I have one of these ( 2010) with 154k miles and it drives superbly . The engine still pulls strongly, no smoke, still does 48mpg. Gearbox is silky smooth , awesome little cars.
These are famous for water ingress. Comes through rear light cluster seals, 3rd brake light seal, the rubber seal between the body and rear wiper arm, and the air vent seals behind the rear bumper. If the carpets are wet, it has already flooded the car and soaked through the thick sound deadening before then soaking the carpet. You need to strip out all the seats, carpet and sound deadening to let it dry out whilst you sort all the seals. Then there is the issue of the 1.0 Eco boost engine. Do not buy one unless it has a full service history only from a Ford dealer. The oil is very specific to that engine and is expensive, so non-Ford dealer dont tend to use it. As a result, the wet belt start to disintegrate, clogs up the oil strainer and the engine goes boom. Best to only buy the 1.25 engine. One other thing although not as common is when all the wipers and washers dont work. You replace the 3 fuses and still dont work. If you move the stalk and listen closely, you do hear the relays clicking. The issue is the body control module, £1,000 supplied, fitted and programmed from Ford. Dont get me wrong, they are brilliant cars, just dont blow all your budget on one. Keep at least £500 back for maintenance items.
Thanks for the video mate, you have confirmed that after 3 mechanics being unable to solve an engine overheating problem on hot days, (whilst stationary), the radiator fan has gone! I didn't think it possible as the air conditioning still kind of worked, but videos such as these are a lifeline. I have a 2012 model and its a great car. It failed on emissions at MOT last week and I thought it was a goner, but all it turned out to be was a spark plug that had disintegrated causing a rich emission. The car has done 108k and i fully intend on looking after it more with oil /filter changes and as you pointed out, 'listening to it' as you drive. I just could not believe how much Fiesta's had gone up since I bought it 9 years ago, we were facing potentially 12k for a 3 year old basic car with 35k on the clock-totally horrendous dilemma for us ordinary bods!!! Many thanks again.
Great video! I have 2010 Fiesta 1.25 on 124,000 miles! You are lucky to have the “steel” wheels! The 15” Ford alloys are weak and easily buckle on inside rim when going over pot holes! I’ve had to replace front lower ball joints and broken coil springs in addition to track rod ends BUT pleased that parts are cheap and readily available!!! As a DIY’er it’s an easy car to work on! Also did camshaft drive belt, but it needs patience and is quite fiddly! Hardest bit was unscrewing the very tight crankshaft bolt, but used very long breaker bar and a flywheel locking tool! These proper 4 cylinder engines are way better than the newer 3 cylinder 1.0 litre engines!
Bought one of these today for 500 quid...... been to the moon and back with 173k on the clock. Loads of history in it's early days but god the last 4 years it's been negleted...... Needs a good service, a new indicator stalk and a deep clean. Cambelt water pump and clutch done just over 4 years ago at 108k Rear bushes will need doing for next years MOT I'll be poly bushing it and hopefully i'll get it to 250k then scrap it for 200 quid! Banganomics!!!
Exact same thing happened to my 2014 Fiesta 1.25 Overheated cos the fan wasn’t turning on. Strange thing is the car didn’t have any warning sounds when the engine overheating symbol was on. But the warning sounds come on when petrol is low or if seatbelt isn’t it. You’d have thought they’d have it for an overheating car/ warning light. Luckily didn’t blow the engine. Everything you’ve mentioned in the video has happened on my Fiesta! Squeaky front suspension (only in the winter ) and knocking in the back
Hi, yeah my flexi pipe split on my 2016 (Eco boost) Fiesta. My garage charged around £300. for the 'cut and replace' job. Ford wanted £1,400 for the job, but as my local mechanic stated, Ford garage mechanics MUST replace the cat and put everything back to ford spec, so cannot do what my local mechanic did even though it works perfectly well. Thanks for a very good report on these cars. I do love the handling on mine. Take care.
I have the same model and age and been wondering what that flippin' squeak was when going over a speed bump. Thanks for finally being someone to tell me what it is and how to sort it out :)
Just bought a 2010 1.6 diesel zetec S . 72k miles. Has the common steering shaft problem. Needs the timing belt bits done but that'll have to wait. Got it for 2350.
I’ve got a fiesta 1.0 (125) titanium ecoboost that was bought new in 2015,it’s a great car ,comfortable ,economical , reliable and fantastic to drive. There’s also plenty of room inside, at 6 foot 2 I have lots of room and easily get a comfortable driving position. I desperately want to keep this little car for ever but it will need the wet belts done in the year or so, I’ve been looking for a specialist company in Glasgow/Scotland but so far no one wants to do the job . I know it’s an eight hour job and expensive but i thought with a lot of fiestas needing the belts done due to the age of the vehicle, that it would be easy to get them done but no such luck. I will continue to seek out a specialist and hopefully get it sorted
@@life_on_cars Agreed 👍keep the informative video’s coming especially the ones on your lovely jaguar xk , I’ve been looking for one for a while so thanks for all the valuable info, it’s giving a good insight on the practicality’s of owning a jag xk/r
You could try North West Engines in Rochdale, they specialise in 1.0 Ecoboosts. They were charging £800 or so for the new wet belt and water pump when they did mine back in May. Ford dealer wanted £1800+VAT!
Eco boost engine is reliable, as long as it's using the right spec of oil. Unfortunately they need a lot more care and maintenance than the 1.25 engine
500 pounds your miles off if its wet belts you are talking about. Ford is charging 1200 to 1600 pounds and other recommended garages who have the appropriate tools are charging around 1200 to charge the 2 off wet belts. All fiestas from 2014 onwards are wet belt type drives not dry belt for camshaft
Thank you for the information What do you think about a 2010 Ford fiesta zetec, 1.2 manual, 62k miles. I currently have a 2009 fiat 500, this is my first car (driving since March 2023 so had this since then) 1.2 manual also (87k miles) but I’ve already had to have a lot of work completed on this (gearbox, clutch, handbreak, suspension) and worried if it needs more I’m pouring money into it. So was thinking about trading it in against the Ford fiesta zetec as I believe they are more reliable
Yes I'd say the Fiesta will be much more reliable for you. Those Fiat's are cute but sadly do suffer with various issues as they get older. Good luck and thanks for watching
Thanks for the tips. Looked at a 2015 1.25 zetec today. All seemed OK apart from cambelt hasn't been done and it's on 78000 so I think I'll ask for 500 off as it's 9 year old car. Need to check for the fan issue and that 3rd key.
Awesome glad the video is helping you. The seller will think you are a Ford expert 😂. Yes at least 500 off I'd say 😉 Easy to check fan. Turn Air Con ON. Fan will start to work immediately. If it doesn't then walk away.
Is the timing belt removal the same on the 1.0 ecoboost Fiesta engine as I was quoted £1100 to replace as he said the engine had to be lifted out to do it.
I have one of these ( 2010) with 154k miles and it drives superbly . The engine still pulls strongly, no smoke, still does 48mpg. Gearbox is silky smooth , awesome little cars.
Certainly can take a beating . Well done
how do I check the mpg as I have the same spec as this car and I doesn’t show me?
I am on the same clutch and gearbox and Engine at 100,000 miles. That is such an achievement given this car is used 7 days a week day and night
@@harrylee5614On the left indicator stalk there is a button and it should swipe the menu, and you will see MPG
It's an interesting one you've got there because it has the face-lift front bumper and the pre face-lift interior. Thanks for the video mate

