The actress did a phenomal job in this film! All of her dialogues, expressions and enunciations are very natural and perfect. I couldn't say the same about the guy (husband). I am not sure if it was the script or not but he sounded like a robot. His sentences and expressions sounds like they are always ending abruptly. Therefore, it made him seem like he was just reading a script.
I find this an issue in alot of Hmong Meeka films now day as the way they speak is not natural. Hmong people like to use words such as "os, los, lawm, nas, lov, etc" as transitions within their sentence structures or endings. It seems like alot of directors are trying to get rid of those to make the Hmong language sound modern. But it ends up making them sound like they are heavily scripted.
I'm a fan of your guys work but I think this is where there could be room for improvements. And this goes for all other directors as well.
UGO this is great constructive feedback!
He's never spoken Hmong in his life until he did filming so thank you for the constructive feedback!
Wow, one of the better Hmong American short stories I could watch without cringing! So good!
Spoiler’s Alert!
Here’s my take for the end.
As we all know, horror movie can be tricky and twisted.
It showed that the shaman helped bring Ying back to the world. But why did she appeared dead at the end?
It goes to show that shaman is not the answer to everything. It’s a temporary solution, the rest is up to the individual. As for the Ying’s husband, once an abuser will always be an abuser. Ying’s love for her ghost husband still lingers. Doesn’t matter life or death, her ghost husband loves her too much and will do anything for her. So at the end, he wins.
Looks like at the end, her husband got a phone call about Ying’s death that’s why it appears that Ying has successfully join the dead husband on the other side. She’s visiting her husband for one last time and said her goodbye.
Glad you talk very similarly to me. 😄
Wow finally a Hmong short film that I can say y’all did a great job. This one made me cry 😭
Great movie, my family and I thank you for the film. 🎥
Awesome job ghost actor and actress! Too bad she didn't stay! Its very sad but some real stories can relate when the other partner doesn't love you! So I am glad they made this film! Treat your partner with respect and love until the end!
I had an experience in my dream about a long lost man had said I was his soul mate and for me to forget about my pregnance leave everything including husband behind to be with him. Somehow I managed to excused myself from him and a older man gave me money belts tied around my waist to go back home, he sent me off telling me to hold on to the money or I wont get back home. (sorry for the bad grammer) Thank god I was able to wake in the morning
Peb hmoob ua movies tau zoo heev li... I love hmong
That doll is hella scaryer then the guy 😂😂
Best hmong American horror for me, it's got a good meaning and touching storyline. Good job
I guess if i was in her abusive marriage life situation yeah I would’ve chosen my past love life, too. Zoo saib kawg!
This is one of the best short film out there. Great acting!!! Based on true events
Omg halloween is just around the corner and oof im watching this at night time ! This is the best !
Came across this and decided to watch it. Man i do not regret watching it at all. This is such a good short film. I love it. ❤❤❤❤
I think, that I understand the ending to this short film. So, as we can all tell the husband does not love our Female lead Ying and only needs her to fulfill his sexually desire. In the movies he does not openly admit to his wrong doing, in fact it is the elder that asks for the Shaman help and guidance. So let say that the Shaman does a great a job and does bring Ying spirit back to the real world. It doesn't change the fact that her Husband doesn't love her, which was the original reason why her old lover came back for her in the first place. And as we know in our superstition, once a spiritual door is open it always stays open and what happens when a Shaman does Jingle Bell, it is so that they attempt to block the pathway of the spirit from returning to the get the object of their desire by using a animal spirit, the animal killed for the ceremony, as a guardian to that open door. In hope that the spirit will give up coming to the door, after many months of entrance denial. Anyhow, lets fast forward, one year later the Animal spirit is no longer guarding that door, and Ying is still lonely and sad, her husband is still abusing her. Who know abuser don't change. And So forth, her ex-lover is able to find her again and thus he takes her spirit away, thus resulting in her death. So here what I think happen, the husband does not love Ying and could careless about her whereabouts, so he goes to bed alone and sleeps soundly. Ying on the other hand is out traveling, most likely driving her car when she ends up in collision, resulting in her death, thus the broken neck when she appears at the end. Then her husband is woken up in the middle of the night to a phone call to inform him, that his wife is dead, only to see her spirit with her lover, wearing matching hmong outfits signifying that he was the one whom came back for her and took her away.
Love your insights! You provide the most validated explanation to those that are confused.
Shaman doesn’t cure everything if the person doesn’t have the will to live anymore. They can try to bring the person back but it’s only a temporary solution.
Reading the first couple of chapters of memories of a haunted Hmong girl reminded me of this video!
Kayeng did a awesome job. And her song in this movie is touching as well
Made me cry! So sad! If it were me, I would go back to be with my soul mate too! Keep up the good work you guys!
Great job actors along with a awesome melancholy story!
Awesome job guys. Watching this gave me the chills because I experienced something very similar to this story line.
Wow! I was very impress with this film. Great job portraying "Yaj Ceeb" and "Yeeb Ceeb", showing glimpses of what the shaman does on the journey, what we do in yaj ceeb during the ceremony and how it relates to events in the spiritual world. It was very well demonstrated and the story line was beautiful.
Bloody hella good...mate..this is one of the best short film I've seen in a long time. Wish it was longer and keep up the great work.
This was so good, tears and scared f out of me and errthang.

So good, Mk and Team! I couldn't help but cry as she was crying Kayeng's acting, editing and ending was so so good!
Well done! This is a great short clip! All the cast and crew did such an awesome job!
Here’s my take on the ending.. the ghost boyfriend was successful in his mission to “rov qab los tos tau” his soulmate.
Furthermore, I would say that the 2 miscarriages played an important role in the storyline. There’s a hidden message behind it. The way to open her heartstring is through the miscarriages because her loneliness will intensified along with verbal and sexual abuse coming from her husband. Although the shamans do their thing to bring back her soul, the ghost boyfriend knew he could easily make more attempts. After all, she willingly left with him, so he knew that should shaman not intervene, his first attempt would’ve been successful. The deep depression from the loss of her two unborn children was just the key that opened her heart for the spirit.
Kaab Npauj Npaim I also feel like her miscarriages were karma for committing suicide in the past life.
I love how they are hmong mekas but their Hmong is pretty fluent unlike other hmong mekas films their Hmong is so bad I can even watch it but this one I was able to watch the whole thing without feeling cringe! I Love It! We Need more films like this!!!!

Cant believe I just watched this. I dont do horror films but this was a very sad story.
I love it so much!!! Keep up the awesome work!!!
Great job!!! Basic on True events
Nicely done.
Spoiler alert.
As for the ending, this is what I believe happened. When the Shaman Practitioner exchanged the doll for the wife, the lost soul (boyfriend) never did gave back the real wife (her soul) to the Shaman, and you can see the boyfriend glaring as the Shaman's walking away from him. It can be a very difficult ritual to do in their situation as what the Shaman Practitioner said before performing the Shaman dance. The other world can be very tricky so the ritual will not always be success.
As for the 2 ghosts at the end, I'm just as confused like everyone else.
Watching this at 4am, was not a good idea. Great love story!
this film is sad 🥺😭 but I wish the film was a lot longer overall , I enjoy this film !!
