War is horrible (but unfortunately necessary sometimes). That must be so hard to think about for these veterans. Many have lost so many close friends. It's just horrible.
Nick Zhu in Australia we use it as the ode of remembrance, its taken from the Laurence Binyon poem: "for the fallen".

I think that's what gets me the most about losing our WW2 vets now. Every time I see one in the obituaries I can't help but cry. I grew up in an area that had a ton of vets, a ton of European refugees , I heard about the war constantly. It was still very much part of everyday life. My kids never have and probably never will meet a WW2 vet. And that just eats me up

I grew up in the 1950's and 60's with these men as our teachers and leaders and matured us early due to the cold war
He was in the battle of the bulge , landed on the D Day and survived it this man is one of a kind ! Thank you for your service sir 💯
And the Hurtgen Forest... That was a brutal battle where the Germans were dug in very well and caused a lot of chaos. I can't even imagine what he saw and went through.
@Claret Mug there was a group of soldiers who were transfers to hurtegen Forrest as they needed support and maybe he got sent to deliver something to the operations centre by the bulge and was sent to the front
He fought across Africa too. That was no joke, and a part of WW2 history that is not talked about much.
November 8th to December 16th was hurtgen, the bulge happened immediately after the ending of hurtgen into January of 1945, so it’s 100% possible to be hit in both battles.

From a Brit I can tell you that a DCM is a very high award for Bravery our highest is a Victoria Cross and this is second to that. So Ancil you are a Hero to us aswell. Thank you for your service Sir.

I had a great uncle who was at the Chosin reservoir (Korea) and it really is undeniably fascinating to hear their first hand accounts especially when they're ready to talk to someone about it. I'm happy I took the time to listen and appreciate what he had to say just like I'm glad to hear your grandpas story.
My daddy was in Battle of the Bulge, and landed on Omaha Beach. He was troubled his whole life. But always said he'd do it again. RIP. I miss you. 💛

Pretty powerful words, as we look around, in 2021.
God, i teared up when he talked about how little of his group survived. Reminds me of my grandads only shared story from ww2, one about how his combat assigned friends only ever felt guilty about not saving someone else instead of themselves. My grandads best friend of ten years died only a week after Normandy protecting an officer and a translator, and he spent his entire life telling the mans amazing stories to remember him. I cried when he told me the story because I couldnt imagine going through those things myself, or hearing them from my best friend in the world. Unfortunately my grandad was alone by the end of the war, but luckily met my grandmother and started a new life
(1:57) "I asked God...... or told God, if you bring me back home from this war I'll serve you the rest of my life." The vast majority of these great men believed in God deeply. We call this the greatest generation. Maybe it was their overwhelming belief in God that made them so great. Your videos are amazing and the work you are doing is fantastic.

Im from Brazil. My aunt married a WWII War Army Vet. His name was Walther Alisson Buchannan. He was a communication officer, and present on the D Day campaign. I feel very sorry that i didnt ask him about his wartime stories... He was a very nice gentleman. Treated me as his true family and son. Unfortunately he passed away some years ago, and i feel the need to honor him and his service. Im glad to find this space to do it. "Uncle Bucky", thank you for your service! With love, Gus.

Hopefully the channel is successful enough that the creator(s) is able to get some accounts from Australian veterans, as well as vets from other nations. Some accounts from men who fought in Burma with Field Marshal Slim or along the Kokoda Track would be interesting.

Experienced two near death injuries
Survived the Battle of the Bulge
Saved three high ranking British officers and received a medal
And was one of the only surviving members of his platoon.

My uncle just recently passed away at 98 years old and he was a WW2 veteran but he never would've agreed to be interviewed. He was a good man but was a bit difficult to deal with. I think he was mad about the direction our country and this world in general have gone and I can't say that I blame him
Each person in a war or conflict has a different experiance & each interpet it differently . Some fall apart inside , some become synical or bitter , some come out with a true realization that life is fragile & can be gone in an instant . Those understand what is truely important .

lewandlo the 150k men that landed on d day and even the one women all deserve our lives. We should really be kissing their shoes for them after all they have done for society. The sad part is people fought for freedom and didn’t even make it out of the fight to experience the freedom they won at the cost of their and many else’s lives
So incredible. I can't even imagine the tension in the air when he and the German were staring at each other knowing that one of them was about to die. He did what he had to do but I'm sure it was a difficult thing to carry all these years.

Just imagine living a lifetime and then you are interviewed about a time in your life so long ago, memories about that time start flowing back, and you feel the feelings you felt at those times, and you get sad thinking about them, you could see it in this guys face. He has surely lived a life

I cannot even begin to imagine what he saw and experienced. Seeing his reaction when thinking of those he left behind, I can only wish him peace in this world. Thank you, Sir, for providing me with all that I have.
Really reminds me of Desmond T. Doss who was awarded with the Medal of Honor. He was in fact the only conscientious objector to receive it. Great men! May God bless them all!