Well done for keeping it going and doing your own maintenance 👏
My 1.25 is still going strong at 100,000 miles and it's also a 2010 car
Bought one of these today for 500 quid...... been to the moon and back with 173k on the clock.

Very reliable cars, it should be fine. especially if new parts are fitted

Glad you didn't blow engine. We were lucky as well
1.25 engine is very stong. A coil pack failed and the engine still worked, just was more sluggish
just got myself one of these 123k miles great video!

Thanks for watching Buddy 👍
Picked up a 2011 with only 35,000 miles on the clock for £2500. So far so good
Very good and useful review. Trying to decide between this or a 2014 Polo Tsi or 2010 1.6 Polo
VW are good but I think the Fiesta has more modern styling
Just bought a 2010 1.6 diesel zetec S . 72k miles. Has the common steering shaft problem. Needs the timing belt bits done but that'll have to wait. Got it for 2350.
Much more reliable than the ecoboost motor this engine goes back to the 90s
thank you man i appreciate the infos really helps i m on a market looking for one
I have this exact car and I love it to death. Does get girls trust.
lol i havent experienced that lol but do get looks
The ford springs on the back were absolute crap had to replace 3 in the end put after market springs in them then no problem
very informative video my old fiesta failed MOT for a rear axle worn
Thanks for watching
Thank you for your video very chill and knowledgeable and well explained!
Thanks for watching Buddy

Good luck , hope you get sorted. The wet belts are still an unusual concept and puts a lot of independent garages off from doing the job.

Might be able to get the wet belt repaired by ford I think there is a recall for 1.0 engines.
Eco boost engine is reliable, as long as it's using the right spec of oil. Unfortunately they need a lot more care and maintenance than the 1.25 engine
Looking to buy a 16s so thanks for the up load it helps
No problem 👍thanks for watching
Very helpful
. Thank you
mines on 133K going somewhat strong asides from the 1st gear is a bit worn and whiney
Not seen many cars without some kind engine temp gauge.
Also almost all cars put a/c on for demisting by default.

This Zetec car is a dry belt, Buddy. It's the ecotec ones that have wet belts.
thank you!!
Thanks for watching 😊

Fords are so reliable. It's rare to get issues. Even if so, it's usually minor
Piston slap when cold ??????
no thats the tappets

No it's simpler and cheaper as he says £300
