I bought double sided Velcro tape for $4 and stuck a regular garage door opener to the inside of the driver side door pocket. It’s invisible from all angles and I can quickly reach down and click it when approaching home. Easy and cheap.
I bought home link on eBay, it came with the necessary bolt, took bolt to ace hardware and bought same thread count and bolt size except 1/2 inch longer, and a nut to fit the bolt, superglued nut to front (hard to reach) spot set the mount onto bracket and screwed bolt in from front, took less than 10 minutes, hope this helps no need to reach around mount
😂..I put a white styrofoam cup upside down hanging like you did with the smiley ball. Love it. Great video btw. If viewers are wondering the setup for Homelink is so easy it's nuts. I've only used Homelink, but was curious about myQ. After a lot of research and reviews I decided to stay with Homelink. The installation on my 2024 Model 3 LR AWD requires the front bumper to come off...fyi everyone. Buy it from Tesla and the installation fee is included...just schedule it for mobile install...at home..and you're all set. It's that easy. It can be setup for full automation. I have a datached garage and a gate. That is why Homelink is best for me. myQ being Wi-Fi dependant and glitchy is not gona work for me.
I guess it’s a personal preference whether we want myQ and not to mess around with the car’s electric tho that plug is already there unconnected; thanks for the video showing exactly where it is. We just got our LR less than a week ago just realized there’s no HomeLink (as in my MS) but only myQ is available. Well, we just ordered the little garage door opener and the community gate opener, we are good to go, $15 total 😅

There is a U shaped black hold in front and under the red tab that gets pulled back. Lift that up and over and boom. The flat head screwdriver method is a no go….for hours.
Homelink was a nice feature on my 2013 Model S. Cool to see how simple the installation is. I currently have MyQ it works very similarly to homelink. It works better with multiple Teslas because it knows the garage door position and won't try to open an already open garage.
I have MyQ as well but I refuse to pay a subscription just to link it to my Tesla. I just double velcro my garage opener behind my center screen instead. It's easy to reach & discrete, faster to operate. This homelink module is not a bad idea, but it costs $180. I'll just stick with my $2 velcro. 😂
Great video. Excellent camera work and lighting. The module has been out of stock at Tesla for awhile, so certainly a good and less expensive alternative. Install looks pretty simple. It's nice how much cleaner the frunk area is compared to under the hood of an ICE vehicle.
Maybe use other products that work just like myQ BUT have no fees. You have an app on your phone and use voice command to open or close your garage. Your phone can be in your pocket while driving and it will hear your voice to open garage
You pay for MyQ in the Tesla when you have free homelink? My family all have MyQ and share garage doors for free and can open from anywhere too without subscription. Did they start charging for that? I actually have a relay installed on my opener for my home automation system so I can open from my watch, phone, voice command, or my camera app (tiny cam pro) anywhere also (also for free).
If you have multiple teslas, it’s cheaper to do the 10 year subscription with My Q. Also, My Q knows if the garage door is open or not, Homelink will just send a signal which can be a PITA if the door is already open.
Well, the bracket is installed in the back, actually. The way you did it is more complex and doesn’t give any advantage on the signal. Anyway, thanks for the video!
Do Tesla need to activate the module? I hear some people had to ask a service tech to activate it in the past. Someone else said you may have issues programming a used one
I think it will over time. I see it on the tesla website for $350 and on ebay for around $200 as of today. Main reason I installed this as MyQ was really unreliable. It was hit or miss on opening the garage door.
I thought that when you bought the home link from Tesla the high price included them coming and installing it too? It comes delivered to you with a sealed box that only the tech is allowed to open?
Wow, i didn’t know that MyQ charges for their app currently I have the old Ryobi garage door opener. That currently starting to have issues. I been looking at different brands good to know.
MyQ is technically free using the mobile application directly however vehicle integration is what they make you subscribe for. So if you are setup with MyQ already aside from the vehicle you can open your garage door with the app. for free it's just not as seamless, I prefer the home link upgrade it's just a tight hand squeeze.