Josh, in my humble opinion, there are a number of ways that a media production can reward the viewer for his attention, but none more powerful than to "move", me emotionally in the manner that these stories do. I cannot even hope to truly understand what these men went through, but I am thoroughly in their debt, for their service, their sacrifice, and for their humility. Thanks for teling this story, and bravo to the team at the channel. Your mission is a noble one, in the same genre, if not in magnitude, of the men whose stories are told.
I gotta say, when you feel lucky heading to Normandy beach, because your boat got bombed and sunk, you’re a true badass. I hope these guys know how highly respected they are. They’re heroes, and always will be.

I just found this channel exists, and I wish you guys were around a few years ago. My grandfather was a German lieutenant and fought on both fronts. He was a hardened nazi till the very last day and I didn't like him much, but after 5 years of fighting got hold of great war stories. I wish he had the chance to share them in a more public way like this one. In Argentina we had complete companies of these men, from time to time he even got together with his unit friends. The stories I was told when I was a child were both amazing and terrible.
Love to see you men getting out there and preserving the true greatness of this generation and the sacrifice which was a privilege to fight for our country. Cannot let the moral fiber and character of these men die with them. Too many lessons to learn for today’s people. Thank you.

Josh what a fantastic project! It's so good that these stories are told.
I'm one of the people that were freed by the Allies, I still think so even when I'm two generations later.
My grandfather, my hero, was part of the Dutch resistance. He did a lot of dangerous work and saved a lot of Allied pilots from planes that were shot down during their fight.
I always listen to the stories he wanted to tell me. It made an incredible impact to me and made me who I am today.
I miss him every day.
I want to thank you Josh and all the heroes that tell their stories and all who don't. They all risked their lives for freedom, and I want to thank them all. All then and all the soldiers now!

You can see in his eyes how sincerely he doesn’t want to think of how he lost his friends even 75 years later. It takes a strong person to bear that and have a good life, though it sounds like he’s had help from above.
My grandpa, Donald Sprague landed on Utah beach as a mortarman. This will always and forever be the greatest generation. ❤ Thank you for getting these stories documented.

It teaches history, but most important, it teaches humanity, because it shows and brings to you those souls that once gave it all, and it's fair to say the tales shown are all emotional as nothing else on this world, such a beautiful project, and one that makes you a better person.

Truly a great man. My father in law 1st Sgt Paul D Corley from Junior WV also left the farm for the army in 1939. He also beach landed into Morocco fall 1942. North Africa, Sicily, Italy, southern invasion of France, Austria, Germany at the end. Became a teacher, principal and retired as a superintendent of schools. Passed January 2019 at 99 1/2.

A platoon consists of 25-50 soldiers and to think only 4-5 came home is baffling. Thank you so much. Very touching memoirs.
Amazing. My great uncle also landed on Utah Beach. A few days in he was also wounded by an artillery shell that sent him into a tree and burst his appendix. He later went back into the war and was shot several times and survived. He was a hero to our family.

Thanks so much Josh. I wanted to do this myself but being 17 I don't have the money to make a proper production. But this is what I wanted to do and I'm glad I'm seeing someone else do it
Very good aspiration to have at 17. Whether or not you have "production gear" get out there and shoot something. Even a cell phone today is way more capable than the camcorder I had when I was 17. Don't let access to the tools dissuade you. Even the most modest of cameras can capture a memory which if left uncaptured will be lost to time. It's never too early to get out there and build your skills. In time if you eventually can afford the good gear you'll be in a much better position to put it to good use.
You have your youth and ambition. Don't stop yourself.
I would still encourage you to get out there and meet some veterans. When I started doing this a couple years ago all I had was my phone and a notepad. The stories are always worth sharing, whether it's videos on youtube or photos on instagram and facebook. Good luck :)

Yall should interview my great grandfather he served under general Patton he doesn't talk about it much but when he does the whole family is all ears.
You probably won’t see this, my Great Great Uncle, Maurice Evangelista, served in 9th infantry division, and won silver stars and a purple heart for his service in Europe. He passed away in 2014, and I sadly never got to meet him. I have patch from the 9th here at my house, got it from a collector. I thank men like you and my uncle for giving me a better tomorrow. Thank you for telling your story, and Rest In Peace.

Hi Josh, Sorry to disagree with you - all though they are far and few between, we still have brave men and woman fighting for our freedom today, they may not the history behind them yet, and yes attitudes have changed some, but there still just as brave, you don't hear much of them because of our media.
