billy Graham read MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Interesting factoid that MLK actually went off-script with that speech. He was reading the audience and decided to follow his gut to deliver what that audience really needed that day - what we need to hear today and all of the years in between. So, had Billy Graham read what was on that paper, would it have had the same impact that MLK delivering what was in his heart have had on the generations that recite it today? The white male delivering the “script” may have been amazing and life changing. However, I’d hate that we would have missed what was only in Dr. King’s heart and mind because HE delivered the speech. #NerdTalking #LoveTheBasement
