  • Hi all and welcome back to another video and on this one im back on the sawmill and it is needing some much needed love.
I noticed i wasnt getting the right amount of tension on the T bar tensioner and then i noticed the idle belt was looking very squashed and thought it would need changing.
So stick with me as i change theses belts and see if it was needed or not.
Thank you everyone and as always leave a comment or send me an email to nick.garton@hotmail.com

Hey Evan and thank you for commenting as always.
The belts are holding up great and the mill is cutting like new again. Im surprised how much it improved the mill again.
      Thank you again 👍

I am looking forward to see how your works. Like you said I have one hanging in my shed ready to go. My concern is the flat vs conical or radial crownded pulley. I believe conveyors often use radial crownded pullies so their belt stays stable. This is going to be a great experiment and well worth it if the band holds it's tracking.
3 years and I'm sure my idler belt looked like yours. Great explanation about the angle and reason for going with cog belts.

Hey buddy, well ive milled since the belt change and it has performed like a new machine all over again.
The belts are meant to be flat for the bands, a domed belt can cause the bands to wander and go off tracking, so ill just have to see how the idler belt holds up.
I couldnt believe how squashed the idler belt was. That sure made some problems for my tensioning for sure.
I hope these cogged belts last a little longer and sustain the harsh angle and strain.
Thank you as always Jerry 👍

      @@everydaywithmenick that's excellent news.

My chinese mill does not have a tensioner for the drive belt its direct, I see the advantage of your mill design it allows for a wider mouth log cut as the angle is not as sharp as mine. I think your idler belt with cogs is a good decision. Although I'm on my same belt for 2.5 years but more narrow in log bite.

hey buddy and thank you for commenting, id be keen to see how yours is set up. If i went direct drive without the tensioner pulley then yes id lose throat capacity in the cut.
How much would you say you have milled with your mill ?
      Thank you again buddy 👍

@@everydaywithmenick I use it maybe once a month for a couple days when I get going, I've sawn lumber for house footings,2 decks, a fence,2 sheds, my sawmill shed, couple of screened in porches, # work benches out of red oak, that's pretty much it over the 2.5 years. although the belt is getting thin cause if I cut with a worn out blade it will slip if I push too fast. My mill can cut 23 inch wide but the mouth is smaller due to belt angle.

@doylepropertymaintenance5501 as long as it is there when it is needed is all that matters. I don't know how I got by for so long without one. They're just amazing and so versatile. Mine is similar to yours in capacity wise.

Great information, can't wait to see how long they last. How many hours did you have on the idler belt? Mine looks about the same with only 35 hours.

Hey Jeff 👋 i have maybe 90 hours on the mill, ill have to check that now, you have me wondering now.
Im interested myself to see how long these will last too.

Hey Mike, are they really ? i didnt realise they were cogged on the Woodland Mills sawmills.
They must use them with the same theory as i have with the angle of the belts and idler.
Urethane belts huh ? wonder why they made the switch from rubber ?
Thank you for your input buddy 💪