Even chatting with the service agent from Tesla I was told it's not compatible and they would not let me order it. I came across this video and decided to order it on E-bay. There are three reasons I can think why they didn't do it: 1) 48V architecture - so unless HomeLink will design a 48V version of their module then it won't be made. 2) Metal body interferes with the signal - two potential spots I could think of is behind the front vents or another potential spot is to remove the rear-view mirror assembly and piggyback on the 12V (step down) for the auto-dimming feature. 3) Lastly, speaking of the 12V, it's not enough to simply power the HomeLink module. It needs to be able to communicate back to the MCU / Infotainment system to display the option(s) of either opening/closing the garage door - this would mean more wiring harness, step-down converter. Since Cybertruck is utilizing an ethernet link in comparison to CANBUS, there would be more effort required to from both Tesla and HomeLink to make it happen; my guess HomeLink didn't want to allocate resources when they already have subscribers paying for MyQ. The best compromise between Tesla and Customers would be to include MyQ subscription as part of their Premium Connectivity, especially now they don't have to pay their streaming partner any royalties and provide a 3-5% royalty to HomeLink instead. Then again, as the top commentator on this video just mentioned: Buy $4 Velcro, then slap it on somewhere convenient.

But anyway, yes, Wi-Fi is required.
The main reason was not only the cost, but My Q sometimes worked and sometimes did not. We used the free trial and noticed when the tesla sent a ping to open the garage, it would sometimes miss. HomeLink has never failed us thus far. We also plan on keeping this car more than 3 years.

Doesn’t MyQ require a Wi-Fi compatible garage door opener?
@@MrDksmall Yes. Either Wi-Fi is built into the garage door opener or you purchase a bridge from somebody to adapt the garage door to Wi-Fi. I would think most people with a Tesla also has a smart phone and it’s doubtful that these folks would have a garage door opener that’s not Wi-Fi enabled or at least easily done. But anyway, yes, Wi-Fi is required.
@@theodorehartman5086 My opener is 33 years old 😄 But I would get a Wi-Fi box if I go down this path (or a new opener)
The main reason was not only the cost, but My Q sometimes worked and sometimes did not. We used the free trial and noticed when the tesla sent a ping to open the garage, it would sometimes miss. HomeLink has never failed us thus far. We also plan on keeping this car more than 3 years.
@@MrDksmall You can get the MyQ Hub for free. Sign up for MyQ account and then in Tesla, connect the account. You will then get an email offering a free hub and trial. All you pay is $1. I have used both MyQ and Homelink and the subscription fee of $45 a year is so worth it because it knows when your garage is open. Well worth it.
Subscribe? Ripoff! My 2018 TM3 came with HL pre-installed and requires no subscription.
Good video but... Im scratching my head on this one. All these because you canr press a button on a clicker????? Why?
thank you! and umm I've had homelink in my model 3 for 5 years now. Once you get use to homelink , you want nothing to do with a clicker lol. The automation is amazing.
@@EMtesla1 it's a cool mode but, it takes me 1 sec to press the button, and it's free. To each their own. Thanks for responding.

Huh wtf you talking about? MyQ doesn't cost me a single penny to have my Tesla automatically open and close my garage door. I can also open and close it at work if I wanted to.
Probably be easier to just open your garage door with your hands
😂
It’s $200.00 I’ll be ok with a $25.00 garage door opener.
To each their own.
$200 is crazy to open your garage door when you can do it in your phone for free…
Enjoy using your phone every time you pull up to the garage door.
@@EMtesla1 lol not like you’re not grabbing your phone every time you get in and out of the car anyway… you can literally set the garage door opening to be a voice command on iOS or a function thru IFTTT, at the least like you said just use the app. Thankfully I don’t need to open the garage every time I get home. I park in my driveway
@@Danjr704 whichever makes you happy!
Zip Tie nation…
No thanks
Super glue or Velcro.😂🤣😂🤣
Enjoy the glue !
Dude, just secure it with Zip ties.😂😂
you are more than welcome to do that... yes
Why am I watching this, I have a model X.
That is s.h.i design
that "frunk" is so stupied, designed, how thinks a slippery compartment is a good idear, Does Musk, or is he simply forget what quality is..
Main reason I won’t buy a Tesla because Elon is so cheap. No reason home-link is not preinstalled. 🙄
I know, right. Start looking closely at the wheels of Teslas manufactured after Elon removed the ultrasonic sensors from the bumpers. In my area all the newer Teslas have serious curb rash on the rims. I too learned this lesson the hard way unfortunately. I have a MX with sensors and a MY without and I pity the fool that uses auto park on the MY. I assumed (incorrectly) that TeslaVision was as least as good as the sensors….it ain’t.
A very specific reason. MY and M3 are the most affordable EVs in the world and the way they achieve that is by eliminating extra costs...
Buy a real car with Homelink for free
lol the trolls are out now!
