- Sun & Moon is a captivating Hmong short film inspired by the traditional folklore of 'Nkauj Hnub Nraug Hli,' narrating the origin tale of the sun and moon. It unfolds as a timeless Romeo and Juliet narrative set in the dawn of creation, where light and darkness are yet to exist.
We want to thank everyone for your patience and unwavering support. This achievement is a testament to the incredible dedication of our talented cast and crew.
Our vision for this project has always been to illuminate the rich tapestry of Hmong folklore and stories. As independent filmmakers, we've encountered limitations but strived to maximize my resources and knowledge to bring this film to life. From pre-production to post-production, the journey has been challenging, demanding dedication and a steadfast vision every step of the way. Ultimately, we're grateful to have produced this film, contributing to our collective stories and enriching our shared history.

when the solar eclipse was shown you should have both of them running towards each other and embracing to show their short precious time together because that's only when they can meet. It was just a scenario that came to my mind. Nonetheless, great job!
Thanks for the suggestion! Initially, we planned to depict their embrace in the eclipse's darkness. However, after some edits, we opted to let the audience imagine it, as the meaning is already clear.
@@FarVisionEntertainment it is better to see them both with the solar eclipse as its colliding but I also understand your intent.
I love that they used majority Green dialect characters or speakers. I really hope that Hmong ntsaub continue to express & feature more green dialects in Hmong films.

Beautifully written and thank you for your generosity in sharing this wonderful short film right in time for the solar eclipse. Great cast and acting. Love the green dilect. More hmong films need to include the moob leeg and moob ntsuab dilect to reflect our community as a whole. Thank you for doing that Ger. Just made me realize how sad a solar eclipse can be figuratively 😭.

Instead of writing Lee for his name and Nou for her name, maybe put the meaning of their names: "Sun" and "Moon." So it will explain the title of this story to non hmong ppl. Over all, its a wonderful short film! I truly enjoyed this! ❤

My eyes got teary from watching this. I think it's a sign for me. It's funny because last month I kept singing a verse from Maa Vue's song saying, "kheev lam lub hli puag tau lub hnub" and today is the eclipse. And then I came across this video.
This was amazingly beautiful and I'm so proud this is part of my culture.

Great job to everyone! This was very pretty, visually. A tale as old as time of forbidden love and the consequences of it. So many folklores can be so unfair and cruel. Makes me think about how younger generations, we don’t tolerate this unfairness 😅

as someone whose gone to art school for film / tv, worked in advertising and in hollywood. keep making stuff like this. but also submit these films to film festivals. there are literally thousands of film festivals around the world every year. some have specific genres but if you send your films they can get awards and recognition from other audiences and other film makers. the biggest 2 film festivals happen maybe weeks apart in sundance utah. the sundance film fest and slam dance are pretty big festivals. but most cities have a film festival. there might be a fee for submitting your film, some will waive the fee others won’t.
otherwise, feel free to keep sharing on youtube lol. it all just depends on what you wanna do. some film tests may even work to set up a distribution deal.
This film was submitted to film festivals around the states as soon as it was released in 2021. It went through Vimeo pay streaming and waited 1 year after film festivals to get here. It was submitted through FilmFreeWay to Sundance and some other Asian fest in LA. Unfortunately, it didn't make any big film festivals but had placed awards at other smaller ones. Sometimes, the more well-known film fests are selective and only pick those that benefit them. Our Hmong stories are so new and unknown to the West that they are often misunderstood and unpopular, similar to how world cinema is to Hollywood.
I absolutely love it. I re-watch 4 times.

Holy sh*t is an understatement. Acting was superb. Cinematography was on magnificent. Directing was on point!! Loved the storytelling of this classic tale as well. Speaking in green gave it such an intense touch. This is by far one of the best films in a while from a Hmong creator. ❤

I named my daughter after the Moon and my son after the Sun. So if I should ever lose my way, they will be by my side night or day. No matter how far we my be apart from one another, just remember to look up.

Wow, this short story is surprisingly good. I usually get bored with the long Hmong talking, which makes it difficult to understand, but this one is well planned, great narrative, and a great actor/actress!
